Not in a way that is useful to reduce file duplication. But using H5P as linked files from the H5P content bank will reduce duplication of images inside the H5P files. Probably the best thing to do is go through all your pages in each course and remove extra images/files that are not used and make sure you optimise your images before uploading. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJmao4B4fbOjgbM

Great video! Thank you! Question: I have been using Moodle with in person tutoring on a course I have just finished developing. I have now weighted the grades - but it does not seem to affect the already graded students. Is there a way to change the weighting for the in process students??

Great question. It should happen automatically when the CRON runs in the background. This can take some time depending on the server and when the task is set to run. It will not appear straight away though. Has it updated the weighting since you made the changes?

Hi Chris, great video, I'm trying to set up a brand new Moodle site with about 50 separate self paced learning courses, I'm wondering whether these enrolment settings within the participants tab will need to be added to each individual course or whether it can be done site wide in one go. What I've done is I've named the self enrolment instance 'Click the 'Enrol Me' button below to start the course' which gives the user a bit of instruction and context on what they need to do. It would be handy if I can replicate this model site wide and not have to go one by one. Cheers, Looking forward to hearing from you

I don't know of any way to update all courses settings as a bulk change, so you would need to manually set each course up. But for new courses, create a template course with all the settings ready to go and this will save you having to set everything up every time you create a new course.

@@deanstakos5935 You can just create a course and put it in a category and call the category templates, then copy the course when needed as Moodle now has a copy course function. Prior to the copy course function, there was a course template plugin but I don’t think it had any additional features.

Hi Ricoshae, Thanks for the tutorial. Is there a way to change "This course requires a payment for entry." to something else? Where do we need to change it to? Also, is it possible to show Paypal logo here, so it's clear to user that they are selecting a Paypal payment method.

Yes, you can. In the Administration section. You go to Language > Language customisation > Edit language pack. Choose all the files under core in the list. Then search for 'This course requires' It will show 'paymentrequired' as the language string. Beside this you can then enter your own version of the text and save, update the language file which then gives you your text instead. For the Paypal log, this might be a bit more complicated. The only suggestion is to use CSS to add the Font awesome icon to a class on the payment page. This may need a video to explain the process.

Thanks @@Ricoshaefor replying. After 3-4 hours of struggle, I was able to figure it out and was able to change the text which appears on the button. Here is my situation, I am using PayPal and Stripe both the plugins. So for any particular course learners will be able to see both the payment options. But at the moment it's quite messy and not clearly distinguishable. I will be waiting for your video about using the logo with custom CSS. Many thanks

I have been testing some ideas. One simple thought I had is to add this to to your theme CSS. It is a self assessment activity. I don't want to receive someone's result. The person is that is giving it can only see the result. I want it to give a different score for each option. It is actually a mental health survey website that I'm trying to make. So, for example a question is "When was the last time you cried?" Options were A. Recently B. Not too long ago C: Very Long ago. So I want to give someone 1 point on choosing C option and 0.5 on choosing B but no points on choosing A. Is it possible with HTML and Javascript? If so, could you make a tutorial?

This is most likely because your local machine doesn't have a way of sending mail from it to send the notification. This usually means installing an SMTP server on your localhost.

Once a student completes a course. In the "my courses" block, the course will go to both the "Completed Courses" tab and the "Available Courses" tab. Any idea on how to just have it in the "Completed Courses" tab? I can't think of anything besides having to modify the logic in the my courses block which isn't awesome. I mean as a user, it makes sense to not have your completed courses also filling up your available courses tab right? So you'd think that's pretty basic logic.

It is a bit odd. The original purpose I think was to save your progress, location in the activity and then close the browser window. But it only seems to save your location or progress and not close the window.

If the restriction is set to a specific domain, then the the video must be embedded in that site or the user clicks on the link in that same domain to view the video. If you take the link out of that domain then the refer domain would be different so the video will not play.

