Thank you. This is the best comparison I found. I perceive that with the 50’s the sound is brighter even if you roll down the volume, and the tone knobs have more effect. I think one great advantage is that prevents the tone to get muddy if you roll down the volume while using a fuzz. Another great advantage is that if it sounds too bright, your tone knob has a stronger capacity to compensate it. I would definitely try it. Why do you prefer the orange drop cap for the 50’s please ?

Nice! Do you think that can I nail the slash tone with the RD boosted with any another overdrive pedal?
@lorenzo-marra
@lorenzo-marra 6 ай бұрын
well it really depends on you, for sure you can work it out and the RD could help you shaping your tone. I'm not that expert about slash's tone but I know he used modded 800's with sir 34 and 36, ge7 eq and, if I'm not mistaken, an sd1 for boost. I'd say you can definetely found a good base sound with the rd or the rd hot rod to work with... for less money I would recommend mi audio super crunch box for 800 tones eheh

Which setting has the most gain?
@lorenzo-marra
@lorenzo-marra 7 ай бұрын
hard to tell, especially now that I don't own the pedal anymore, eheh. by the way, as far as I can remember, the settings of the switches acted most as a "tone stack" sculpting frequencies more than adding less or more gain. Of course the settings with more treble and hi mid could sound alike there's more gain I'd say

Hello I really like your sound and set up of guitar pedals. I also have a Dr. Z Maz 18 NR MKII and a Les Paul. Please, would you be so kind as to share or tell me the settings of your amplifier. I mean Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Cut, Master Volume? I think you are also using a little Delay, is that right? I'm thinking about whether I should buy the plexi drive and/or tumnus. I use original Tommy, and The Duellist. Thank you very much from Spain.

Hi buddy, the eq and cut were totally flat 12 o' clock, master volume 9 o' clock, I can't remember the setting of the gain (I don't mention it in the video and it's been a while since I recorded this video). I've swapped a lot of pedals since then, only the tuner, bb preamp, chorus and phaser remained. Great pedal the duellist, just keep with it! I bought the alcyon green but the soloist was an alternative. You're right, there just a little bit of ambience set from the daw (cubase): pro reverb by fabfilter and a studiotape by soundtoyz. I think you've already found it but I shot a video of this pedalboard and the maz 18 with a les paul too.

@@lorenzo-marra Thank you very much. Someone has offered me a Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe as part of a pedal change and I hesitate, because I don't know if I should have a Tumnus or a Klon type first. I think that playing with the Duelliust I can achieve hard rock tones. I also have a Timmy Original. What do you recommend me?
@lorenzo-marra
@lorenzo-marra 7 ай бұрын
@@joseluisgs well, it really depends on what you're looking for. At the moment you already have two great od's and yes, a klon type would be a nice add but maybe you're still missing a big voiced od/dist in your setup, this could be the plexidrive or another pedal like the super crunchbox, ocd, suhr riot, plexitone, revival drive... there's plenty of fish out there! eheh. If I were you I would shot the trigger first for a main overdrive since you already have two great pedals for boost and crunch tones

ciao e grazie!

I have both the angry charlie and pinnacle. On fender tube amp the angry is by far better. No doubt is possible : the wampler sounds electronic and harsh with the trebble (or lacking definition if you turnthe contour down), While the angry sounds like a big jcm 800: i was so surprised by the natural sound. If you have ever player on a true big amp you will be surprised by t he fact that is is less agressive than most distorsion pedals. So thank you for the good demo but we listen through a smartphone or a hifi device : it may je totally misleading. I have used the wampler on mesa as well (with good fender custom Shop strat) : as well disappointing to my ears. As to the comparaison with the 2 other pedals I did not owe them. The crunch looks good and not harsh. Thanks again for the excellent demo!!!

Com'è il plexi drive rispetto al tumnus deluxe?
@lorenzo-marra
@lorenzo-marra Жыл бұрын

Hey great video man! I just got my first humbucking guitar in a 2004 Heritage H535 and had pots and wiring upgraded to 50s style. There are things I dig so far, but other parts are taking a little bit getting used to. For example, the tone knobs don't seem to make a very noticeable impact until maybe the last quarter turn of the knob to where it finally darkens and muffles the tone. I typically like to work my tone knobs so that when my sound is maybe too spikey for a solo, I can round it off a little, but now it seems like I have to turn the tone nearly off completely to darken the sound. It sounds like this may be normal based on your demo but what do you think? Also when in the middle position, it seems like if both volume are on 10, I get the sound of both pickups working together. However, if I back the neck volume down to even 8.5-9, it seems like the bridge completely takes over and is nearly the same tonality as if I just select the bridge pup alone. Same is true for rolling down the bridge volume just a tiny bit while in the middle, the neck tonality just takes over. Is this normal too? It seems like a much more "specific" sweet spot as opposed to really being able to blend as much of the neck or bridge as you want across the sweep. In the middle position, I typically like to blend the pups especially to get that cool Warren Haynes solo sound of the bridge pup, but fattened/warmed up just enough by blending the neck pickup. Are all these things normal and I am just needing to get more used to them, or would you say something is off? Thanks a lot, cheers!
@lorenzo-marra
@lorenzo-marra Жыл бұрын
I'd say it could be normal due to the different behavior of the new pots, maybe it only needs some time to get used to... I can't remember how mine works and now I can't check it out, honestly I generally keep all tones open or smoothed a little bit...

@lorenzo-marra
@lorenzo-marra 2 жыл бұрын
Well it's hard to tell as I didn't a comparison among the two of them. I chose the 484 because I preferred a smaller body, above all for comfort. Obviously there are some differences in acoustics too. In general the biggest body of the 335s bring to more low end and a smoother attack while 339s has enhanced mids and a quicker attack (and somebody tells this equals to more versatility but I think it's quite personal)...
