You should read some of the work of Bas van Bavel. In 'The Invisible Hand' he explains how capitalisme always leads to a concentration of money and power in the hands of the few, the thing we now experience as 'late stage capitalisme'. You as a creator are very well versed in subtext and it's a shame you use it for shovelling this drivel on youtube. I've been following you since your first explanations about Jurassic Park got posted online and it makes me sad to see you slowly drift towards the darkness. Your takes on storytelling are insightful but get diminished greatly by your political takes.

Fascinating observations as always Mike, nice one! I particularly found the metaphor of neurological systems as sociological structures interesting. I often think about how the mind is a microcosm for societal systems, after all societal systems are an invention of the mind, so it seems likely that one is a metaphor of the other. I’m also reminded about how a big part of film making is externalising the mind of a character with design - Mad Max is a great example of that.

I could do with a more in depth explanation of the differences between (late stage) capitalism, financial socialism and communism as you see them. It wasn’t entirely clear to me why we haven’t experienced capitalism. Also, the ability to print money to increase the ruling class’s power (even more) seems like it is a characteristic of all three of those paradigms?
@mikehilldesignstudioКүн бұрын
In free market capitalism the medium of exchange is selected by the market itself (gold for example was selected due to qualities like durability, identifiability, divisibility, scarcity and portability.) The state removed gold backing in 1971 and we are now forced to work for money that the state can print for free. When the capital we have to work for is denominated in fiat currency that the states prints out of thin air we are participating in a slave economy. Financial socialism and communism are just labels for soft and hard authoritarianism financed by a money printer. Capitalism is when all value is created by work and is not diluted or stolen by counterfeit capital (fiat money) The term “fiat” as applied to state currency literally means “by decree”. The current usage of “late stage capitalism” falsely attributes the damage done by socialism to a sociopolitical ideal that can’t even begin to function until fiat money is removed. This is the function of the stateless protocol known as Bitcoin

You’re correct. This is incoherent drivel. ‘Bankers are socialist actually and we don’t live in ‘real’ capitalism. And the more the capitalists run things and gobble up the money, the more communist we’ll be.’ Huh?
@StaenhusКүн бұрын
Because this is how right wing and libertarian analysis works. They describe concepts somewhat accurately (the analogy between society and the human body is a well established one) and then they veer off into fantasy land by blaming "socialism" as the cancer in society. It's a motte-and-bailey fallacy - if you criticise the conclusion, then you can be disregarded as someone who doesn't "understand the concepts" or whatever. If one looks at Immortan Joe with how he consolidates water, and doesn't see a clear analogy to the way agricultural companies have drained the groundwater in California, or how Coca Cola has drained groundwater in India, then one is blind. The main tyrannical actors in society are private companies, not the tax man or whatever, because they are the ones who actually have power over people's time, resources and ability to survive. People like the ones in this video can't see that. Instead they go into fantasy land where the government controls the flow of money (ignoring the fact that the value of money is in direct relation to the stock market), that socialism is tyrannical (when the rights that we do have as individuals are in large part a result of socialistic unions and civil society) and that "true" capitalism would lead to utopia instead of what we've seen it lead to: consolidation and suppression. It's truly wild to see rightwingers try to twist a story with all the elements of a highly religious, misogynistic society (with forced pregnancies) that sends its young men to wage war for the sake of profits and end up thinking "that's communism". It's literally a description manual for the US religious right as it exists *today*. But hey, let's go off into a highly abstract tangent with dubious assumptions instead, that's easier than looking at reality...

Hi Michael, unfortunately i have neither the skill, money or time to develop 104 cards by myself. I have not worked in film for years because of my political views, so i have been replaced already. However to your point, studios should replace me and any other artist if an AI can do a better job. Artists are not entitled to be paid just because they think they should.

What about the ethical concerns behind genai comapnies stealing the work of creators to make a product that then competes with them. Genai is a form of soft retrieval, making it closer to a search engine than how a person learns a skill, so there can be no correlation to people referencing others works.

You can say overt wokeness comes across as propaganda and I'd agree, but it's just a cynical ploy to fill as many seats as possible. It's simply * annoying *. Hey ! As a futur Carrier Deck Officer in the French Navy, and living like.. 2km away from Geneva , this game really touch me a lot. The attention to detail, the realism etc.. They really studied how Carriers work and how space work to mix them up. I recognise real type of process we use on Carrier. Also the atmosphere to orbit tech is really « realistic » like yeah Jackal must go to space ? Ok then we ignite 6 powder trhuster (really more efficient than the one we have in 2025) and yeah it goes to orbit the we drop them. Then when back on the deck we replace them with new one. Nahhh bro this is cool as fuck and I really can imagine that type of tech in like 150/200 years can work with a SSTO Fighter. Same for the Carriers and Cruisers we saw, They igniste huuuuge reactor, no « no gravity shit » to go to space, it use a lot of fuel and you must resupply with the fleet. A lot of things seems « legit » futur tech, like it works like today, but way more efficient because we are 200 years in the future, but still replies on tech that exist nowadays. I love this game so much and beg for a suit or a mod were we can visiti the whole Retribution and Tigris and the rest of the fleet. Alors when I discover this game as a kid, it really touch me because of the attack on Geneva, really 2km from were I live, even if the city is realistic, I recignise some old architecture I knew, it really makes me angry against the SetDef 😂, In the mission were we kill Salen Kotsch I remember replaying it many times to kill him before, during, and after his speech. Also I’d really like to get more lore around this game, like were do they park those huge fleet, what about the other cruisers we saw during the parade, what about their supply fleet and the rest of the carriers fleet, retribution is not the only one they got.
