Great video bro. I have cinder block walls in garage and want to hang more mounts for tools. All the current mount holes are placed to align with the grout lines which I thought was stupid and after seeing your video it confirms where I believed the holes should be drilled. I would assume that drilling into the cement lines will just weaken the cinder blocks surrounding those drill points. Thanks again!!!

Very informative. Some of my house has plaster walls, newer walls are sheetrock. Where I know it's plaster I've been using command hooks. I want to redo the closet so needed something for heavy weight.

@toolsandrepairs 2 күн бұрын
Yeah for heavy weight like a closet bar or shelves, you'll definitely need to find the studs. Toggle bolts can help support here and there but ideally at least some screws should be in solid wood.

Do you need to drill all the way to the drywall or just the fiberglass? Thanks for this great video
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs 4 күн бұрын
Your situation may differ, but in my case, there was plywood on the other side of the fiberglass that did not allow room for the plastic anchors but allowed for screws to be driven right into it for even better support. If you have a space behind the fiberglass, you can use the included anchors which expand on the other side of the fiberglass. If there is drywall, you need to find a stud behind the drywall or use the anchors because drywall alone will not be sturdy.

Got the magnetic stud finder but the entire wall is magnetic, what does this mean?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs 7 күн бұрын
It could be plaster over metal lath, ducts or some kind of metal sheathing protecting something. Look for outlets which are usually connected to a stud, try knocking on the wall to find the stud, or use some other way to find a stud. If you think you find a stud, and drill and hit metal, stop drilling.

@Will-cd1zn 10 күн бұрын
In a 120v white is neutral. In 240v double pole. Each side is the breaker is 120v each for a combined 240v. In this case white and black are hot. There is 10-3 wire. In that case there would be 2 hot wires, 1 neutral and 1 ground.

Great video! This was the information I was looking for cause I have a leak inside the manual feed to my furnace. The water keeps filling up in the furnace and water is coming out a radiator closest to the furnace in the dining room while the furnace is running when the water heats up and the site glass is full. I'm constantly draining water and water pressure has been low and the water has been real hot when coming out. I'm going to attempt to fix this myself and also clean the site glass. I did a hot water valve for a faucet in my bathroom before that had a washer issue so I'm familiar with the washer situation. I have a few tools to purchase. This is an A+++ from start to finsh! Thank You! 🙏

These tools are not as cracked up as they are advertised. I am not against them they are useful for locating opens. The problem with them, for locating breakers, is they induce signals into other wires running parallel near the circuit being tested. Which is the primary reason the signal came to different breakers from the load signal. One of the best tools to use to locate a circuit is a amperage oscillator to find a circuit breaker. This tool varies the amperage within a couple of amps up and down semi rapidly and you put a amp meter around the circuit breaker wire to find the exact breaker the oscillator is attached to the circuit. Its much more reliable than a inductive signal generator to pin point which breaker your looking for.
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs 16 күн бұрын
I never heard of that method, so thanks for the suggestion. I think that would require taking the breaker box cover off and testing individual hot wires going to the breakers then right? Otherwise, these are good for the average homeowner to quickly find a circuit. So far, I have had success finding circuits with this one and a Klein circuit finder.

I just hired someone to hang pictures because I didn’t want to do it. I asked him about using the expanding plastic tool because that’s what I always did. He drilled nails straight through without using the plastic pieces. I knew he was doing that wrong. I should have done the work myself. Not sure over time what is got to happen with the nails. I did make him keep the blue tape on the wall while drilling. And the nails were long. My picture doesn’t weigh more than 12lbs. Should I remove the nails and start over with plastic expanders?

If the nails are firmly in the wall, are not loose, and will not easily move or come out when you tug down on them, then I'd say they should be fine for light objects.

Nice video. I have a Klein digital plug into outlet tester. Very similar to this one, though it shows the actual response time of the GFCI test (this one looks to be just pass or fail.) Though, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what different response times might be an indication of. They also have a circuit finder, but their outlet tester / signal generator isn't the digital tester. So this one would have an advantage there.} Worth having the right tools when you need them!

If you have really soft material to drive into, you can try the 3/16" tapcons. The next size up would be the 1/4" which would need a 3/16" bit.

If there are no bleeder valves like these, you may have steam radiators, not hot water, so this method would not help if those aren't heating.

Just hung a Samsung Frame TV, 43 inches and 19 pounds. I used 4 x 1/4 in. Fliptoggle toggle bolts. My wall is also 1 inch not 1/2 inch. Seems to be on there very sturdy. Would you say I should be perfectly fine since the TV is only 19 pounds?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs Ай бұрын
Having 1 inch thick or double 1/2" drywall certainly contributes to being a stronger wall. The anchor is only as strong as the wall, so as long as you think the wall is sturdy and the anchor installed properly, I would say a 19 pound TV would be fine with even just one flip toggle bolt, which can hold over 50 lbs; with 4 it should be fine.

i look at these once every few years when i have to hang something on the wall and this is by FAR the best video on hanging stuff like TV's. Great job! Only thing that could have put the cherry on top would have been to provide the measurements in metric (rough measurements) as well. I ended up using 6mm x 50mm anchor bolts (equivalent of 1/4 inch tapcon bolts. An inch and a quarter is a little over 30mm so 50mm worked fine. Way easier using these than plugs and bolts because i just drilled the first hole, bolted it to the wall, made it level and drilled the other bolt holes. Had to clean out the holes and bolt everything in but it works just fine! Just as you showed it would! Thanks!

4 mm is larger, not smaller, than a 5/32nd which is 3.9 mm according to your chart. So it doesn't make sense that a 4 mm drill bit is going to be better than a 5/32nd drill bit and allow the tapcon screw to grab more concrete.

Thank you for the excellent video! How do you remove these later?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs Ай бұрын
Thank you, it depends on the anchor for removal. The plastic ones can be pried out pulled out with pliers; the toggle bolts can be removed like any bolt but the toggles will fall behind the wall. The large 1/2" flip toggles will also fall behind the wall and the plastic flange will have to be cut with a utility knife or patched over. Unfortunately many of these anchors will leave a large hole which you can patch.

@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs Ай бұрын
Most TV mounting kits come with masonry anchors, which you would drill 3/8", then put the plastic anchor in, then the bolt through the holes of the TV mount, then drive the bolts into the anchor. The screws shown in this video are concrete screws which you would drill 3/16" holes in the brick then carefully drive the screws holding the mount up into the brick without over-tightening.

Most modern Christmas lights are wired in parallel which means the lights will still work when there is one light out. What about when one half of the string is lit and the other half is out?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs Ай бұрын
That's true for each strand of most modern lights, lights are often more than one circuit so when one has an issue then that whole circuit could be out while the rest of the lights may stay on. Even if the bulbs are parallel, the whole strand may be out due to a blown fuse, broken wire, or connection issue.
