Rock Hudson had a daughter. The reason Alan didn't come out is probably close to celebrity gay actors and singers. Im not gay myself but it doesn't bother they made the character gay. Done well that is, and i don't see anything here to say this isn't done well.

Finally! The Finale! Great run down Dan! Thank you so much. This was a blast going down memory lane. This event was such a huge and fantastic payoff to Johns war of light saga. It really did have something to say beyond just superhero comic junk food. Life is beautiful. So live. To live is to be emotional. Learn to embrace and control your emotions. Don't bury them away thinking they make you weak. There are slight problems throughout the whole epic. As I said in the previous video, the biggest criticism I have for Johns' run is the indifference shown towards John Stewart. He really just feels like a background character throughout. And great point about not having him deal with a dead Katma Tu more personally. Also, ignoring Fatality and her feelings towards him and Xanshi was a big mistake. That scene with Kyle and Balck Lantern Alex in the fridge was gross. Her character should have been treated with more respect than that. The Dove being immune to the Black Lanterns works for me. I always thought the answer to that was self explanatory. Dove is the avatar of peace. To embrace peace is to embrace life. Hawk is the avatar of war. To embrace war is to embrace death. It's also really cool how Johns/DC tried to establish a cosmic hierarchy here like Marvel has done for decades. He provided an explanation as to why so much happens on Earth when it just seems to be a back water meaningless planet in a way Marvel has never done satisfyingly. Because life originated on Earth. The life entity is hidden on Earth. That's why the Guardians never wanted Earthlings in the G.L. corp. That's why Abin Sur came to Earth, as a means to prevent the prophecy. Nekron would be one of the most powerful beings in existence because he is literal death. It all works so well. And it provides not only a great setup for the next era of G.L. but the DCU as a whole with Brightest Day. Cannot wait for what you cover next. Take care and peace everyone.

This was great. My favourite, despite not being a huge Titans fan, was the second in your series. Dove's mysterious ability against the black rings never fully gets answered in Blackest night, does it?

Fantastic stuff! If you ever do another of these (though i don't think much could top this story, except maybe all the build up to it, Sinestro Corp War, etc.), It'd be cool to see Hal's fall and rise between Reign of the Supermen and The Final Night.

Agreed, it may sound weird, but I'd definitely rewatch that several time. A long form video in-depth essay into Blackest Night? That's a PERFECT "put on a video and do some chores" or "something soothing to fall asleep to" video (topic not withstanding)

Great video as always! Super excited to see the final video. I loved the secondary lanterns stuff. Great choices. Barry Allen getting hope felt so right. I really liked how Johns started building up Mera and continuing on in Brightest Day and his New 52 Aquaman run. Geoff Johns G.L. run is my favorite run of all time. But you are highlighting one of my biggest complaints over the past two videos. The treatment of John Stewart. Hal, Guy, and Kyle all got to shine but not so much John. He was reduced to a background character in the main G.L. book. He was so one dimensional just being Hal's unquestioning friend, always just there. They over focused on him being a former marine. He was introduced as an authority questioner and an architect. It was so wrong when he was chosen to be an Alpha Lantern. He turned it down but the fact he was chosen was a poor choice And they played that Xanshi tragedy to death. No pun intended. They did a poor job here, as you pointed out, and then would not stop referencing it going forward. This event is still a heck of a fun ride. The tie-ins get boring because it's the same basic premise over and over again. But the main event and G.L. titles are awesome. Bring on the finale! Take care and peace everyone.

I agree, I was looking forward to some 'hard science fiction' from Grant Morrison (which I probably shouldn't have, since he's never really done that,) and this was just a little too wacky and goofy in tone for me. I think Jonathan Hickman could do a good job with that, maybe he'll get a shot one day.

i wish they kept green lantern ganthet, its such a cool dichotomy of the light and dark with him and sayd assisting the living and scar serving the dead. It also makes sense that the guardian that makes rings be the formost protector of the universe that they swore to protect.

Y'know I know you got some flak for putting Geoff Johns GL at number 9# on your list, but having been reading this along with you as its gone on, I get it. Johns introduced new lore and mythos that revitalized Green Lantern as a series, but the stories and depth and growth of the character is rushed and lack an impact. It feels like Johns is rushing from one event to the next and it just doesn't take time to really give some characters and details the time they deserve. There are a lot of aspects of his run I like, but post Sinestro Corps War I can see the stories become more rushed and the moments fleeting.

I always loved the solution for the problem of superhero resurrections this storyline provided. Nekron allowing them to return all this time makes him seem like a monster of a threat, while simultaneously presenting a wonderful opportunity to say superhero deaths are permanent again. Shame it didn’t really amount to that.

I'M SO EXCITED NOBODY TALK TO ME 🍿 🥤 i'd like to mention that i really appreciate that you give credit to the people involved with the comics you're covering, as i feel many people tend to brush over those that put so much of themselves into their craft. another thing is i appreciate you putting your own opinions at the end of your coverings, it's just a nice detail that doesn't break up the flow up the video while still adding to the personality of it all. great work as usual!

