Can I treat when I mark the dog dropping the tug toy? Or are food treats not necessary while playing this game with them?
@Pmpdogtraining8 жыл бұрын
If Im understanding your question correctly, yes you can. The mark is simply to let the dog know that it is "correct". Depending on the dog and how you want to guide the experience and motivation of the dog, sometimes Ill toss the toy or food. That allows you to reset the interaction and begin over again. The reward is whatever is motivating to the dog be it food, toy or praise etc. Thank you for the feedback!

You're good brother. You deliver the information very accurately. I have a 14 week old blue heeler puppy. I already started marketing training with him 2 weeks ago. Do you think that's too young?
@Pmpdogtraining8 жыл бұрын
Not too young at all. Marker training with puppies is all play and fun. Mistakes are allowed since its a learning phase. Its typically very easy to imprint what "No" will mean ( non rewarding/withholding reward) making it easier for the dog to figure out the process. Short sessions between 5-10 minutes at a time, periodically throughout the day. Make sure what you're asking/guiding the dog to do is simple for it to process and be successful and end each session where the dog is able to perform the behavior correctly. Make sure to add your release marker whenever you finish an exercise. Try not to wait until the puppy checks out and gets bored. More importantly at this age is exposing your pup to as many things, people, place, sounds, textures as possible. Dont over work the puppy too much physically as the bones are still forming and growing. When the pup is around 6+ months of age you can start adding a little more structure and discipline where the dog is a bit more mature and can take on to more discipline training/rules. Keep expectations realistic and socialize your pup! Puppyhood is a short window. Socialization is a life long thing but socializing early improves the dogs confidence as it matures. If not you will have a whole new world of problems which will make it more challenging and limiting for you and your dog. I hope this was helpful. Keep me posted on how things progress! thanks for the feedback Chris!

@Pmpdogtraining8 жыл бұрын
Take your time and plan locations out thoughtfully so that you're not working at a pace too much for your dog to handle properly. The more you focus on making your interaction fun and engaging the better chances you have at helping your dog with distractions. Its a competition when it comes to distractions so you want to give yourself an advantage when practicing. Put yourself and the dog in situations that both of you come out feeling good about things! Thanks for the feedback.

I was about to get an abo on your channel because I love your engaging training. Now I just found out your using those e-collars too which is disappointing me, sorry but do you really need those? Keep up the good positive work and re-think those punishment methods. In Germany, where I grew up those things are forbidden - for a reason. Apart from that: the jacket is pretty cool!
@Pmpdogtraining8 жыл бұрын
+Aedony Thanks for the feedback. It would be a shame to say all that was good suddenly dissipates because of my use for e-collars. Although I can understand the argument you make - it simply is not the case. Thinking is what I constantly do when in comes to the approaches I take with each dog. Personally I feel it's the varied definitions we give to words that tend to steer our thoughts and conclusions. Long story short - There is always a balancing act in play when it comes to training. I try my best to show support of my claims based on the results of the owners and dogs that come to me for help. I should also mention with so many new, incompetent and reckless trainers out there influenced by TV or groups blinded by their agendas - this wouldn't be much of an issue. As with dogs the same goes for people - they cannot be labeled and placed in a box. I take my work with dogs very seriously due to my own personal experiences and just because I use prong collars and ecollars does not make me cruel. It is not the tool that is inhumane but the intent behind it and how and when it is used.
@dusty65337 жыл бұрын
A tool that teaches through punishment is cruel. The tool was created to inflict an emotional response which is sparked by an unwanted behaviour. This is a punishment. Using such a tool teaches a dog that if they should do what you want them to do out of fear. The difference is this; do you want your dog to talk to heel because he finds it rewarding, or because the alternative is potential pain or discomfort. An owner may gain obedience with these tools, but I believe owners lose their trust and damage the bond. Just because a dog is highly obedient, it does not mean that they trust their owner and have a strong bond. They've been turned into a robot.

hi great video but what's the best treat for a puppy thanks 11weeks old it's hard to get his attention
@Pmpdogtraining9 жыл бұрын
+koyes miah For a puppy that young you can use his feeding time to practice. Instead of feeding the puppy for free, just have all his meals come directly from you and hand feed. Puppies have short attention spans and small bellies so don't expect it to go on for too long. Capitalize on its hunger and make it short and fun. Hand feeding helps too because you are able to monitor how much food they take in. How long you practice matters less than the quality of the experience. Make sure that you set both you and the puppy up for success by being aware of the environment. If you really want to get the most out of each session, try not to do it where there are things that could be distracting. You want to be the most interesting thing in the environment and limit anything that will compete with your attention. You can use your puppies kibble or let your dog show you what it is most motivated for. Naturally anything you use should be of good quality and healthy for our dogs. Hope this was helpful! Thanks for watching and the feedback!

