Follow along as I embark on a tent platform building adventure. The only access path is narrow and the site has no power. We carried the framed floors and cut everything else on site using a chain saw.
Welcome to my place of reverie, the outdoors. I truly treasure my time in the outdoors especially when hiking or cycling. I am currently working to section hike the entire Appalachian trail having completed just under 700 miles so far. I have cycled the Great Allegheny Passage(164) twice, in 2017 & 2019, C&O Towpath(217), Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail (109.78), Western Reserve Greenway Trail(46), Pan Handle Trail, Allegheny River Trail and the Montour Trail. My only hope is that my videos inspire you to head outdoors. Thanks for watching! Have fun out there!

Thank you for sharing your project with us. It’s not easy to build a platform. It’s probably even less easy to build a platform while filming and editing the video. It’s greatly appreciated.

Good job! I can’t imagine the challenge of making this in a remote location!

Looks great! I just built an 8x8 platform on my recreational land for my little 2 man tent.

Going to do the same. May use pressure treated wood so doesnt rot. And possible decking boards to last awhile and stain later. Then cover with a tarp when not there held down with rocks. Idea behind deck boards or 2x12x12 slabs is that I can put a space between them so water doesnt collect. Might drill a few holes in there for drainage. Guess all depends if permanent or temporary. ;-) Nice work! Hard work!

Just build a square one to fit any tent and set up a thick vinyl tarp above it

Great to have in a sizable backyard for a "man cave" or a "getaway"?

That was kind of our thought as well. Plus a great place for making that early morning hunt easier!

That grey stuff that covered the decking, was that stuff to water proof the decking? And if so what’s it called I’m actually getting ready to build my platform and need something to water proof my decking. Thanks!

That was a coating that was on the plywood when it was bought. It was older so I am not sure what it is called. All the wood I used was stuff that was just laying around for years. Good Luck with the build!

I am going to build a tent pad similar to yours but it will be 8x8. I was wondering what you think about using decking on top instead of plywood?

decking would be a great choice. I had these laying around and figured by the time they rotted out we probably would be done renting in that area lol

How long do you expect the posts to last in the soil? Are they treated? Thanks
@belvedereoutdoors637
@belvedereoutdoors637 3 жыл бұрын
The posts were treated and reinforced with a treated 2x6. They should last longer than the tent or the actual interest in camping lol. For real it was on such a slope that the soil won’t retain much moisture so 10 years would not be a stretch.

Whaddaya think the wind rating on a tent on a plywood platform is? 30mph and you're moving?
@belvedereoutdoors637
@belvedereoutdoors637 3 жыл бұрын
Guess it depends on the size and shape of the tent lol.

Nice, would you mind sharing the cost of the materials?
@belvedereoutdoors637

CapCityDC Most of the material was upcycled...half the sheeting, all the 4x4 posts...most of the framing. I would say all in $75.
