Afternoon. My dad told me in the 30's tractors has two tanks, start on diesel run hot and then switch to TVO "Tractort Vapourising Oil" which I think was paraffin, then switch back over before you switched off to reprime the engine with diesel. Odds on the Government banning these things? Regards

I'm going to use some flexible dryer duct and put it around an extended exhaust (I already have both) and run a small DC fan at the bottom of the heater where the exhaust starts and split it off before it goes outside. I should be able to nearly double my heat output from 1 heater.

Plumb the exhaust into the radiator so the hot air circulates around the radiator and then goes outside

How about taking a long length of exhaust and bending it into a coil with a fan blowing thru it? Being the exhaust is in a steady bend there will be less resistance for it to flow thru. The small fan should capture the heat off the coil. I might try this idea myself.

Is it still working? People who run it on waste oil say that excess carbon built up happens inside the burner, later totally blocks up the glow plug air hole and exhaust opening. I guess white smoke is something to do with over priming during the start up. Condensation is something to do with exhaust air temperature. It should burn clean no matter what fuel you use because the deposit is inside the burner 😅. CO and CO2 has no colour or smell, so it looks like it's burning clean during the operation. I'm just saying. I don't own one yet but researching. What is your experience?

So you did this ages ago, but you could easily have created a sand battery (no water expansion to deal with) and the sand will take in loads of heat and release slowly

i had thoght about running the exhuast thru a copper strage tank on the heat enchange side this would heat the tank of water another idea is tap into the radaitor curclation and have it heat that up then a circualtion pump to tranfer to other rads in the house

Copper brake line? Is that what your coil is made from? Is that 1/4 " or 3/16"?

Great idea! If you were to sweat some solder on there, you'd get better conductivity and a more efficient heat exchange. If the heat exchanger is on the exhaust portion that is indoors, I wouldn't even bother with an exhaust wrap at that point, because you'll get some additional radiant heat into the building from any heat that doesn't fully transfer to the water side of the exchanger. On the other hand, if it's outdoors, you'd want to insulate it a lot, so that it doesn't transfer heat outside through the water loop.

Brilliant videos. Unfortunately I live in the city. So my question to you or to anyone else is. Is it possible to convert or connect the heater to heat the water in my radiators of my house. If anyone knows how this can be done, please make a video to let us all know. Many thanks.

@@TheDIVAofDIY can you turn the pressure down on it? three things to look at. 1. tip size.. and what filter does it have 2. thickness of paint 3. the PSI, pressure being put out. each one of the above can affect the results lol What are you having trouble spraying?

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator ok mate If I do a video can you watch it for me and we will see if we can get a decent result out of this Chinese beast? @@TheDIVAofDIY course I will. Is it still a 517 tip? Thin the paint a bit more, if it seems too thick. Try it at lower pressure.... You'll get tails on the fan pattern... Turn it up bit by bit, till the tails aren't there.

I have a video series where I just plumbed the exhaust through an old large steam radiator. Once the exhaust travels through it is ducted outside where it has cooled down after dropping it's heat into the heavy cast iron. Works a treat: everything else is just a waste of time really.

The buckets input pipe should be at the bottom and the output from the bottom. You are virtually loosing most of the heating capacity the way you got this thing setup. Still won't be very good though.

Your heat sink looks brilliant, but I can assure you the water coming out will hardly get the radiator luke warm. It wouldn't even require a header tank it will be that cool. These diesel heaters ae only good for diesel if you intend to use it most of the day.

I got some ideas, try to use three of your heat exchanger copper breakline pipes, solder three pipes together in one bigger pipe you got an inlet, and three pipes together in one bigger pipe you got an outlet, insulate it a bit with rockwool for instance, place your heat exchanger more to the ground lower than the radiator, at least same height to the lower port of the radiator, connect this with the return pipe of your heat exchanger, in between there you can add a t pipe, one pipe goes up to let the water expand no vessel needed, it's called an open system and the other pipe of the heat exchanger connect to the upper port of the radiator. Once you fire the heater up the hot water will travel upwards because it's lighter, into the upper radiator port, it's cooling down there and travel to the lower port of the radiator back to your heat exchanger again, and will circle by itself without any pump, this is called thermosyphon. I hope I could help you a bit, by the way when you use thicker straight engine oil, you can use an seperate heat exchanger too for that, this will thinnen the oil and it's better finer injected and you have better burning too with less soot and carbon build up. Greetings from Germany

Guys be careful trying to extract too much heat from the exhaust, it'll condense and it's nasty. My experiments were with a proper powrmatic oil unit heater with riello burer. When I underfired it to the point exhaust temp was below around 150deg c I was guaranteed to start accumulating condensate in the heat exchanger. So by all means get all the heat you can but understand the exhaust needs to be decently hot.
@denisohbrien
@denisohbrien Жыл бұрын
@dave himlin the problem with that is it isnt automatic, I can burn any oil based fluid in my air-fed, heated nozzle, riello burner. but it requires constant upkeep to keep air fuel ratios, oil temp and so on correct. i know it sounds simple laid out liek that but its a massive PITA if its a primary heat source. you want to turn that thing on and get heat. and thats not getting into how itll still mess up the heat exchanger. stuffs corrosive with a capital C.

Would preheating the diesel/oil from the exhaust heat exchanger be more beneficial than trying to heat water? It would reduce the viscosity and increase burn efficiency as well as saving the pump some work.

Tried it, it only helps slightly and it doesn't help over about 70 degrees. It doesn't take a lot of copper pipe to get to that temperature.