+Leslie Hamersley its for punishment based training with shock collars.,,,,awful
@Pmpdogtraining9 жыл бұрын
+shinethesky I am sorry shinethesky but you are mistaken in your views about my form/methods of training and use of remote collar training. Your choice of words, punishment and shock, clearly point out the lens in which you see things. The dogs and owners that have come into my life would disagree with you. Thank you for your feedback though. ;)
@shinethesky9 жыл бұрын
+pmpdogtraining My reply was to Leslie's question of what the remote was for. The remote cause the collar to deliver and electric shock, which is a punishment. This is a fact. It certainly hurts and certainly scares the dog. theses are facts. The "lens" in which I see this is focused with information from scientific medical and behavioral studies in the use of adverse training methods, ie shock collars. They have been proven to raise cortisol levels in the dogs they are used on (via shock, vibrate or tone) and can and do cause negative associations with the environment around the dog. These are facts. Countries around the world have banned them or are in the process of banning them. The Humane Society of the US states "The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) provides the following comment on the use of adverse collars (choke chains, pinch collars and shock collars): "Some trainers use adverse collars to train "difficult" dogs with correction or punishment. These collars rely on physical discomfort or even pain to teach the dog what not to do. They suppress the unwanted behavior but don't teach him what the proper one is. At best, they are unpleasant for your dog, and at worst, they may cause your dog to act aggressively and even bite you. Positive training methods should always be your first choice." They go on to comment on shock collars specifically: "The least humane and most controversial use of the shock collar is as a training device. The trainer can administer a shock to a dog at a distance through a remote control. There is a greater chance for abuse (delivery of shocks as punishment) or misuse (poor timing of shocks). Your dog also may associate the painful shock with people or other experiences, leading to fearful or aggressive behavior".[22]" A 2014 study - journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0102722 " The Welfare Consequences and Efficacy of Training Pet Dogs with Remote Electronic Training Collars in Comparison to Reward Based Training Jonathan J. Cooper , Nina Cracknell, Jessica Hardiman, Hannah Wright, Daniel Mills Published: September 3, 2014DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0102722 ConclusionsOur results indicate that the immediate effects of training with an e-collar give rise to behavioural signs of distress in pet dogs, particularly when used at high settings. Furthermore, whilst best practice as advocated by collar manufacturers mediates the behavioural and physiological indicators of poor welfare detected in the preliminary study, there are still behavioural differences that are consistent with a more negative experience for dogs trained with e-collars, although there was no evidence of physiological disturbance. E-collar training did not result in a substantially superior response to training in comparison to similarly experienced trainers who do not use e-collars to improve recall and control chasing behaviour. Accordingly, it seems that the routine use of e-collars even in accordance with best practice (as suggested by collar manufacturers) presents a risk to the well-being of pet dogs. The scale of this risk would be expected to be increased when practice falls outside of this ideal." Hopefully every dog owner that considers the use of these methods on their pets does the research.
@Pmpdogtraining8 жыл бұрын
my take away from this is - Its not the tool but the individual using the tool. In that case it doesn't matter whats used. Shitty training is shitty training regardless of approach. I try not to cheerlead for a particular side until I have immersed myself in that world and fully understand. This debate has been an ongoing and ever evolving argument with both ends proving success and failures. Again failures due to the individual handler and dog. Risk for the well beings of dogs is not limited to the use of ecollars. That has been true with all approaches imo. No dog or person should be placed in a box.

panzertoo It does lend itself well with the vest. Particularly with the Hurtta OB vest. I was browsing through other vests that don't have the same placement of rings and was thinking the same thing. Ive been feeling it out having it attached to the belt loop around the waist and its alright but paired with this vest specifically, it works well for me.
