Simon, I love your videos. I know you don't like talking about settings, and I understand the basics of fps, but you seem to move seemlessly between real-time and slow motion and I don't understand how (and Google doesn't help).

I shoot 24fps for the PTC sections and 120fps for the wildlife. Sometime I’ll shoot 60fps when the content is unpredictable. The end timeline is 24 but the final edit is varied.

Thanks for your review Simon. I was undecided as to what to purchase until i watched your review. So glad i did. I bought it and i'm amaized at the quality, versatility and value for money of this little gem. It's great for birding, wildlife, astronomy and just general fun viewing. Cant understand why more people aren't raving about it. I'll give my fellow Viking optic users a smug knowing nod next time I'm out. Keep up the good work 😊

Simon as a professional cameraman I am a little surprised you do you not think that you mention you cannot use a lens hood with this system as it clearly seems that it does not have the ability to add one. Also I really do not see why you would not use what nearly all cinematographers (other than the ones who think the cinematographers on KZbin) a matt box with slide in filters? Sorry to be so damming but as a director/cameraman for more years than I care to remember it grieves me why so many Chinese filter companies completely ignore lens hoods for filters when all they need to do is put a thread on them. The lack of a lens hood in sunlight definitely reduces contrast which to my mind is a bad thing. Sorry for the rant but but most of the lenses you have on display have lens hoods so why would you not want to use them.
@SimonMcCabe
@SimonMcCabe Ай бұрын
It’s a fair point Dave but rant about it?! This is a basic, practical option for amateur & pro camera user. I have the Tilta matte box and filter system which is awesome but defo not suited to the K&F market place IMO. What’s wrong with being open minded and offering solutions that don’t cost the earth?? Camera snobs boil my blood.
@DaveKnowlesFilmmaker
@DaveKnowlesFilmmaker Ай бұрын
@@SimonMcCabe It's not being a camera snob and I certainly am not one. It is just filter manufacturers generally do not consider lens hoods when making filters and by adding the ability to screw one on would add nothing to the price and give the user the choice to use one or not. I think they are being led in a lot of cases by KZbinrs who should point things like this out but do not for fear of upsetting the companies that they are promoting.

Hi. I love your content. The composition, colours and commentary are fantastic. I am trying my hand at wildlife videography. Im looking to get an external monitor. I see you use the ninja v. The info on external monitors are a minefield…so my question is when recording 4k 100p does the monitor still display image for you? I dont want the ninja to record externally, recording will be done in camera, I just want to know will the image and functions still be displayed on the monitor while shooting 4k 100p. Thanks again 😊
@SimonMcCabe
@SimonMcCabe 2 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the lovely feedback. I record my regular 24 & 60fps on the Ninja V and 120fps in-camera as the monitor doesn't support 60+. And yes, when shooting 120fps I can see everything as you would on a regular monitor. There are cheaper monitor options that will give you same views (false colour, peaking etc) especially if you're not using the record function.
@SnJWildLifeLens
@SnJWildLifeLens 2 ай бұрын
@@SimonMcCabe Thanks for the quick response. Ok that puts my confusion at rest. With other cheaper monitors that cannot record themselves, a lot of them say output maxed at 4k 60p so I worry that those monitors would not display image at 120p. I think Ninja is a safe bet then and I have the added option to record externally at a later stage (once a learn the pro res, raw etc codec workflow haha). Thanks again and your videos are a real inspiration for me!!

Reds are one of my favorite raptors. The epicentre of the Redkite population is mid wales. Since their introduction they have started to migrate across the UK. One of the success stories for British wildlife. A magnifisent bird. The 200/600 is a great peice of glass. I use it on my A1 and feel spoilt when I do find time to venture out. If you ever get the oppertunity to venture further north. Go check out the White tailed sea eagle on the isle of mull ;). That will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand proud.
