Good idea to drop it down to 5 per year, makes sense for sure to just do that many at this point since there are far fewer HOF level cards in football than there are in baseball. That said, tough to just pick 5 this time, wanted to pick about 7.
@rayfromphilly69698 күн бұрын
@@ryanfitzgerald2816 you can pick up to 10. But only 5 are getting in
Very cool! I'm rooting for the Peyton Manning SP Authentic. I assume most of the voters will be vintage collectors; however, since everyone's vote count. Including the viewers and commenters...maybe not. Thanks for putting this together for the 3rd year. Fun discussion.

I love your content guys and watch you constantly but I totally disagree with your take on Chase Utley. I absolutely think that Utley falls woefully short of the Hall of Fame. He had 5 great years and then quickly fell off. He doesn't even break into the top 200 in any offensive category except WAR. Just because a guy had a great few years can't be the criteria. you have to look at the entire career and compare it to others. He has less than 1900 hits, only 1100 runs, only 1000 rbi, no gold gloves, and even during his best seasons he never got higher than 7th in MVP voting. Just my strong opinion. By the way, I think Abreu deserves to be in. He ranks in the top 100 list in almost every offensive category and though he never had an exceptional season he was very good overall.
@rayfromphilly696910 күн бұрын
thanks for watching. I agree with Utley on the traditional stats but Utley is ranked very high on sabr metrics. and the hall of fame lately has been using more sabr metric stats than before.
@ACD199410 күн бұрын
Bobby Abreu's career. Only a 2x AS, 1 GG, 1 SS, not even any top 10 MVP finishes. <2500 hits and <300 HRs. Short of HOF by Black ink, grey ink, HOF monitor, and JAWS, although HOF standards has him in. I doubt Abreu will make the baseball hall of fame, but very good player. Especially in the early part of his career. Definitely worthy of being on the ballot for 10 years. Best case scenario, will be a veteran's committee selection, but there are so many other great players, I don't know if I would place the bet, Bobby makes it.

Great show guys! Johan Santana has the 6th best WAR per 162 for starting pitchers, between Lefty Grove and Sandy Koufax. WAR per 162 games for 2B Pedroia #9, Utley #10. Quisenbery is #5 WAR per 162 for relief pitchers.
@bagwell7811 күн бұрын
Surprised that Dan was down Omar. I don't think offensively Ozzie was leagues above. Defensively, Vizquel was one of the best of all time, not just during his era. He earned those GGs. And SS is one of those positions where, in my book, the GG actually means something. He would have absolutely been in. Like you mentioned by the third year on the ballot, he was around the 50%... And then allegations came out. What I find so interesting is that after the allegations came out you had writers who all of a sudden changed their tune on him, looking for on the field reasons to argue against his candidacy....well, he was more of a compiler, well, he was not even the best short stop when he was playing, look at Ripken....etc. On the field, a no doubt a HOFer. One of the best ever defensively, with solid offensive numbers. He may get in one day via the Veterans Committee, along with Schilling.
@DansVintageBaseballPC11 күн бұрын
I feel like Davey Concepcion should be in before Vizquel.
@bagwell7811 күн бұрын
By all accoubts, Dave Concepcion was a great player and I would not have issue with him being inducted (I am a big hall guy). I have never seen Dave play but I did see all of Vizquel's career. Defensively, only Ozzie Smith was better, slightly. Before his off the field issues (and still to a certain extent today, even with what he has been accused of), the general consensus was that defensively, Vizquel was one of the greatest defensive short stops IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME. I am not sure if Dave received/receives the same amount of praise. Vizquel has one of the highest fielding percentages, double plays turned, has the third most hits among short stops. Had he not had the off the field issues, Vizquel would already have been in the Hall, no doubt about it.
@DansVintageBaseballPC11 күн бұрын
@ Concepcion has a 21.4 dWAR in 19 seasons. Vizquel has a 29.5 dWAR in 24 seasons, so Omar is really only slightly better.
@bagwell7811 күн бұрын
You can try to nitpick stats....whatever on WAR....Vizquel easily passes the eye test.....and then you have the fielding stats. Nothing got past that guy...Vizquel is at the top of most lists of best defensive short stops ever....and rightfully so. A person may have issue with him because of his off the field issues, and that is fine, but don't tell me he is not a HOF SS

Good discussion.; I didn't realize there were so many players on the ballot with ties to the Phillies. Utley, Rollins, Abreu and Billy Wagner. Wagner should make it this year with CC Sabathia and Ichiro. I like that the entire list of players was included. Yeah, next years ballot will be much quicker to discuss. Because there really isn't much to discuss.
