I'm not really sure. Perhaps the lack of a beach. It is a lovely little town. Personally, I hope it doesn't grow but interest in property seems to be gaining momentum.

Great videos! Thank you! Had to pause the video at 5:13 to read the WalkerVille Cemetery Burials list! Tragic and tragedy! 1 day the shortest (and briefest) to 78 years and all from the same family DEWAR! It’s nice just having background music with no voice over! Thank you again!

Thank you. I find old cemeteries fascinating for a genuine insight into the past. So many individual stories in every cemetery. Yes, music goes well with a bit of informative text plus it means I don't have to inflict viewers with a boring narrative. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Nice, I have a photo of the old green brick theatre somewhere. I also recall the old RSL on Thomson Rd, not sure if any photos exist of that. Also got a short video from the pier 2006 which shows the Isle of Wight before fire

Yes, Cowes townscape is changing rapidly. Sad to see the Isle of Wight go and the monstrous replacement planned. I never thought of photographing it. The RSL looks good. I didn't know the theatre. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

I really enjoyed your really interesting video, thanks!! We visited Port Albert earlier this year and loved it! I tried to find any remnants of the Victorian Railways line that ran to Port Albert, also the narrow gauge railway that went from Port Albert station out to the east, but failed miserably! The line into Port Albert is easy to identify, but I couldn't find any remnants of the actual station. I hope to return for longer, one day!

Thanks for that. I didn't think to include anything about the railway. Looks to have been on the east side of Lawrence Street, opposite Gibson Street.

The bridge at Noojee (time 01.16) says Moe Railway, but is in fact the Noojee branch line, it went nowhere near Moe. Likewise, later on, the Crossover bridge is on the Noojee branch line also. Nice work.

You missed McHaffies Lagoon which has a critical history, Close to the McHaffie homestead, only reliable fresh water on the island and the only recorded contact with aboriginals who were moved off the site and the entire island thereafter cleared by fire.

Thanks for that. Apologies, I did not realise the full significance at the time. I will try to mention it in a new WordPress site I am working on in which includes 'News, Updates and Extras', supplementary to the KZbin videos. I see part of it is in the Phillip Island Nature Park. Can you tell me if it is possible to access the lagoon from the beach for a photo? Are there any restrictions?

Excellent story thank you I crayfished along the front of phillip Island from the Nobbies to Cape Patterson in the 80's Then purchased a well boat and fished from Liptrap to the Prom for about 4 years I loved working the Ansers and other bits and secret pieces in the days before gps I went for a look at Skull Rock and thought that I could see where I had been told that it had been used for cannon practice in the days of sail and that people had gone ashore and found cannon balls It is a spooky place so I never went back ! I worked as an abalone sheller in the 70's for about 4 years and never heard of anyone from Victoria diving out there even though I think it is just inside 39 /12 ie Victorian waters Cheers mate well done

Australia was settled as a colonial outpost in order to ship goods back to England, based on convict labour and harsh discipline. I don't think the past should be romanticized as some kind of paradise. It was anything but.
@lukesgippslandhistory4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your feedback. Apart from the music, in which way do you think the video was romanticised? They were certainly hard and exploitative times and it is important that we understand how events of the past evolved into what we have and see today. Your further input may help with the production of similar slideshows in the future.

I have so many memories of The Port and the Old Port having spent my childhood 1950’s holidays there in the Ship Inn. 11:53 Depicts Captain Arthur Waite winning the first ever Australian Grand Prix held at Cowes in 1928. _"Captain Waite wipes the dust from his goggles as he steers his Austin 7 into the final right angle bend. The car bumps and jumps down the rutted gravel main street of Phillip Island. After one hour, 46 minutes and 40 seconds of racing, Waite took the chequered flag to become the first ever winner of the Australian Grand Prix -- then known as the '100 Miles Road Race'._ [From South Gippsland Sentinel Times 26/2/2008].
