Was asking myself question as i was re-watching Mark Lewis's speedwalking episode. Thanks for answering and good luck on the journey! Though it makes sense, its so counterintuitive to me that someone can claim they walk faster than they can run. 😮. Also, have you ever done a VO2Max test in a lab while you were walking professionally and did you have to do so regularly in a lab? I wonder how a race walkers numbers would compare against a pro cyclist or runner. Does this metric even matter as much for speed walkers?

He didn't run at his maximum he did a 1400m at 2'29/km, and his 1500m PR is 3'38 so a 2'25/km pace, he was clearly don't running fuuly.

Because racewalking is a real sport, and it is actually 100 times harder than running
@DatHondaBoi2238 ай бұрын
@@t-settings6654thing is he’s still running though, to be speedwalking, one foot has to be on the ground at all times. If you slow the video you can see constantly he has both feet off the ground between steps

his technique and speed is incredible. he is lanky and that helps. he lacks power game above 20 km but under 10km he is the undisputed king.

Some very noticeable lifting in the slo mo finish. Would need a judge's angle and view to tell you if I would have carded him during the race.

it is naked eye test at normal speed that feet should appear to touch the ground. not slow motion. the rule is you can jump once the body has passed the straight leg. when the body passes the leg on the ground must be straight as it passes through you can kick to land on the heels( like skiing). otherwise he wont get that speed! he is a great technician. There is another 5km run where he was given 2 warnings but he gets the record. he is the fastest under 10 km ever. He loses stamina after 20 km. others come to the fore all the way to 50km. olympics they removed 50km, which is not good as that was a great event! 50km is great because you wont have everybody competing. you need incredible stamina and speed. so 20km folks fall apart! it is now 35 km and 20 km runners are dominating that field.

So does running help one's walking?
@TomBosworthTV3 жыл бұрын
Its mainly good for easy miles where I don't have to focus on my technique and can just get some strong aerobic work done, when perhaps I'm fatigued from walking.

Nice pad! I'm so happy you're in a nice place for your training Tom! I've learned to ride a 26-in unicycle since September. So far I can do 5 miles continuous, and up to 12 miles in a workout. For intervals the other day, I did 5 miles incorporating 5x 150 yd hill w/ 440 yd recoveries. But these hills were a little different! So down the hill controlling momentum with the pedals, then make a side hill U-turn towards the bottom, and as soon as making the turn switch to vigorously pedaling up the hill! That's a tough one I'll tell you😂 After hills I did 22 x 240 yards straightaways...continuous with a hairpin turn at each end. Just a little different from race walking! Cheers!
