This is stupid. A stranger should not approach a dog or touch them anywhere without letting the dog approach them and accept them. Most dogs love head rubs as long as they are comfortable with you.

I have three male dogs, all neutered. They understand that their humans are the top of the pack, then they have their own hierarchy between them. They have individual roles and 'positions' they take. I found it easier to let them figure out their own styles, rather than me trying to impose my wants or needs on them. Recognising what they gravitate towards and encouraging that is really helpful, in my small opinion.

Lost my dog today, Bernese mountain dog, she was truly my shadow.. I was working for 2 weeks and my wife let me know this morning on my way home.. this house feels very empty

OH! OH! A new thing happened today: I was feeling upset because I just hit my head in an open cabinet door (I’m ok) so I sought solace in my boy by sitting down to cuddle him. I received my customary 3 677 kisses before I decided to hug him a little. I never do that because I know it’s not a natural thing for dogs, and he made me tear up by leaning into the hug and resting the full weight of his head on my shoulder, even when I opened up again so he could escape if he felt like it. I was healed, my day immediately got brighter, and I felt so much closer to my boy.

I have 4 rescue dogs . who love each other. 2 of them is a bonded pair . They take care of each other . this has made me an advocate to take in a bonded pair .Wonderful to watch , & see how grateful they are to be together.

Why do street dogs chase motorbikes? Is it because of the sound it makes or is it because they are guarding their territory?

I have a 2y.o. female bulldog that has been spayed since she was a puppy. Shes always been very dominate and agressive to other dogs. Nice as can be to humans but very territorial and with no fear. A random thump in the night and she launches off into the dark with no hesitation. Shes the most male like female dog I have ever witnessed. Training has done wounders but she is a handful.

I so needed this. 2019, my female aussie sat in the back seat of my car quietly growling at the person whom I ended up marrying and then divorcing because of his lying and cheating. (She never had griwled at anyone before or since btw). If I had listened to her rather than scolding her, I would have avoided a lot of heartache and financial distress.

My dog so far has not met any person she doesn't like. Although, saying that, if someone upsets me, she will ignore them for a while!

I have a little dachshund/pug mix and she went through a phantom pregnancy in the days immediately after she was spayed. She was making little nests all over the house, usually in an out of the way spot, like under the desk or in a corner. She would gather her toys in the nest, keep them close to her, and groom them. She would get really restless if she didn't have certain toys with her all the time. This behavior lasted 3-4 days before returning to normal. It was sweet and kind of sad at the same time because she didn't seem to understand what was going on.

What about me relying on the dog in unfamiliar surroundings? Me and my dog had a bond, where she showed me the way in deep forests, my dog was able do maintain a direction I showed her, picking the smoothest way to traverse mountains, ditch wild boar areas, guiding us safely to our destination. Ofc she looked back if I keep up and ofc I gave her the affirmation of being a good girl on our way, all while checking and correcting the direction if needed based on the terrain ahead (as I was the one able to read a map), but she definitely was the leader in those situations. And she absolutely knew what she was doing. Man, I miss my doggo so very much...

You even might encounter the sublime "look of leave me alone" during the weekends once your dog gets older. I mean, they will gladly join you in activities that last for 10-12 hours (like hiking), but you'll see them catch up on sleep instead of demanding attention for the next day or two. (depends on breed though, small dogs and hunting breeds tend to have more energy and are more suitable for houses than apartments - e.g. one of the best apartment dogs is the great dane, they are sooo "lazy" moving that big body of theirs - they just need their own sofa. ...warning: their lifespan is comparably very short.)

She went to the groomer this week and the groomer said she was so wild trying to escape that she might hurt herself or others. I'm hoping that if i take her for a groom monthly she will become desensitized and be more ok with having a bath. Please let me know if you have any suggestions to help with this.
