Thanks for memory lane. I grew up on a Mid-West farm in Missouri. Every November, we would butcher a couple of hogs and/or a beef. There were six local families that would come together to help with each butchering day at our home. Then on to another neighbor the next week-end; so it took six week-ends to get to all the neighbors. Every one always had a big dinner(now lunch) at noon and we would get back home about dark.

In my spirit, while watching this progress, I knew that Almighty God is doing a Great Work in this nation, (and in my family). He is faithful, His promises never fail. He's got something up His sleeve.

Our homestead doesn't have any visible buildings outside of a barn and a half-underground henhouse. The cultivated mushroom business is underground. We grow greens on top of that. There is an acre of land used for traditional native agricultural--permaculture, companion planting, and vertical gardening. It looks like a food forest. Our county uses aerial photography to determine property values because no permits are require to build anything. Their methodology only counts visible buildings.

I am too lazy to do this life style but I do enjoy watching others succeed at it. I grow some fruits and veges but my neighbours kept erecting stuff or cutting down trees or growing 15 foot high hedges along the fence lines changing my back yard environment. It is a constant battle to find the right spot to grow the right crop.

Crime has sky rocketed here in Denver. Building thousands of apartment building and not even filling 4 year old pot holes plus the crime puts me on constant red alert..I could tell you stories but while you're in your car you have to be ultra alert even as you drive. Notice the people around you. I was in a parking lot being ever so watchful and 3 black youths were coming our way. They were about 100 feet away and I told my wife to get in. I got in, started up the vehicle then locked the doors when sure enough, the criminals crouched down and I saw a gun so I cranked the wheel and backed up very quickly. I pegged one and he yelled and I almost got the other two...oops! I missed. I need to be more careful next time. It don't matter. I will protect my wife at all costs....we have had our house up for sale for 6 months without an offer. We have constant loud drag racing a street over that the cops can't seem to get a handle on...the noise is probably the reason we can't sell..

I live in the country up in the mountains in PR. 3.5 acres is good enough size for me. I grow food all year round. It’s like a Hawaii but cheaper. Lots of white Americans live here and own property doing the same things. Our homes made of cement away from flood zones. Our town mayor encouraging to be self sustainable.
