1 seam to 2 seams. Lol
@mattkies1233 жыл бұрын
WIth Infrared There is no seam, Because we are heating it, we weld the edges together creating a watertight seamless joint.
@MichaelJeffers75 Жыл бұрын
seams are created by saw cuts that expose a cold edge for hot mix to but up against. IR heats that seam on both sides which cancels it out leaving a totally fused mat that only appears to have a seam because of the color contrast.

The HDE 1050 12' x 6.6' infrared asphalt heater is an awesome pic of asphalt mix paving equipment, especially for this type of alligatored potholes on the roadways. I guess pre-hating the damaged area of the highway is the key to the longevity of the pothole repair.

repairs fail within a year
@mattkies1236 жыл бұрын
Decca Robbo when done properly a infrared repair will last for many years, and can out last a typical saw cut repair. Like any process, there is a right way and a wrong way. We have all expierenced bad crack sealing , seal coating and paving jobs, that does not mean those process do not work. The right equipment has to be used and the crew running needs to be trained to use the equipment safley and , efficiently to allow for a long lasting repair

The bitumen(tar) only starts to burn off at 275F. Generally we will heat to 225-250 so the asphalt properties are not affected. This has been proven by Marshall tests on re-heated asphalt on joints by Tennessee and Arkansas DOT. These reports are available. Wr recommend addition of asphalt rejuvenator to help the oxidized asphalt become more pliable again and if the asphalt is overheated, this will help as well. . Tests sections have proven to extend the life of the pavement by 5 to 10 years. Call us and we will show you how well it works.

PA roads need this in a big way.

I'll be getting started on that very soon starting in Scranton.
@Briebabcock80526 жыл бұрын
So my only thing is, ya should've started working the area of the pavement that is cracked as well before working the area that is sunken. That way, that whole section of roadway with be reclaimed and there won't be any places for water and other contaminants to enter. But other than that, nice job.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! Come to Sudbury Ontario. Our crews here have been using that useless cold patch method for years, and our vehicles are paying the price. I have tried to get their attention to make the switch, but I think a call to them might help if you can convince them to give a demonstration.
@tjlomin14666 жыл бұрын
Awesome, only problem is a lot of the tar content in the original material will be lossed. Patch will last not long
@heatdesignequipment6 жыл бұрын
TJ, By heating it with our infrared heater there is no loss of oils ( AC ). After the area has been scarified, we add a rejuvenating oil into the heated asphalt that both softens the asphalt and replaces the oils that has oxidized over the life of the pavement.

i never tried this one ... but i find mill and fill method pretty doing the work ... and i totally agree about the durability ... plus it is pretty fast if the team doing the work is organised ... but i have to ask since you have done it before ... how were the results of core testing for this kind of repair??
@heatdesignequipment3 жыл бұрын
The core test we have done shows that we do not alter the properties of the Asphalt. This will always be the case if the procedure is followed.
@91october12 жыл бұрын
so the infrared actually melted the tar and now its just being re-worked to make it look brand new?
@Briebabcock80526 жыл бұрын
If the asphalt isnt too old, heat, rake, tack, mix in new, pack, call it good. But in my personal opinion, mill up the bad, heat the edges, tack, fill in with new, and then pack it.
@heatdesignequipment3 жыл бұрын
We have heated joints on milled areas as well, this will give you a perfect fix, But still more costly when compared to the infrared process. The infrared process is meant for Smaller localized areas which mill and fill and saw cut would not be cost effective.
@MichaelJeffers75 Жыл бұрын
@@heatdesignequipment how is mill and fill even a considered option compared to IR? What sense does it make to mill out rocks and replace them with other rocks, especially since you can just fill a hole with crushed asphalt chunks mixed with RAS and rejuvenate everything once up to temp?

Several years ago I went to the National pavement expo. When I saw this I thought it was the wave of the future. I wanted Everblak Inc. to be the leader in our area to provide this service. We were determined that this was the best solution for small asphalt repair. After 2 years experience with 3 Infrared panels. I can tell you that we have gone back to using the mill and fill method. We believe it provides a more durable, esthetic, and long lasting repair in less time for less money.
