There are videos comparing a unit being completely encircled in older games which caused it to rout, while a unit being completely encircled in rome 2 doesn't even suffer a noticeable drop in morale. In medieval 2 having an extra unit of peasants or militia could be handy even in an open field battle because you could chuck them into the side or rear of some engaged enemies to give them a morale shock, even if they're better quality troops. Of course this is a strategic gamble on whether or not the enemy would break before all your peasants got slaughtered or routed. But in rome 2, it's just a stats meatgrinder all the way until the end and even a fully encircled unit doesn't give a shit. When stats are all that matters, no wonder people are gonna recruit heavily favoring stats

I know this video is ancient, but did you know on the mission with the wooden horse, if you're able to get into troy and destroy the settlements, it actually automatically completes the next mission as well?

The game of my childhood. There's just not any other game that looks and feels like AoM. Also, did you know that the voice actor for Agamemnon also voiced Duncan in Dragon Age Origins, as well as many other cool characters? They really had an amazing cast of voice actors!

Does this also include base game battle for middle earth 2? I'm hoping this works because I have legitimately spent the last 8 years trying to get BFME2 without success. I've bought old CD's from people which didn't work. I bought an Xbox 360 just to play the base game (which is almost unplayable because of lag) and I've searched out dozens of websites where I can download it only for it to not work or it requires a really specific software which isn't available anymore. I didn't even realize rise of the witch king was an entirely new campaign. I genuinely hope the links you've left finally work.

"It looks like a mod." Except there's a mod that has all new animations and a favor system. It's called The Return of the Gods and adds the Aztecs. The Aztecs even speak Nahuatl, the only time I've ever heard them speak Nahuatl in a video game. Even in Age of Empires, it wasn't all Nahuatl. The mod is really good and feels like a proper DLC.

AOM was limited by computer capabilities. Having modded the game myself, i understand why they had to limit the scope of the game. I didn't play or buy the chinese market expansion. It was clearly a sale decision. those never produce anything good

49:28 is trying to be a Chinese temple, but they just re-use old objects like green tiles from Atlantis, Walls of Troy and white tiles from Olympus (that still has the cloud" painted on them). Let's just use these, nobody will notice, and it definitely doesn't look like a home made campaign at all.

AOM was my favourite game as a kid. I still love it and can’t wait for Retold. Never had the Chinese add on and I think that might’ve been for the better haha. The terrible fake Chinese accents of the voice actors and the atrocious name pronunciation 😭😭

Great thing of this game is a lil “і” button on a portrait of everything. I done my Biology class homework that way, just copying descriptions of different trees in this game like oak, pine, spruce, etc. that was at 2004, no wiki, mostly no internet overall, but there was AOM. ❤
