Its especially strange considering that Lucia celebrations (named after a saint) is a catholic tradition and Sweden converted to Protestantism nearly 500 years ago during the reformation between 1527 and 1544

@@kronop8884 I believe it’s a pre Christian celebration of the upcoming solstice, adapted as most celebrations ( including Christmas) to make Christianity more palatable. Certainly this time of year was a big deal before the Christian gods were invented. People have been celebrating the solstice, and other astronomical phenomena, for many thousands of years.

Ah that’s a bit of a different setup as what I am installing with the cooling liquid that’s get heated. Not inside of the engine (oil I guess too) with a plug… but yeah I know many cars have that system, why should that not work? 🤔

@@lifeof_guy Hello and thanks for your message. I don't know. In the pictures I've seen of DEFA heaters they look a bit like old fashioned kettle elements, thouogh white a bit smaller and I presumed these went into the water jacket of the engine (hence replacing a blow-out plug). I think the plugs are there for machining purposes, but are also there to stop a block cracking if the coolant freezes. I think it's better to heat the oil than the coolant and when warming up an engine for normal use I think it's generally better to observe the oil temperature rather than the coolant temperature for correct operation. Oil temp typically lags coolant in my experience. Heating the coolant is only going to be beneficial (I think) if the whole of the engine jacket coolant loop is also heated and this will seemingly (I think) require some pumping, or at least some convective heating. Most vehicles have the engine jacket linked to a / the heater matrix and sometimes heat to the matrix can be restricted. I've seen some pad heaters that are attached to the sump, but I don't think these could dissipate much power and therefore heat hence looking to install something within the engine (oil or coolant) while the engine is out. This is why I'm keen to see your experience, and grateful if anyone here can correct or improve my knowledge, please?
