Thank you for explaining the difference between sand types. Im having trouble finding plastering sand at my local hardware store. Is there a special name or brand that you use. Thanks Philadelphia PA USA

You might be better looking for stucco sand or bagged stucco our plastering sand comes of the lough here it isn't as fine as building and has some grit in it but not as gritty as paving sand hope this helps

@smithy4297 hi buddy yea for me I had a bad elbow from plastering and boxing not sure which ligament it was, but if I use a normal hawk floating a week my elbow woukd be dead don't find it hard on my shoulder at all or that I have noticed is it something you woukd say will ease or get worse?

Decorator from Belfast here. Enjoy your videos. This is basically the method I use. 2 things that I find make the job easier is using a paint shuttle with a roller on a pole for applying the water and a filling knife rather than a scraper. The thinner, more flexible blade is much quicker.

Just a thought?? ... Are those joists resting directly on top of concrete composite blocks? ... It looks like they are? ... You do know that when Wood makes long-term contact with concrete of any kind You get like a Cancer in the wood and ROT! sets in ... If it's the case you'll need to put a DPC membrane between the two surfaces .. Coming on a treat now! 🤠
@macplastering
@macplastering 20 күн бұрын
@petemoring67 shouldn't be as there is vents at the roof for air flow and these are all inside walls outside walls have treated timber on the blocks again beside the vents. But I have worked in loads of houses and only ever seem rot like you say on a subfloor or near an outside wall that has got damp

As a civil engineer for 20 years this unit is good. Great for indoors work avoiding carbon monoxide. I recall send 2 labourers ( both guys in th late 50s) to collect a concrete saw to install a RSJ. At main showroom VW dealership. Expecting them to collect a hired cordles electric, no hired a petrol saw. Guy collapsed from monoxide so ambulanced away t, and not a good impression on safety. Guy was fine. Week off work forthis self ep ly after, hire centre called with a cordless saw. I was left to deal a HSE! Indoors incident! Indoors? use electric saws for indoor jobs.

Yes these are perfect for inside jobs I for one hate the smell of the fumes and not good for you at all... this is not the most powerful one but it still has a good impact if you don't try got to deep to fast and just lay an inch or 2 at a time

Hi mate, I'm newbie refurbishing my house which is stripped back to brick. Do I need to sand and cement render it before I can do the electrics 1st fix? From the online reading I've done I think the correct steps would be to sand and cement the walls, then PVA it, then skim plaster. Wanted to make sure I am doing the right steps before I do electrics 1st fix. Thanks for your input!

Good luck lad, you not doing any harm either to letting the roof and blockwork cure in a little. Once the heating goes on that roof will shrink back 10-15mm. With fresh block work always left horrible cracks. I did my build at your speed and had very few cracks, from screed lay to the underfloor heating going on was 3-4 months made a world of difference after too 280m2 of tiles laid an no boasting of tile anywhere. So patience paid off. Your are going grand, enjoy the the tracking, regret now not adding more 5amp wall switches for plugged lower room lights, and allows the sparks to use CAT 5e over CAT 6 as my Ariel single is crap thanks to all the traffic from cross cabling!

great advise thank you so much my friend yes i do agree with a slow build having less cracking / settling issues for sure new builds now are up in no time but this one has had good time in-between the big stages founds then slabs had big space between them then the build and roof was a slow mover to and now it has been sitting for months settling and drying in all weather hahah but the windows sealing it up will be a big help to keeping it nice and dry but looking like me tracking it will be after they are in so might need to hook a vacuum up keep dust down

@macplastering that is a great laser , haven't heard of them but it looks good . if u havent use a laser that much watch a decent tutorial on it. there loads of little tricks ppl show u . for instance i usually make a block or a notched block eg 10mm & mark a thin pencil line then level the timber its more accurate also get 2 end points level and then striaght edge it across . you definitely have to do a follow up video on it

@macplastering haha yeah it's good to get them things out the way ,sounds like you know enough about them, mind you plasterers don't seem to use them as much as other trades. a length of timber with a mark on for floors or ceilings, set ur laser up set the timber on the floor & put a mark then use mark to reference highest point . same for screed just deduct thickness of the screed or FFL & use the rod during leveling .

I really truly understand that now but also the more I do in general the more money I will save again most the jobs I have done on the roof I paid someone else to do. Don't get me wrong a window guy will fit the windows a spark and plumber will do the electrics and plumbing a joiner will fit the doors . I can do so much then.