Awww, you left out that Batman and WW kiss. It did confuse me for a sec while reading because he’s dead, but the illusion makes sense, and I thought his appearance and their kiss was a big reason why the illusion worked.

Another batch of Black Lanterns: - Drury Walker (Charaxes): was killed by being sliced in two by Superboy Prime during the Battle of Metropolis, in Infinite Crisis #7 (June 2006) (Infinite Crisis #04). - Jan Arrah (Element): was killed by a piece of Kryptonite thrown by Superboy Prime, in Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds #4 (June 2009) (Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds). - Kelvin Mao (Ballistic), Dwayne Geyer (Geist), Raelene Sharp (Razorsharp), Nik Mayak (Nightblade): were killed in the same single panel, burned to death by Superboy Prime's heat vision during the Battle of Metropolis, in Infinite Crisis #7 (June 2006) (Infinite Crisis #04). - Paul Booker (Major Disaster): Died when Superboy Prime snapped his neck during the Battle of Metropolis, in Infinite Crisis #7 (June 2006) (Infinite Crisis #04). - Ryuko Orsono (Bushido): Died split in two by Superboy Prime in his fight with Superboy and the Titans, in Infinite Crisis #3 (March 2006) (Infinite Crisis #02). - Dirk Morgna (Solar): Died frozen and broken by Superboy Prime in Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds #3 (April 2009) (Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds). - Tim Zanetti (Breach): Killed by Geoff Johns when Superboy Prime broke his containment suit and disappeared making way for our Captain Atom, in Infinite Crisis #7 (June 2006) (Infinite Crisis #04). But then the creators of Countdown thought it was better that he wasn't dead and included him in the Monarch storyline, only to die at their hands in Countdown: Arena #04 (February 2008) (Countdown presents #03). Johns still believes that Prime killed him. - Katana's family, Maseo, Yuki and Reiko Yamashiro: Maseo was killed by his brother Takeo for Tatsu's love, and during the fight a fire started that ended the lives of the children. Their story was known in Batman and the Outsiders #12 (July 1984) (DC Classics: Batman and the Outsiders #01) - Cyrus Gold (Solomon Grundy): He died in the Cursed Swamp and his remains were reanimated as the creature we know as Solomon Grundy. Even so, Gold is dead. The details can be found in the recent miniseries on the character, by Scott Kolins. - Paco Ramone (Vibe): strangled to death by Professor Ivo’s android in Justice League of America #258 (January 1987). - John Giovanni Zatara (Zatara): died in his daughter’s place when his body could not withstand the feedback from their connection to the afterlife in Swamp Thing #50 (July 1986) (Swamp Thing #14), and later his soul was conjured into the abyss as a second death, so that he cannot return, in Reign in Hell #5 (January 2009). - Hank Heywood (Steel): Was on life support after being reduced to a metal mass by Ivo’s androids in Justice League of America #260 (March 1987), and was eventually torn from it by Despero when he stormed League headquarters in Justice League America #38 (May 1990) (DC Classics: JLA/JLE #08). - William Randolph Wintergreen: Killed by Jericho possessing Deathstroke’s body in Teen Titans #2 (October 2003) (Teen Titans #02). - Grant Wilson (Shredder): Died, consumed by his own powers, in his first and last confrontation with the New Titans in The New Teen Titans #2 (December 1980) (DC Classics: New Titans #01). - Wade LaFarge (Destroyer): he was executed by his niece Rose Wilson, Destroyer, by being run through with Deathstroke’s sword, in Teen Titans #1/2 (2004) (it is the controversial comic that Planeta did not include in its Teen Titans edition). - Adeline Kane Wilson: trapped in a living death due to the regenerative power of Deathstroke’s blood, Starfire killed her with one of her rays so she would not suffer, in The Titans #12 (February 2000) (DC Classics: Titans #02). - Eobard Thawne (Professor Zoom, the Reverse Flash): Barry Allen broke his neck when he held him down to stop him from killing Iris, in The Flash #324 (August 1983). - Solovar: He was killed by a car bomb in a coup disguised as a terrorist act, in JLA Annual #03 (September 1999). - Sam Scudder (Mirror Master): He died as a victim of Krona’s laboratory security system on Maltus, in Crisis on Infinite Earths #10 (January 1986). - James Jesse (Trickster): He was killed by Deadshot, who shot him in the head and heart, in Countdown to Final Crisis #22 (November 28, 2007). - Bruce Wayne (Batman): This is not the time or place to talk about it. So I'll just say: Batman #682 and #683 (January 2009) (Batman Vol. 2 #28), Final Crisis #6 (January 2009) (Final Crisis #07), Batman and Robin #8 (April 2010). - Scar: The Anti-Monitor burned this Guardian with a single touch. She probably died at that moment.
