I love that the Emet-Selch/G'raha Tia parallels didn't end in ShB. Raha tells us how he was inspired by Sharlyan when asked how to build The Crystarium, to the point where he could see the similarities from up high... and then we get to see echoes of Amaurot's civic planning even in this ruined version of Garlemald, including how considerate they were of childrens' needs. It's all so bitter-sweet.

The writers certainly did their homework as everything involving the Ist legion is directly inspired by… and I do mean directly… Especially Quintus who mirrors those officers that took their own after hearing what had happened to the Reich… This is all a fiction, of course, but as with all great fiction it is based in reality… and Garlemald genuinely makes me so depressed because of all the needless death… of an ideology of one true faith, one superior people’s left, that’s sadly even coming back today… though I’ll leave it there, as I don’t wanna get political haha.

i believe there has been a back and forth between playing that say they heard the shot and many that say they didnt. i was one of those that said i know i heard a shot but i rewatch this part when i react to other streamers play FFXIV and i remembered it wrong. it was a shock when i played it but it did hit me hard a bit.

Every friend I have ever made in an MMO is gone now, so I don't bother anymore. Friendships just don't last in games. Ever. So this is the one reason for me to ever tell someone to "touch grass". There's too much of a disconnect when you're sitting in front of a screen. We're "built" for real interactions with other humans. Real, face-to-face in-person interactions. It's in our biology. I have learned and adapted to online "friendships". So losing them no longer hits, at all. I just erase them. There's no way to duplicate what I have with my best friend. I've known him since age 3. I'm 52 now. We're 1300 miles away from each other now but I still go to see him in person. That would never happen if we met and sustained our relationship remotely. I can call on him at any time, I can rely on him. Nearly 50 years have gone by and he's still my best friend. So if losing friends in an MMO hits you hard, I'm sorry but you need to cultivate some person-to-person, face-to-face relationships.

the reason why she didn't chat at all was because she was a ps3 player and she didn't have a keyboard set up connected to the console to be able to type out the words which was why she remained as a emote-communicator for the most part. When Heavensward came she likely was able to get herself a keyboard or that she converted over to PC hence that "Welcome back" being her literal first words in the game.
