The first season I can remember following the Lions was 1978. That year a rookie named Al "Bubba" Baker recorded 23 sacks (before there was such a statistic in the NFL). It has been my experience through the years that while this fanbase really loves Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson and the heroes on the offensive side of the ball, Detroit fans love to hang their hat on a stellar defense. Personally, I would rather have a dominant defense that teams fear much more than an offensive juggernaut. There is a reason the old NFC Central was called the "Black and Blue" division. A power running game and a fierce defense is the recipe for long term success.

Decker was drafted in 2016. Patricia arrived in 2017. They did draft Rangnow ('17). The only other players that were acquired and still remain are Reeves-Maybin ('17) and Jack Fox ('20).

Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia made great decisions by drafting Decker, Ragnaw, and even Hockenson (which ultimately netted Detroit La Porta) and Detroit is reaping the rewards of that choice. They can have credit for that but take credit for the piss pour job they did at everything else.
