I found that if I feed the strap around the rack bars one side once creates a stopper for canoe moving side to side. This helps if the bars are round and there very little friction with the gunnels. When driving for a few hours on the highway or when it is very windy it seems to help keeping canoe from shifting

The fact that some people over tighten ratchet straps is not a valid reason to not use them.

Best review on Deltas! Gentlemen you know your stuff here and your opinion is valued. My wife and I have Delta 15.5 GT’s. A lime green and the wonderful dark blue gem colors. Outstanding hull and deck shape for excellent primary stability and great second stability. It does not want to rollover. The seat is second to none in the kayak industry for comfort and ease of adjustment. Fits small to large paddlers all very good. The rudder is perfect and smooth and really doesn’t need it deployed much but it is always ready. Camping gear hauling is huge. Large opening hatches. Best thermoform kayak on the market IMO.

Looks interesting! Would have loved to have had a shot of you wearing it from the back to get a sense of how much of your back remains exposed for ventilation, and how the hydration system attaches to it on the front.

Thank YOU!! I was so nervous strapping my canoe to the top of my car for an annual trip to Algonquin Park (did I say I am 70 years old?) and with your easy to understand video I have done a perfect job!! Much appreciated

I got 140 Pro version and love it, but I had to reseal all 3 hatches. All 3 were leaking around the rims. I also know I girl who has 135 Pro and she told me she had to take the kayak to a shop to reseal the hatches on her kayak. Wilderness System could had installed a good marine sealant around the hatch rims, but they did not.

I use both. On my big 17 foot long camping kayak, the rudder makes for an easier time controlling the boat in the wind, Especially if I have stuff on deck adding to windage. It also helps turn that long barge of a kayak.On my 13 footer, the skeg is perfect. I do not need the help in turning. With it's lower profile and the fact that I never lash anything on deck, the skeg does everything I need of it.

I went down this same rabbit hole when I bought my Thermarest NeoAir XTherm and wanted a closed-cell pad for the extra 2 R-Value to add to the 7.3 from the NeoAir to get a cold weather 'pad sytem R-Value' of 9.3. Much to my surprise, I found out from a friend that putting the closed-cell foam pad on TOP of the air matress works best because the bumps allow the sleeping bag to create pockets, instead of being compressed flatter on the air matress. Try it both ways on two consecutive nights of the same outside temp and it's easy to feel the extra warmth with the pad on top.

Is this the Ninja OS?
@FrontenacOutfitters
@FrontenacOutfitters Ай бұрын
Nope - that's the NEW Ninja, not the new OS version. A few minor differences between them. Obvious one is the reflective patches on the front pocket, on the OS they are using a larger highly reflective 3M marker and there are a couple extra lash tabs. But they are very similar...

Great review. You're curved shaft paddle caught my eye. I have CT in both hands. I use a straight shaft with a light grip which helps but I still get sore over distance. Do the curve shafts work or is it just a gimmick?

Great review. I have this boat for 6 years. It is phenomenal in performance and comfort. I go fishing for hours in mine and have never had problems with stability. For a recreational boat it is as good as you can get

Best all around reviews on KZbin for Delta's kayak ! As a beginner I would surely buy the 15.5 as I do a lot of camping and dont have the space for a longer boat. I manage to go camping on the light side with my Wilderness Tarpon 100 ( that I use most of all for fishing ) but find it wayyyy to slow ... Thanks for the review

Would this be ok for non swimmers?
@FrontenacOutfitters
@FrontenacOutfitters Ай бұрын
Hard to say... it will float you if you pick the correct size, and it will keep your head above water. If you are a non swimmer that's fine, make sure you have the PFD done up properly, and i would practice floating and swimming to get comfortable in the water with it before heading out to far from shore. But this is not designed to turn over unconscious swimmers. Have fun!

Found the hip pads kept coming unglued and sliding around in hot weather. Used double sided gorilla tape and that fixed them in place. The 17 swallows a lot of gear but small items can get stuck up in the bow. Started tying strings to the smaller items to pull them out.

Sorry for graving over a in depth review! Im a bit on the big side for the D15s - but it is a very similar handling kayak to the 16 but scaled down a bit for a more petite paddler. I will make a note to get a more in depth guide for it. Thanks for watching!! -Zack

My wife and I got our D16 and D17 from you guys in 2020 and we love the boats. Everything you say, Zach and more. Fabulous performance and quality construction AND they're Canadian made! Highly recommended and Frontenac was a dream to deal with too. Thanks guys.

Zack thanks for this video, the best summary of these wonderful boats, I have test paddled most of them. I own the 14 and 16 with skeg only, saves a couple pounds. If a person is good at using edge turns and paddle strokes to maneuver, no rudder is really needed for most conditions. I think the seat is among most comfortable in the industry, and nice to have fore and aft adjustment. I did add the hip pad kit to both of mine, at 5’11 and 210, the thinnest pad in the kit was just right for me (holes at seat sides are pre-drilled for the kit). Press-lock hatches work very well if you keep them lubricated with Armor-All (Delta says don’t use 303). These kayaks hold more gear for multi-day trips than many of the others. After owning these kayaks for a few years, my biggest complaint is the pad-eyes they use to support front and rear carry handles - they are made of plastic, and even though they have not broken or come loose, they are not large enough in size to tie bow and stern lines easily when car-topping. They need to make those eyes bigger. Glad to have the locking bar too, that’s a nice addition. The other thing that Delta needs, is to bring back that popular mango color. Also, great ordering experience too, here in the central US, no Delta dealers close by (except REI where you can’t choose the model and color you want) but just order them in late summer or early fall and the dealers can get them for you by spring - your shop may get them faster since you’re in Canada where they are made. Fun to paddle and own, for sure!

Worked like a charm for a four-hour trip, most at highway speeds. Thank you for the informative video! I used split lines front and rear and also put a twist in the straps as recommended. Now that we know we can do it, we’ll be going more often. Thanks again!

Generally a minimum of 12' is what you want for loading this way. 15 or twenty would be fine to, just more excess to tie up.

Thanks for watching. Im about 5-10 and 210 lbs at time of recording, and a LG/XL is the best fit on me. The Graduated sizing is really cool, adding more or less floatation on the smaller XS-MD and XXL sizes.

Wondering if anyone has tried the Play PE (plastic) boat? Looking at this boat as my only kayak that can do almost everything (touring, camping, rivers). I sat in a MV A-core and the cockpit fits me perfectly, compared to my current Boreal Design Baffin T2 which is too large.