Installing on local is the same as installing on any Moodle server. Just go to plugins in Admin and u;oad the plugin Zip file.

I installed a theme for moodle on cpanel and it is giving errors. If there a way to reverse/ uninstall theme or do i need to delete everything (including the sub-domain) and re-install moodle entirely?

Yes. That is correct. The /my page isn't related to a course. The '/my' page doesn't know if you are a teacher or a student as you are currently not in a course. It only knows that you are either a logged in user or a guest. This is a thing called context, which is a big part of how Moodle manages permissions. To put something on the 'my' page, you would need to create a custom plugin that shows each course you are in and what role you have for each course.

Thank you very much. I am really pleased that you like the videos. I assume you mean the 'drag and drop onto image', which requires an image to position the elements. What you can do is use a transparent image as the background. This will allow the drag and drop content to position itself in relation to the image dimensions. Hope this helps.

You can download the whole Moodle site, just need to download the root folder, download the Moodle Data folder and also backup the SQL database. If you mean download all courses in a site, then as far as I know you need to download the courses individually.

Enable competencies needs to be turned on first by an admin. Then competencies need to be created in the admin section. Then you can add them to your course. I haven't put together a video on competencies yet because the competency process in Moodle needs some work. Hopefully there will be an update to the competency framework that makes it more user friendly soon.

@@Ricoshae I am the administrator, courses are enabled, competencies are created and when it comes to adding one, as soon as I select it, the add button goes off coloured and can't be clicked. Upon checking again, it still reads, NO competencies added yet....I can't understand why that may be. I was never puzzled like that before

Our Admin has it set up so when we provide a course link to a student they are taken to a login/sign-up page and upon sign-up / verifying their email they are automatically enrolled into the course. Do you know where this setting is? I am interested to learn more.

Sure. Go into the course. Select participants. Then select the drop down in the top left that has 'Enrolment methods'. One of the options here is self enrolment. This is where the enrolment key is placed along with other settings.

Hello, thanks for the handy tip. Our IT department has made me an Admin and we do have a few other courses with different Admins grading various assessments and I am little weary of them receiving email notifications from my group of assessees who have completed their testing. I note that in our system there isn't anyone assigned a course creator role yet so I have assigned myself it and added that role to receive email notifications within my course. With these adjustments will I be the only one to receive email notifications for course completions?

Only you as the feature is course dependent for the quiz. It is best to enrol the assessors as teachers in each course rather than as admins as this limits the emails to the courses they are a teacher in. For course completion it is a completely different process to send notifications. The easiest way to get an email on course completion sent to a teacher is to use the certificate function, which has the option of sending a copy to the teacher as well. I have also used the Event Filter plugin to do this. moodle.org/plugins/tool_trigger

You should backup all the Moodle files, the Moodledata folder and the Moodle database before attempting to upgrade. It is also very wise to run up a second server to test the upgrade process before running this on your live server. I would also suggest turning off the mail sending feature on your test server to make sure student don't receive notifications during the testing process. First step in upgrading from 3.8 is to upgrade to Moodle 3.9 using the Moodle upgrade guide.docs.moodle.org/39/en/Upgrading Then you can upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3 docs.moodle.org/403/en/Upgrading Hope this helps.

The only way I could do this from Articulate rise is to duplicate the course in Rise then manually remove the quizzes from the content then export the SCORM package. Not the best solution, but the quizzes in Rise are just part of the normal content. Unlike other LMS products where the quizzes are often separated.

Yes, there is a lot happening in the Moodle code so you do need to make sure you have plenty of CPU and memory to run Moodle especially when you have a lot of students accessing the platform. I'm not an expert in this area so I would definitely do more research if you plan to self host a live server.

You can bulk enrol existing students in other courses. In the upload process for Upload type, choose 'Update existing' or 'Add new and update existing'. This will use the current students profile and allow you to enrol them in multiple courses.
