Another great episode. I've learned something I didn't know about Goodnight. He is steeped in the history of Texas.

Thank you for this. I am in SW Kansas so I may have to make a road trip to the Goodnight Ranch. Also want to stop off at Palo Duro Canyon.

Thomas Goodnight once told me that in the movie “Lonesome Dove”, the part where Call (Goodnight) promised to bring Gus’ (Loving) body back to Texas to bury him - was True…. And that it was quite an arduous task but he managed to get it done. ! Because those two cattle ranchers and retired Texas Rangers, were no normal human beings those two were Living Legends - larger than life, real characters! They lived by a code few now can even comprehend! Truly great men! Again thank you for this great video! I have seen the place featured in this video. It is east and a bit south of Amarillo on your way to, say, Quanah. - I will stop there one of these days. I have wanted to for a long time. Thank you for the reminder that it’s there!

Thank you for this! Will be going to your channel to watch your other videos and to subscribe! - Thomas Goodnight was a dear friend of mine. Charlie was his grandfather (or maybe great grandfather, I wish I could remember more about the conversations we used to have!). I guess his sudden death was my first lesson in cherishing and being fully present in the people and relationships you currently have and especially the ones you hold in high regard because no one can ever know how long any of them will last. I am aware that many may argue that Charles Goodnight didn’t have any kids…. And to this I would say, “I could not possibly know the answer about that.” Maybe the movie “Lonesome Dove” portrayed it correctly, and there was the boy (played. By Rickie Schroeder in the film) whom Gus (Loving) gave Call (Goodnight) a hard time about and eventually (on his deathbed) asked Call (Goodnight) to give that boy his last name, because everybody in town knew that was his boy, but him. The boys mother had died, and apparently her profession, by its very nature, brought the paternity into question. (This was probably not a chosen line of work, but one accepted due to lack of other available options). Or that may just be something added to make it a good movie but I do not know. His last name was Goodnight and he spoke about them on occasion. I believe Charles died either when he was very young or maybe right before he was born. Either way. I remain fascinated by anything to do with the family! Thomas was an awesome person and friend! He will be forever missed by many of us who had the great fortune of meeting him!
