Lisa Cortes It was a toss up for me as well but I decided to go with the OB vest. I think partly because it was a newer product and because of the slim fit design. Obviously I have no regrets whatsoever! Thank you for the feedback Lisa! Let me know what you decide on. =)

very helpful video thanks and has convinced me to get this vest. Just wondering what you use the remote for that you have hanging on your right side? Thanks!

+shinethesky I am sorry shinethesky but you are mistaken in your views about my form/methods of training and use of remote collar training. Your choice of words, punishment and shock, clearly point out the lens in which you see things. The dogs and owners that have come into my life would disagree with you. Thank you for your feedback though. ;)

+pmpdogtraining My reply was to Leslie's question of what the remote was for. The remote cause the collar to deliver and electric shock, which is a punishment. This is a fact. It certainly hurts and certainly scares the dog. theses are facts. The "lens" in which I see this is focused with information from scientific medical and behavioral studies in the use of adverse training methods, ie shock collars. They have been proven to raise cortisol levels in the dogs they are used on (via shock, vibrate or tone) and can and do cause negative associations with the environment around the dog. These are facts. Countries around the world have banned them or are in the process of banning them. The Humane Society of the US states "The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) provides the following comment on the use of adverse collars (choke chains, pinch collars and shock collars): "Some trainers use adverse collars to train "difficult" dogs with correction or punishment. These collars rely on physical discomfort or even pain to teach the dog what not to do. They suppress the unwanted behavior but don't teach him what the proper one is. At best, they are unpleasant for your dog, and at worst, they may cause your dog to act aggressively and even bite you. Positive training methods should always be your first choice." They go on to comment on shock collars specifically: "The least humane and most controversial use of the shock collar is as a training device. The trainer can administer a shock to a dog at a distance through a remote control. There is a greater chance for abuse (delivery of shocks as punishment) or misuse (poor timing of shocks). Your dog also may associate the painful shock with people or other experiences, leading to fearful or aggressive behavior".[22]" A 2014 study - journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0102722 " The Welfare Consequences and Efficacy of Training Pet Dogs with Remote Electronic Training Collars in Comparison to Reward Based Training Jonathan J. Cooper , Nina Cracknell, Jessica Hardiman, Hannah Wright, Daniel Mills Published: September 3, 2014DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0102722 ConclusionsOur results indicate that the immediate effects of training with an e-collar give rise to behavioural signs of distress in pet dogs, particularly when used at high settings. Furthermore, whilst best practice as advocated by collar manufacturers mediates the behavioural and physiological indicators of poor welfare detected in the preliminary study, there are still behavioural differences that are consistent with a more negative experience for dogs trained with e-collars, although there was no evidence of physiological disturbance. E-collar training did not result in a substantially superior response to training in comparison to similarly experienced trainers who do not use e-collars to improve recall and control chasing behaviour. Accordingly, it seems that the routine use of e-collars even in accordance with best practice (as suggested by collar manufacturers) presents a risk to the well-being of pet dogs. The scale of this risk would be expected to be increased when practice falls outside of this ideal." Hopefully every dog owner that considers the use of these methods on their pets does the research.

my take away from this is - Its not the tool but the individual using the tool. In that case it doesn't matter whats used. Shitty training is shitty training regardless of approach. I try not to cheerlead for a particular side until I have immersed myself in that world and fully understand. This debate has been an ongoing and ever evolving argument with both ends proving success and failures. Again failures due to the individual handler and dog. Risk for the well beings of dogs is not limited to the use of ecollars. That has been true with all approaches imo. No dog or person should be placed in a box.

Nice vid! Just a couple of points. Keep an eye on your "D" rings, probably be the first thing to fail. Refill your poop bag holder, then pull one out, drop that clicky thing in it, and properly dispose of it in the waste ;) , and finally, $3 worth of velcro, or fastex clips and you'd have a truly rockin vest. I use 5.11 Tactical vests for my dog trg now, loads of usefull pockets, just not waterproof.

pmpdogtraining Good stuff Chris, keep the vids coming when you get time. Always enjoy them! 5.11 is the brand and it was a dubbed by the original owner of the company. From wiki: "The name “5.11” comes from the highest rock climbing difficulty level that was listed in the Yosemite Decimal System at Yosemite National Park..."

I was about to get an abo on your channel because I love your engaging training. Now I just found out your using those e-collars too which is disappointing me, sorry but do you really need those? Keep up the good positive work and re-think those punishment methods. In Germany, where I grew up those things are forbidden - for a reason. Apart from that: the jacket is pretty cool!

+Aedony Thanks for the feedback. It would be a shame to say all that was good suddenly dissipates because of my use for e-collars. Although I can understand the argument you make - it simply is not the case. Thinking is what I constantly do when in comes to the approaches I take with each dog. Personally I feel it's the varied definitions we give to words that tend to steer our thoughts and conclusions. Long story short - There is always a balancing act in play when it comes to training. I try my best to show support of my claims based on the results of the owners and dogs that come to me for help. I should also mention with so many new, incompetent and reckless trainers out there influenced by TV or groups blinded by their agendas - this wouldn't be much of an issue. As with dogs the same goes for people - they cannot be labeled and placed in a box. I take my work with dogs very seriously due to my own personal experiences and just because I use prong collars and ecollars does not make me cruel. It is not the tool that is inhumane but the intent behind it and how and when it is used.

A tool that teaches through punishment is cruel. The tool was created to inflict an emotional response which is sparked by an unwanted behaviour. This is a punishment. Using such a tool teaches a dog that if they should do what you want them to do out of fear. The difference is this; do you want your dog to talk to heel because he finds it rewarding, or because the alternative is potential pain or discomfort. An owner may gain obedience with these tools, but I believe owners lose their trust and damage the bond. Just because a dog is highly obedient, it does not mean that they trust their owner and have a strong bond. They've been turned into a robot.
