Hi there, i was thinking of becoming a gp. Do you think its better to work for a company as a gp or create your own clinic / business?

I haven't got a single positive thing to say about my own GPs and surgery. If you heard my story you'd be disgusted...one would hope. For better service, I wish there'd be more GP surgeries but taking on less registered patients. I've been going to the same place for almost 20 years and every day I speak to someone (even the unkind, rude receptionists) it's like they have amnesia and are meeting me for the very first time. I cannot tell you how exhausting it is to keep repeating complicated health issues and trying to go through detailed, chronological health history over and over and over and over again. All in five minutes. With a total stranger. Again. Something has to change. Both for overworked doctors caught in an increasingly appalling system rife with communication problems and for patients who just want to be HEARD-- and helped.

Came here to see, how GPs work in the UK. I assume, that the pandemic altered your daily work significantly, otherwise I had the impression, that GPs don't really have that much real contact to patients^^

I read somewhere that a typical GP can have 1700 to 2000 patients on there books. If you were in a situation where only had 400 patients on your books and most patients were 18 to 55 years old, presumably you would have plenty of free time on your hands . In that hypothetical situation, what would you do with your free time in terms of additional support to your 400 patients. (such as organising diet plans, reviewing genetics, mental health reviews, monitoring vitamin levels or anything else to optimise the health of the patient ? ( i recently came across the story of the ancient Chinese doctor that was only paid when his patients were healthy; with the incentive of optimising patient health I wondered what the doctor was doing to ensure his patients kept as healthy as possible.). All the best !

The current shortage of gp doctors needs to be urgently addressed. As these doctors ( who today are really physicians ) must stay up to date with all evolving medical advancements. The specialist doctor’s job is much easier. To alleviate any gp doctor shortage, just increase their stipend by 25 percent & decrease the bloated stipend of the specialist doctor by the same measure. QED

Hi Dr Muini, I hope you are doing well! Would it be possible for you to make a video on the scope of minor surgery as a special interest for GPs? Also, could you make another video discussing the prospects for UK GPs (including those with a special interest) to work abroad in countries such as Canada and Australia? Thank you! :)
