I've driven by Karnes (not to be confused with carnes(spanish for meat)). Thanks for the history. I'll be sure to stop to take a picture of the courthouse.

Forgot to show the jerky... although the old generation made the jerky better, it's still good.

I am a Pole living in Texas and visited Panna Maria. I met with a few of the folks from Bandera at the airport in Frankfurt flying to Krakow. Its just sad to see that the Poles did not make as big of an influence in Texas as they made in Central Canada ( Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario). It is interesting to see how the Polish food has evolved in Texas. I cry at how they eat and what they eat haha. Syrup? Blasphemy!

Looks like a nice place if you are old and want to retire away from it all. Average age of the people in the video seems to be about 60. Looks like there is almost nothing to do in the town. It looks like it's stuck in the 1970s, which might be appealing to some people.

I was born (1961) and raised in Helotes. Left in 1980. Tried moving back but it ain't country anymore. It is just city now. My first job was bussing tables at El Chapparal. So nice to see Charlie still alive. He is a good man. Never in a million years would I have thought there would be lattes and cream puffs sold in Helotes. Like I said, Helotes is just city now. I now live in the country in Japan. Way better! Serious country where I live. One of my neighbors had a zip line like that built for his son. No harness. Just a handle. When I used to go to Floore's Country Store there was chicken wire in front of the stage and the tables and chairs were bolted to the floor. The bouncers carried 2X4s. Like I said folks, Helotes ain't country any more.....

I remember going to the prison rodeo when I was in school at Sam during the 70s. When someone got bucked off a bronco the announcer would tell the crowd "well, he's got another 99 years to try again".

Y'all need to take a trip down to Houston to Orange on I-10 to try to find the best crawfish coming up. While in Houston visit a Gringos restaurant here. Russell Ibarra is such a major contributor to Houston causes. Maybe even visit our iconic Matress Mac. Jim McInvale. Both of them run 100+ millions of dollars businesses and won't hesitate to help a worthy cause here.

Thanks for the video and comments. I sensed "Freedom of Speech", and "DEI" initiatives that were well combined and demonstrated very well. (Diginity, Equality & greater Independence Initiatives.) --------------------------------------------- I was born at Detar Hosp., the youngest of four siblings. Some of us migrated to the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia 1970. That fall I was to start the sixth grade. It was at that time my family migrated to West Virginia. That was a culture shock for all of us four kids. Except me? I stayed in Appalachia. I am a proud "Appalachian Hillbilly/Texan". I strive to fill those shoes well. My family is buried at Sun Valley. We & They are full of "IT"; and I cherish that. So are Texans and Hillbillies full of it, so I am in a good spot with both. Becoming a "Cowboy Hillbilly" has been the best thing for me. Doing so has hit my spots. I'm spending my evening enjoying things, and being a very proud grandpa, and a happily retired nonprofit exec. I live near the heart of Appalachian Culture. Peace to you and yours also; and with greater Equality, Dignity and Independence (DEI Initiatives). ------------------------------------------ In closing, let all of us continue seeing DEI better practiced. Let's keep signing those DEI agreement forms. Let's keep seeing those posters on the wall, in the break rooms and elsewhere. Why? Because in "Our Communication Age", there are so many more demands for our attention and intentions. Some people in D.C., want to change DEI for the better. They are messing with it, and talking about its values to our nation and the world. I want to bring your attention to that. Most important is that "our perfect practice better ensures perfect play's of DEI", and it does better the results in more perfect plays, as well as, helps ensure better days for all of us.
