One of the best bits of bikepacking is the setup, which is distinctly different from traditional touring. In bikepacking, gear is packed in lightweight, compact bags that attach directly to the bike frame, handlebars, and saddle, allowing for better balance, stability, and maneuverability on rough or remote terrain. Unlike traditional touring setups, which often rely on bulky panniers and racks, bikepacking setups are designed to minimize weight and drag, making it easier to tackle off-road trails, steep climbs, and technical sections. This streamlined approach not only allows for greater freedom and adaptability but also makes it easier to explore hard-to-reach places and experience a more immersive, adventurous ride.

to fight off midges I use a cap with a net, long sleeves and long baggy trousers. you can cycle in the rain all day wearing a poncho, rain pants and overshoes for motorcycling. rain jackets will get you wet after a while in heavy rain, a poncho won't.

When there is heavy rain or killer wind l call instant rest day or days. Bizarre time expectations people put on daily rides astounds me it’s not a race slow down and enjoy the experience. A flannel and running tap at a cafe is the best shower or a collapsible bucket and locked toilet stall. My biggest fear was not highways and trying to avoid them.
@WestGoesEast23 күн бұрын
I'll take a day off if it's possible but sometimes it's unavoidable especially if I have a plane or ferry to catch. Sometimes i'd rather be getting a bit wet then sat in a tent in the middle of no where all day. Agreed on a locked toilet sink....I've had a decent wash many times in those :)

To all of our Faroese friends…. I’m thinking of visiting a place that has polar day/midnight sun and The Faroe Islands speak to me. It seems like late May to late July are the months of Polar Day there in the FI. Does that suggest that right in the middle of this time is the point of the highest sun position in the sky? Is the July 10th time frame still very sunny or is the sun very low at this point? In this video… it’s SO GREEN! I read that this was in May… is it still this that green in July?
