I had to be peeled off of it. First digging my fingernails out of wood. That was years ago. It was an open car then.

I'm pretty sure this lift has never been an open car, but that would be kinda cool

My mom and I did this a couple years ago but we're both afraid of heights so we got drunk at the Moonshine store next door first. 10/10 would get drunk and do it again.

As a former Theme Parker ride ops supervisor, I will tell you that every caption in this video is spot on. It is true that you are MORE likely to die to and from an amusement park then dying at one. (For anyone that had any unfortunate friends or family pass at a theme park, my condolences to you). I will tell you that when you are surrounded by WELL trained staff like in this video and follow every step of instructions you will be perfectly fine. One note you may notice is, ONLY ride staff are trained on evacing a ride, mechanics are NOT allowed to. That why you see that man in the blue shirt standing there making sure every rider gets off. This we a job very well done, if they was my crew I would treat them to lunch.

Nothing beats the original (now defunct) version at Coney Island, it used REAL chutes and not a controlled descent such as this. The parachutes were the only thing slowing your free fall, and you were free falling at the top for a split second as it chute finally opened.

I got a bad headache from Raptor a few years ago and haven’t rode it since lol. I know the ride has its fans, and I appreciate the historical importance, but it’s just so uncomfortable and the wait times are insane

I rode Raptor back in 1994 shortly after it opened, it was very smooth then, most coasters will show their age after so many years and they will get a little rough.

Got stuck first time riding this. Other than having a startle thinking something was seriously wrong because the ride op RAN past us, it wasn't too bad. Couldn't see my kid because she was behind me (stupid covid), so everyone got to hear loud commentary of other rides in the park lol

I wonder what they would do to evacuate a passenger who can’t climb down the stairs - e.g. a wheelchair passenger?

there is a platform that can ride up the center rail below the lift hill, it looks big enough to hold a wheelchair.

Back in 1972-1973 I was 6-7 years old and this was the first activity that my mom and dad let me do "all alone". We would vacation in Gatlinburg most years and always stayed at the Ramada Inn just across the Parkway from the Skylift. I can still remember the sound that the rubber coated cable made when it went between the rollers at each tower. I think one of the things that makes this palce so special is that it is almost "frozen" in time. New stores and activities but for the most part it is the same after 45-50 years.

either a ride sensor thought 2 trains were in a block zone and the ride e-stopped or the ride ops were stacking the trains too much and the ride e-stopped. a roller coaster can't just stop anywhere on the track. it can only stop where there is a brake run on the track. Raptor has a "floor" and stairs where the mid course brake run is so they can evacuate riders if needed.

Am I the only one who finds it annoying when a ride stops on a lift hill or a break run and the news acts like they could have died. Also, isn't it annoying when this happens and the news thinks the restraints are going to come open just because it stopped.
