Omg girlie you completely saved me! I just found the exact same sewing machine on the side of the road thinking it was just a side table and now I’m trying to clean it up and learn to use it with little to no knowledge on sewing so thank you!!!

Thank you for such a clear and easy to follow tutorial! I have a 44 inch bust on a fairly small frame and struggle to get the armholes and bust to fit well. I've been looking for a good guide before I cut into some beautiful knit fabric for an Ellie and Mac Staycation dress, and you've done a great job.

Great video, I just got one of these JA-28 machines to fix for a friend and know nothing about sewing machines. Would you know how to centre the needle? When mine is on stitch width 0, the needle is all the way to the left and hitting the plate. Noted on this vid at 8m32s you have the top open and the arm is out the zig zag slide mechanism, I assume adjustment must be done somewhere between here and the hole on the side of the machine that loosens the arm on the down-shaft (with the nut and slotted shaft in view). There is not much info about on the Brother, mainly Singer which have a different mechanism. Thank you

You have saved my brain. I was sewing up a Rue yesterday for the first time and for some reason I just could NOT get the tucks right and it looked WAY wonky. Going to rip out my hacked together darts and do this ;) Thanks a MILLION.

I just bought this pattern to use to make a HoCo dress for my daughter, and also for if she gets a part in the Spring musical, which is Grease. According to the size chart, at her bust, she is a size 16, an 18 at her waist, and a 20 at her hip. Based on your video, and looking at the instructions for the pattern, I'm not so worried about the skirt part... I will probably just cut it at the size 20 line and try to make it work the best I can. However, for the bodice, I'm not really sure what to do... do I start at the size 16 line for the top part, and taper out to the size 18 line for the bottom part of the bodice? Or just cut the whole thing at the size 18 line and then take it in where needed? I've never altered a pattern like this before, although I have made garments without using a pattern, so I'm not a complete novice. I would really appreciate any suggestions or advice you have! Thank you!!!

I was taught that exact same way. Everywhere else I’ve checked make the tacks so differently. Thank you for your video. I learned at school in the 70s by a professional seamstress from the 40s. She was a much older teacher but excellent at sewing lessons.

I’m 5’1. My shoulders to my apex is 10-1/2 inches. My shoulders are only 4 inches so I always have to do a narrow shoulder adjustment and I have sloping shoulders too.

Thank you for the video very helpful. I'm making this dress with a silk shantung and I was wondering about your thoughts of adding a full silk lining to it. Your thoughts?

This was not helpful at all, no close ups, you skipped steps for no reason, had bad angles so we couldn't see your work, and said "you're gonna go ahead" every other second like you were very nervous. I'm glad this helped someone, but this was left me with more questions.

Thank you for this video, I am actually making the same dress right now, and was looking on KZbin to find someone making this dress! I am making it in a pure cotton fabric, blue with yellow lemon’s ( like D&G) , I made the bodice first in another fabric to make sure it would fit, glad I did because it needed quite some alterations, now hoping it will turn out well and I will have a nice summer dress.

I aappreciate you sharing this. Honestly the first time I've heard of doing this in sewing. Have heard of similar process called a design board in interior decorating. I actually feel that nood boards are for young unsettled minds. At least my mind is a lot clearer than that.

Hi - video brilliant - wonder if you can help as I have a no dart pattern which needs to have the apex moved - but I just can't work it out as the apex on the master is to the centre of the top and my apex is lower down and nearer the arm hole side - many thanks b . Chelmsford

I hope you don’t mind me asking this, but is that you on the photograph? The panties you have made look very nice on whoever is wearing them. I still love the type of underwear which was popular when I was a teenager. Interesting underwear can make you feel more attractive. Mens underpants were far more colourful and varied in the 70s than the bland ones of today.

Great video! I just stumbled upon this and I see my wife and I dancing in the Jive Competition. We went to the second Glamour Ball and left after 5 minutes. My wife called it “Glamour Bore”. Good call going to McMullan's, definitely a favorite! If you do go back to Viva Las Vegas this year, we put on an unofficial meetup on Thursday at 7pm called Pamajarama. It’ll be at the Piano Bar. People get in their loungewear, penior, smoking jackets, etc.

You need to open the hatch when threading, particularly from the take up lever needleward. The thread on that path goes behind the thread guide used on way from tension adjust.

Viva is so fun! I’m glad you had a good time. I almost came away with a tattoo at VLV 22! By the time I decided I was ready the artist was booked up and I made a separate trip to SoCal! Also, if you carpool its totally worth it to pack some food in the hotel room to have sandwiches and snacks for breakfast!
