Hi buddy very true and every plasterer would have had their own corbels and roses ect love working in an old street where they are are different so you could tell who was plastering in where haha I do a agree it is some what dyeing some people don't like it most builders don't want it as it will cost more but i could see it making a come back as loads of things do come back into style ... I for sure will have some in our new build :) Thanks for watching and commenting mate

Hi there. HELP!! I remodelled a wall to brick up a doorway and create double doors and some areas needing rendering are nearly 50mm deep and 0.5m in size. From my research more than 25mm render in two layers is not recommended. How do I tackle that? I'd really appreciate any advice and thanks for your AMAZING videos. 👍💥

@macplastering
@macplastering 8 күн бұрын
so if using 12mm stones you would need at least 5 mm coat to receive them on rule of thumb what ever the thickness of stone you would need half that in a coat to make sure they stick, so the rule / batton will be flush to the reveal but on the side getting stoned will be set out to receive the dash I do think this one was a little more than usual as trying to patch in to make it look nice and flush

Thankyuoooo, from a grateful 65yr old lady, if I can do it anyone can, fantastic tip. Edit: My dried on tile adhesive was 20yrs old. I wet it but it didn't work straight away, but multiple wetting and waiting, and it worked, so sometime you have to be patient. No more chunks gouged out of the plaster where I spent hours chipping away at it. what I loved was the tiny bits left actually wiped off! considering this was old, very dried on tile adhesive. mmm I wonder if you soaked tiles that had old adhesive on, it would work, as years ago had to re-apply a tile that had fallen off and spent a good while chipping the adhesive off ( didn't have any spare, tile discontinued and it was not flush with the others, no wasn't me) This is a great tip for the older enthusiastic DIYer. 😊

Hi I recently had my house rendered inside it’s a 100+ year old brick house. The man that did it is an old school Irish renderer. He did a 1 to 1 scud coat, then a 4 to 1 coat with sbr and waterproofer and final was 5 to 1 without additives. The problem is people are now telling me I’m going to have problems with damp and cracking in my house because he should have used lime render is this correct?
@macplastering
@macplastering 16 күн бұрын
I watched an old video i mean really old of a guy doing one of these houses up and they where still damp back then. to me lime needs to dry from the inside out meaning you need to heat it to dry it so any damp will get in and its up to you to heat and dry it going by a survey on a large house we done ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIfUi4KjbdWfq6M ) the 3 guys said it should be done inside and outside with lime would cost a massive amount they said if doing lime no point just doing one need to do both inside walls and outside , they claim the idea is you dry it from inside out .... so with cement render it is supposed to stop water coming in but some claim i gets in as a gas then turn to a liquid agin, but then why cant we just dry that the same way as lime? from the inside out sure if it can get in as gas wont it dry back the same way ? my question to you in how has the wall been? again he has used different mixes to my own .. be great to hear your findings? so you just put sand and cement on no skim coat?
@londonengland7096
@londonengland7096 16 күн бұрын
@@macplastering thanks for the reply mate. After he done the scud, 1st and 2nd coat he then skimmed everting with multi finish and 2 or 3 coats paint. It’s been approximately 15 months since he completed work and no issues to report at the moment. Most of the walls he rendered then plastered I have a radiator on them which should help with drying. I did originally ask him to just dot and dab all walls and he told me it’s a waste of money and should just render and skim. I’m actually worried that I will have damp problems at some stage and how on earth am I going to hack all this solid render off and change it not possible at all.
@macplastering
@macplastering 16 күн бұрын
@@londonengland7096 it is still possible to remove the render it is just hard work again if no problems after so long i think you should be good Im not sure dot and dab would been much better in all honesty , you would have had to use foil back boards if worried about damp and stuck plus pinned in. thing is if damp is getting in then you must stop it from the source 1st be it a leak or condensation, again if not problems you should be grand just keep the air flow going and heat the house when cold out open window when cooking and showering ect
@macplastering
@macplastering 16 күн бұрын
also have been to peoples houses that had lime and hatted it both looks and it been damp , here is very wet climate like raining 85% the year so lime has no hope to dry out in my opinions if your in london it might be a little better weather but no 100% sure

I'm a DIY-er doing some sand and cement render at home internally. I'm struggling to calculate how much sand and cement to mix for a given square metre. Is there an easy way to estimate quantities? Also, I bought Sikabond SBR+ and I can't interpret the dosage instructions on the bottle; I can't work out how much I should be putting in. And should this go in both the scratch and top coat? I watered it down and painted it on the brickwork first. I also have a plasticiser that I have been putting a tiny splash in each time. Is it okay to use that in combination with the SBR+? Thank you

So When i use sbr I always paint it on neat / pure and will coat over it while wet or tacky before it dries, when i add some to a mix I only ever add a drop full I believe there is loads off videos on my mixes on channel if you fancy a look.... There is for sure a way to calculate meter per weight of sand and cement im not sure on the mathematical formula but no doubt it would need the area and the depth added in then the ratio of mix and would give you what's needed to achieve this, thing is I have been doing it that long just go by eye and of course ever wall and backgrounds are different, will need different mixes and or more coats to get straight ect A good way to simplify how much you need is make one mix see how far that gets you then just multiply that and you will know how many mixes you shall need and how much materials hope this is helpful my friend
