Ik was 15 toen deze film gemaakt werd , een jaar later ging ik werken bij v&d daar . 😀 daarna 4 jaar later naar Den Haag verhuisd .

Rotterdam ik ken dat nog wel maar ik ben nu 53 jaar oud wij gingen velen jaren laten naar mijn opa en daarna naar opa en oma in Rotterdam maar ik woon allang niet meer in Rotterdam maar ik was jaar 3 of 4 toen ging wij in 1973/74 verhuizen naar Noord-Brabant.

I saw this as part of a guest lecture by Martine Delfos, and it made me realize how these documentaries can come to conclusions that are not as black and white as you might imagine. The boys seem to make a mess of things, don't finish and argue, whereas the girls are a carful, patient and social group. Martine gave her insights and made us watch the footage with some other insights: the boys are not interested in making clay shapes, but they are focused on the material itself and quickly realize what they can do with it. They are gone because they know what the clay can do and are not interested in creating figurines. When they are "fighting" over the viewmaster they are on equal footing and all are engaging at the same level, whereas with the girls it's easy to miss that there is no equality, the girl in the pink shirt is the one who decides who gets to view it and the others follow her. She is in control of the viewmaster. This lecture by Martine made me much more critical of these gender documentaries and to really look for the context and underlying dynamics. One thing is not 'better' than the other, and this kind of documentary only emphasizes the stereotypes even further. So thanks Martine for your insights!
