Amex makes tracking your balance and payment quite difficult... I believe this is by design in an effort to get folks to overspend.

In the heloc example its typically better to finance the boat or car directly instead of hitting heloc funds. Rates are way less. Right now its at around 5 pervent fixed on a car (with good credit) and 10 variable on the heloc. Helocs are great for emergency funds though. A few years ago i told the wife i wanted to get a heloc. She said "but we dont need the money". Exactly. Get the funds when you dont need it and let it sit there. Sure enough a couple years later my business struggled (im a loan officer on commission) and i was grateful to have essy access to funds to cover my bills. If i had waited i would have been declined om the heloc.

I have 4 cards with Capital One.

My first card dispute was with AmEx over 20 yrs ago and they didn't back me up and later Capitol One did so i didn't use AmEx for 15 years. AmEx now is much better and CO went to crap. Try getting CO to do anything and not fight and pass the buck is infuriating.
