for the strategy you used if the fast step comes first, isn't that only if the fast step is in equilibrium? I found it easier to just cancel out terms and get the same answer rather than your approach. Your response would be appreicated!

Wait so for the Ch4, wouldn't calculating 4 C-H bonds imply that there's 4 carbons and not just one?
@JeremyKrug10 күн бұрын
No. Looking at the structure of the molecule, it has one C and four H atoms. But each of those four C-H bonds has to be accounted for when calculating Delta H.

Do you advice taking APchem and AP bio together
@JeremyKrug20 күн бұрын
I have lots of students in my own classes that are taking AP Chem and AP Bio at the same time. These two courses complement each other, so I have no problem with students taking both at the same time. I have a few ambitious students even taking AP Chem, AP Bio, and AP Physics 1 at the same time!

Is it correct to say all molecules have zero formal charge in their most likely state, regardless of so called octet rule? Or is it more of a Least formal charge objective In other words, should formal charge always equal zero or should it just be minimized
@JeremyKrug20 күн бұрын
Not necessarily. Molecules TEND to take the conformation that leads to the most zeroes. But not all molecules even follow that rule. For example, the molecule HCNO (atoms ordered just like that) has a structure in which two of the atoms have a formal charge that's NOT zero (specifically, the N and O). The molecule does follow the octet rule. Either way, molecules do what they're going to do; they can't always be predicted using one these rules. Formal charge is just another tool in our toolbox, along with the octet rule, to help us predict what shape molecules will take. In some molecules, the octet rule seems to explain their shapes better; for some molecules, it's formal charge. On questions where there's a conflict of these two rules, the CB will usually accept either structure (try XeO3, for example!) I hope this helps!

Self studying is tough, but you've got this! It looks like you've found the two best resources out there (in my opinion) for self-studying AP Chem!
