Craig, Question: do all 3D printers produce those “print lines” ? Or as the price goes up less lines ? I’ve seen some sculptures with no lines is that because they were sanded off and sculpture made smooth ?

The movement is far from fluid and the zoom get wack up very fast to the point of having to re center the mesh in view. I tried almost all settings in mudbox 3d connexion window.
@TonyBraun6 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter.....I was having the same problems. But I have just upgraded Mudbox to 2018.2.......loaded the latest 3DConnexion drivers v10-5-10......I'm running Win 7......and played with the settings and I have 3D Connexion mouse running really well......really fluidly. I think one of the problems is that the speed of the 3D Connexion mouse changes slightly when more geometry is being displayed on the screen. So when you zoom in it tends to speed up.....and you zoom through your geometry and get lost But I added speed controls to a Radial Menu set to a mouse button......Small hassle, but it works.

Nice tutorial ! I have some questions 1. In the maya low-ploy for mobile games, is it usual to do retopology stuff on the guns? or, just minimize # of polygons when I created at the first place? 2. I created ak-47 for main character in the gta style mobile game. How many polygons I should use? Many thanks!

gsamalot depends on the software you are using. Use a cut tool that can close the faces or use cubes rather than planes for Boolean "cuts".

The forest in Unreal was a lot more than just that one small tree. How did you get the whole forest into the model? Did you use a 3D scanner?
@Craigbarr_CB3D7 жыл бұрын
Jay Thompson hey there - in the video you can see some different pieces. They are all Photogrammetry (all trees, rocks, forest floor).
@kingjameszz7 жыл бұрын
Ok, just trying to get a clear understanding because I love the scene you created. And previously I thought I may need a very expensive scanner to get those same results for a project I was tinkering with. So you took thousands of photos in the woods. Created separate models from sections of the woods. And then pieced them together in unreal?

@Greedie7 жыл бұрын
Awesome, this video really helped me to adapt a certain workflow on my Zortrax as well. Do you know if the Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter works with water based acrylic? Also, are you still working on the Zortrax to create more sculptures in real life? I would love to see.
@Craigbarr_CB3D7 жыл бұрын
Greedie yes water based is what I am using in this video! And yes to Zortrax for creatures and other props!

Thank you that gives me hope. I tried to splatter on a water based acrylic without the adhesion promoter and it just rolled off. Definitely will give the adhesion promoter a shot and really hope to see more of your detailed work!

Yes - ABS must be prepped to accept paints outside of anything that is deemed "ABS-friendly". It's quick and easy and allows you to paint with anything.

I'm new to MudBox but I do know ZBrushCore. I do most of my new design and engineering for new product designs and assemblies in AutoDesk Fusion 360. I have the need to incorporate organic shaped characters into my engineered designs. I need to be able to import from Fusion 360 into MudBox certain sized environments to create the organic characters. Then I need to export them from MudBox back into Fusion 360 and integrate them into my complete assembly. I'm struggling to best determine my workflow. The characters I'll be creating in MudBox will end up getting 3D Printing in full color on a 3D Systems ProJet 660 machine so my completed model with those engineered features from Fusion 360 will need to be hollowed out to a material thickness of about 0.200". Also, how do I manage and determine the units and scale inside MudBox to maintain the engineered criteria from Fusion 360?? Thanks in advance!
@Craigbarr_CB3D7 жыл бұрын
Rick Steele Rick Steele your best bet is to set-up a simple scale check between software products. This can be as simple as a cube that you have set to specifics units (ie 1mx1mx1m). This simple objet will now represent that scale in all packages and allows you to confirm your units/scale. As for hollowing anything, you can either do it manually or, I believe, with ZBrush Core.

So, yeah, 3D printers are affordable these days...what's a 3D printer able to do it withOUT 90s monitor scanlines on the print gonna cost? Three - or fourhundredthousand? Every 3D print I've seen has these lines, which for my requirements wouldn't be a sufficient result. Oh- there I see a Best Printers of 2016 video, let's see how affordable acceptable prints are...'Cause I'm definitely not saying that this tech ain't fucking fascinating. Our lifetime's ratio of (science-) fiction to actual developments is literally surreal.
@CraigBarr3D8 жыл бұрын
Hey there - most FDM machines will produce some lines. However, there are a few things that can be done to minimize or eliminate noticeable lines. ABS can be vapor-baked with acetone to smooth it out. However, producing casts (ie. building the inverse of your model and printing it) is a good way to create a mold that can reproduce your design in a variety of materials. There are plenty of tricks out there to ensure smooth results regardless of the machine and material being used. Thx for the comments and questions! Hope you liked the video. I hope to have something new up soon.

I am trying to make even quads all through my mesh. I am wondering if I am suppose to be using snap to a grid face or point on each extrude and... on the tool settings keep the discrete move, step snap, discrete and retain component spacing checked to get even quads?
@Craigbarr_CB3D8 жыл бұрын
Hey Dom - if you are trying to make every quad exactly the same size, than yes, you will either need to snap to pre-defined scales, or map geometry to an existing model. Other than for engineering or CAD purposes, there really aren't many reasons to want alll of your quads to be *EXACT*. Keeping the edge flow uniform and flowing is most important.

Could have used open source software like Blender. How else are the masses going to adopt 3D printers. Maya = £1,404 per year + Mudbox = £72 a year Total = £1,476 a year. Blender can achieve the same result but cost is = £Blender is Free and Open Source Software. Free to use for any purpose, forever.

how big can you go with the 3d printing?
@Craigbarr_CB3D8 жыл бұрын
+zero15388 That's a tough one to answer as the reality is "as big as you want". Even with smaller machines you can print pieces that connect to form larger parts. There are very large format printers out there. Some even printing pieces of actual building structures.

Thanks for the tutorial. Just had a question can you just take a Plane object from Maya and use that or do you have to bring the plane from mudbox into maya first?
@Craigbarr_CB3D8 жыл бұрын
Hi Dean - The best way is to use the Mudbox plane. The reason is that the Mudbox plane is not a simple 10X10 grid like in Maya. It is actually built for efficient subdivision to preserve the corners. And prevent rounding. So, use the Mudbox plane (just export one and keep it handy for Maya stuff). and you will have no problem extracting between a "blank" plane and the one you have altered in Maya. Thanks for watching and I hope you found it useful!

He's using the pen with his right hand meaning he's right handed. That's his sculpting hand. He's only using the mouse to switch tools or settings. In other words the mouse is replacing the keyboard and the buttons on the tablet for the functions he needs during sculpting. Kind of pointless.
