There’s a lot of propaganda now circulating, more than ever, among Neo Evangelicals (formerly known as Fundamentalists) trying to make it seem like the USA was a “Christian nation,” and “should become one once again.” They make the case by citing various comments by our Founding Fathers, in which, some of them indicated they believed in God or thought the laws of the land should reflect the moral standards in the Christian Bible. But what they are really up to is hoping to conflate the difference between the PRIVATE BELIEFS of any one individual leader of our country when it was in its infancy, and what the Founders ultimately included in the US Constitution, especially in the Bill of Rights! What is so tragically ironic, though, is how these religious fanatics don’t understand how much they, as individuals, benefit from the FREEDOM THEY PRESENTLY HAVE to DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES what they want to believe! Had things gone differently after the US won independence from England, most of these “bible believers” would be facing persecution from whichever one church got to be THE CHURCH OF AMERICA, such as before, when the state church was the Church of England! Had George Washington wanted to, he may very have been able to proclaim himself King of America, and his word would have been LAW, and he may have picked one church to be THE Church of America. Of course, the problem with mixing Church and State, had Washington become our king and the US Constitution never written and approved, is WHICH CHURCH is going to rule over all the others! Had that occurred, we could have very well found ourselves in the midst of an American version of the 30 Years War, in which different religious sects or denominations kill in order to ensure THEIR church beliefs and practices are FORCED on everyone else! Thankfully, that is NOT what happened! The government of the USA became a secular institution, one which favors no church and is not a part of any church! Of course, this had not stopped religious fanatics from trying, again and again, if not all at once, by gradual steps, to work their way into our government and its various institutions. One of those public institutions was public schools. For many years, especially in Southern States, religious sects were able to use the excuse of holding "prayer" in school classes in order to lure underage children into joining their sects! Of course, they were NOT really PRAYING TO GOD, but under the false guise of "prayer" were simply preaching: "Dear Lord, let all these young children know they can avoid the fires of Hell by telling their parents about the revival meeting this weekend at First (name of the sect) Church. Amen" Thankfully, the US Supreme Court put a stop to this abuse in order to protect children from those who would use terror, especially without their parents' consent, to convert them! Regardless of how the label "evangelical" has been used in the past, TODAY, "Evangelical" refers to those many churches who CLAIM to follow the Bible and who CLAIM to have the Holy Spirit, who CLAIM to believe in Jesus and what he taught, but are only out to get rid of our US Constitution and replace it with a theocratic, fascist state! They want to make THEIR RELIGION to be the ONLY LEGAL ONE! They want to FORCE THEIR BELIEFS on everyone else, and if any then refuse, they will be subject to severe penalties, up to and including the DEATH PENALTY! Of course, and as is always the case with these churches, if they were to succeed, most of them will be shocked and dismayed when they learn the religion they gave unrestricted power to is NOT the one THEY, AS INDIVIDUALS WOULD CHOOSE! Only THEN would they find out they were duped into SURRENDERING THEIR PRECIOUS FREEDOM OF RELIGIOUS CHOICE! And once the GOVERNMENT HAS THE CHOICE TO DECIDE WHO YOU WILL WORSHIP AND HOW, good luck on being one of the handful of people that it will be the one you can, at present, choose for yourself! They told them, "We need you to get your church members to vote for the candidates who will do OUR bidding once in office, those who are willing to make laws that will hurt most people! But of course, we can't SAY that!" Then they came up with an idea! "What if we tell people that God has enemies, and that he wants them to attack them and destroy them and that, if they don't, God will condemn them to Hell? And, naturally, they'll have to vote for the candidates who will help win the war against God's enemies!" Yes, they agreed, "Stuff like that!"
