Good video Leigh, first time viewer. I traded up from the 100-400 myself and have not regretted it; my only regret is that I cant get out and use it more! I also have the MC20 and tried it on the big white a couple of times. It naturally gets a little soft at the long end and at 1000mm with the 1.25 engaged the results were not great, though to be fair it was in summer weather and heat distortion was a factor. I have heard that thisr that have both TCs get generally good results with the 1.4 on the big white, so I may add that to the bag at some point.

Thank you for coming along for the ride! I've got the 1.4x TC but as yet I've not given it a go on big white. Definitely something I'll have to try though, assuming I can steal the TC back off Tracy to give it a go - she loves it on her 100-400 😅

Not just the best M4/3 wildlife lens - it's pretty-much one of the best lenses ever. I've had one for a year: it has never come off the OM1, and is used weekly if not daily. No regrets. You get what you pay for and this is actually good value if a) you shoot wildlife as part of your job or b) you're a hobbyist who can afford it and wants the best tool for the job.

It really is a stunning bit of glass isn't it? So glad I was lucky enough to get it!

Congrats Leigh on saving up to buy this terrific lens. Some very pleasing images in your video. I use the 300.. f4 and I am happy to stay with that lens + 1.4 converter as the sharpness is on par with the big white if not so versatile.

The 300 and 1.4tc is a fantastic combo and I used to used it a lot. If I hadn't managed to pick up big white that's what I'd still be using. Such a brilliant piece of glass that's still the sharpest lens I've ever used!

Congratulations, man. It’s an item I’ve long lusted-after but will likely never buy, being retired and on a fixed income. I could technically afford it, but it wouldn’t be a responsible purchase. So I’ll make do with my much-inferior-but-still-very-usable 100-400, or perhaps will someday upgrade to the 150-600. Meanwhile; enjoy!

The 100-400 is still a cracking lens but this really did take some saving up for. Is it a bit decadent considering I'm not pro? Yes - but it's still just glorious and I'm so glad I went for it. Only advice would be keep an eye out on MPB for a less than "like new" condition one - that's what I did and saved myself £4000!

I’ll fire up my VPN more frequently and fake the UK as my location and keep an eye on MPB. I can pick it up from my daughters place (Ely). Fingers crossed!!

Thanks Lee I’ve been waiting for this one a good honest review. With Both lenses at 300 you probably don’t agree with me I think the zoom has the edge. Four quality reason is I keep it at 300 with the telly converter switched on if the animal gets too close I can quickly switch it off back 300Without the worry of scaring the quarry find that very useful. Just one last thing I do find the images soft when it’s wide open at 400 mil. thanks again enjoy enjoyed it a lot. 👌
@LeighWPhotos4 ай бұрын
Definitely has the edge on the 300 in places but like you say a little softer at the long end but for general use it's still fantastic! The built in TC is just an amazing addition though and definitely opens up so many more shots doesn't it?

Some very nice images embedded into your video. Thank you and congratulations on your purchase. One can see from video how pleased and proud you are with your new lens. If I may ask a couple of questions & in doing so I have assumed your photographic interest extends beyond “birding”? 1. Did you retain the 300 pro? 2. What other lenses do you consider essential to retain to make up your kit and cover the various likely situations you anticipate encountering? Thanks in anticipation of a reply.
@LeighWPhotos3 ай бұрын
Thank you Steven! After a month or so of using the new lens I decided to sell the 300. I've found the 150-400 to be nearly as good so figured I'd use the funds to help my bank account a little! I'm always out with my Olympus 12-100 f/4 Pro lens and Lumix Leica 9mm too. That covers almost all of the photography I'm likely to do. And I always carry my 60mm macro just in case too - you never know when you might spot something!

Great results from it and it looks lovely i think the best i can afford is the 100-400. I will perhaps save for the 300f4 Also I'm getting the EM1-X from MPB
@LeighWPhotosАй бұрын
100-400 is still a fantastic lens! I must get around to doing an in depth test of mine at some point. Is it a pro lens? No, but it's still way better than its spec sheet gives it credit for!

That is one beast of a lens pal. I still love my Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 because it also has internal zoom, unlike the Bigmas. It’s why they cost so much.

I've gotten one ordered, but still not sure if it was a good investment. I already have the 300, so I finally bit the bullet for a wider option without changing lenses. Thank you for the clean opinions to help me think about more I will check out for myself

I think you'll be very impressed with it - I've actually got rid of my 300 now as I feel it's as near as I can get to the clarity of that lens but with a massive increase in versatility!

@@LeighWPhotos I can't wait to try it out! I feel like I may miss the blind ease of the 300's lens hood lol. From your results and the results of others, I feel much better about being broke haha! cheers!

Hi Leigh Fabian Fopp, a nature photographer who photographs with Canon, compared the 150-400 with the Canon RF 600mm F/4 prime lens, that's how good this lens is. you will not find an equal in the price range in which this lens operates. This lens is an absolute killer and unbeatable. the problem is the Censor of the Om-1 (MK II), they should use fewer pixels instead of more on the same censor. many pixels on a small censor causes noise. you also see that happening with the Canon R5 MK II. With the iPhone 14, which has 12 mega pixels, you can take beautiful, detailed photos in the darkest churches. despite its very small censor. By the way . very Nice photo’s 👏👍❤️
@LeighWPhotos3 ай бұрын
I've not had much of a problem with noise, but then again I know the limits and work with them so that's probably why 😊 You're right though - it's a fantastic lens!
@RobertOwen-p2e2 ай бұрын
I’ve had the 150-400tc since last November on my OM1ii, and it’s rarely separated. Great for birds. I have had some noisy shots but DXO Photolab (especially the latest) cleans these low light shots amazingly.

Well done Leigh. Could never handle it. Could never afford it. Longest lens I have got is 105 mm for the Canon 400D camera. Could do with a bit longer length lens (100 to 400), but I am only a poor amateur who takes very average shots.
@LeighWPhotos4 ай бұрын
It definitely not for everyone - I'm quite lucky that I was able to afford one at all!

Nice one leigh, if you dont mind me asking, what condition did MPB give the lens for the price you paid, as when i was looking they wanted near enough full price, but that was mint condition.
@LeighWPhotos4 ай бұрын
It was in "good" condition but to be fair a few small scuffs on the shoe and a small mark or two on the hood I'd actually call it excellent but I'm not complaining considering the discount it got!
