I absolutely love this video. I'm thinking about doing something exactly like this for my sons at our new acquired land. I got a question, when you did your backfill, did you pour concrete??? New sub

Thank you for sharing your project with us. It’s not easy to build a platform. It’s probably even less easy to build a platform while filming and editing the video. It’s greatly appreciated.

I am going to build a tent pad similar to yours but it will be 8x8. I was wondering what you think about using decking on top instead of plywood?

decking would be a great choice. I had these laying around and figured by the time they rotted out we probably would be done renting in that area lol

Just build a square one to fit any tent and set up a thick vinyl tarp above it

Rode the GAP from Pittsburgh to Cumberland in July of 2019 as a solo adventure. It was supposed to be the GAP & D & O, but didn't quite work out. It's back on the list and may happen this year. Nice video.

Nicely done video. The helpful hints are just that, helpful to folks who are planning a GAP ride. The date, miles, and ride time stats are a very nice touch absent from most GAP videos. Here are a couple corrections. After your Frostburg lunch stop, your video shows riding along the Western Maryland Scenic RR tracks. Those tracks don’t run above Frostburg so that was taken below Frostburg before the lunch stop. The Big Savage tunnel goes through Big Savage Mountain and is miles from the town of Mt. Savage mentioned in the narration. Mt. Savage is located below Frostburg between there and Cumberland.

Thanks, sometimes it hard to keep straight all the facts and videos the way you vision it in your head. I will tell you now that I am out of state I really miss having access to that trail at any point. I was truly blessed!

Whaddaya think the wind rating on a tent on a plywood platform is? 30mph and you're moving?

Thank you for making this awesome series of videos, it is my dream to bike the GAP. The detail you give about the different stops very helpful and the history lessons much appreciated... I always wondered why they called it the Hot Metal Bridge. It would probably take me six or seven days due to my disabilities, but I have got to do this! Thanks again!

That grey stuff that covered the decking, was that stuff to water proof the decking? And if so what’s it called I’m actually getting ready to build my platform and need something to water proof my decking. Thanks!

That was a coating that was on the plywood when it was bought. It was older so I am not sure what it is called. All the wood I used was stuff that was just laying around for years. Good Luck with the build!

How long do you expect the posts to last in the soil? Are they treated? Thanks
@belvedereoutdoors637
@belvedereoutdoors637 3 жыл бұрын
The posts were treated and reinforced with a treated 2x6. They should last longer than the tent or the actual interest in camping lol. For real it was on such a slope that the soil won’t retain much moisture so 10 years would not be a stretch.

Going to do the same. May use pressure treated wood so doesnt rot. And possible decking boards to last awhile and stain later. Then cover with a tarp when not there held down with rocks. Idea behind deck boards or 2x12x12 slabs is that I can put a space between them so water doesnt collect. Might drill a few holes in there for drainage. Guess all depends if permanent or temporary. ;-) Nice work! Hard work!

@ *Belvedere Outdoors* In my case I do it for excersize purposes. I start at Cumberland and make my way to the first tunnel (Brush), then my lil legs tell me they are tired and then back down I go. It would be nice if there was a park nearby with water fountains but I’m assuming there’s one close to the DC area but not sure.
