Not just the best M4/3 wildlife lens - it's pretty-much one of the best lenses ever. I've had one for a year: it has never come off the OM1, and is used weekly if not daily. No regrets. You get what you pay for and this is actually good value if a) you shoot wildlife as part of your job or b) you're a hobbyist who can afford it and wants the best tool for the job.

Hi, Leigh. A beautiful video, mate. The conditions are excellent in this video. What a beautiful mist there. Then it is easy that you do not need a tripod. Isn't this the "typical English weather"? I watched with great pleasure, mate, and your photos are also very beautiful. I am a big fan of black-and-white photography, but when I see your color work, I think I will make more color. I work with the nephew of your camera the Lumix G9II. So I know how nice it is to have a good IBIS. Until the next edition. Antoine.(Netherlands) PS. I subscribed right away. Because I like the kind of photography that you bring.

Hi Leigh & hello from Oz again, thanks for the tips on focus stacking. Since acquiring my OM-1 I have been using the "cross" focus point on many situations & quite like it but I'm assuming you use a small single focus point in focus stacking?
@LeighWPhotos7 күн бұрын
Hi George! I vary the focus point depending on what I'm shooting, but for the focus stacking when I want a specific point to be in focus as the start of the stack process I always use single point to make sure it's exactly where I want it. That's just my preference though, you may find you'll get on better with how you're doing it now - experiment and see what you find works for you :)

I'm considering an EM-1 III with a 12-100mm and maybe the Panasonic 9mm f/1.7. I'm currently using older Canon EF gear which I'll likely keep. Being able to capture everything with one camera and one lens is very appealing as an EDC rig. I'd also like to try some of the composite features with lunar through an adapted spotting scope at 800mm (1600mm equivalent).
@LeighWPhotos12 күн бұрын
What you've mentioned there is a fantastic combo - the Lumix 9mm is a gem of a lens and compliments the 12-100 perfectly! The E-M1 MK3 is a fantastic camera too with a lot of features that the MK2 didn't have.

Thanks mate! I've definitely found over the years that to get the enjoyment out of photography that will keep your interest and stop it becoming "forced" is you have to try and ignore the pressure of the socials and stick to experimenting with your own style and compositions. In a world where the best of the best is laid out before you it can be tough but shooting just for "you" is definitely the best way and ignore the heavily curated feeds of the top tier photographers that never ever show you their failures!

I'm glad you made this video, Leigh! I prefer being a generalist, because it allows you to be much more spontaneous, especially outdoors. Some days are good for macro. Others, you get an unexpected owl. And on cold, overcast days with wispy clouds, you might find a tree in an open area and a wide-angle opportunity. All in the same area. You eventually try a larger context for all those things you might not have appreciated as much before.

Great video. What i have been doing lately is hi-res 80mp post stacking . Using 90mm pro and the om1. Mushrooms are especially easy for this as I can lay down the camera on the grass, dirt, or whatever, then while using the touch screen, focus-shot different parts of the subject. For example, left part of the mushroom, right, center, top ridge left, top ridge right, top ridge center, cavity, then stem. Then go into helicon focus and start stacking those 80mp images. You're left with an incredibly large photo file, but you can zoom in for days seeing every microscopic detail of that mushroom.

Now that sounds like a lot of fun! 😁

Hi Leigh, focus stacking is a great feature on any camera that has it, I've used it on a few landscape shots rather than refocus front middle distant etc.

@cliveturner670220 күн бұрын
Hi Leigh, another very informative video. I am turning into a more close up/macro kind of photographer, a more details in the landscape rather than the landscape it's self. Having started with the 30mm macro, i have just got the 60mm macro and looking forward to getting out into the local woods. I'm also trying the six months free trial version of Affinity photo 2 for it's stacking capability, having never used Photoshop I'm finding it a bit of a steep learning curve. Keep up the good work 👍
@LeighWPhotos20 күн бұрын
Hi Clive! I've been a user of Affinity v1 since it came out but never used it for focus stacking but it does a fantastic job of doing astro stacking so I'd expect it's going to do a great job of that too! The thing I found is there are a lot of tutorial videos out there which helped me out no end when I first started using it.
@banjowillowwarbler-gm4jk20 күн бұрын
thanks for explaining the focus stacking function on OM camera. I have only had a few goes at it so far this summer and have had mixed results, if I am honest most have been bad but I am still at the very bottom of the steep learning curve. I found the incremental step setting a and confusing but you have mentioned the aperture setting so maybe I will give it another go. I like to take pictures of invertebrates etc so I have had the step at just 1 but didn't know about the aperture. You are the first person to mention it, everyone else just skirts around what it is set to really apart from the fact that it's small to large steps. So thank you very much. Maybe I will get some better shots. The cropping bit of the JPEG gets me, I find it very difficult to see where the crop will be so it's always hit or miss as regards bits getting chopped off, but that will be a practice thing I hope. Just need more time to get to use the kit, life just gets in the way. Thanks again for the video, always great to watch.

@LeighWPhotos21 күн бұрын
I didn't notice it when I did the tests no, I think the mk2 they did some fairly major reworks though (certainly to improve the tight zoom) so it might be something that's only happening on the newer model perhaps?
