Glad you showed us the cleans. So if the preamp is clean, the Sonicake cab ir also keeps it clean ? Or maybe some IR's add dirt ?
@PBOD2 күн бұрын
IRs only ever add a specific EQ to a signal, the drive itself has to come from a preamp. If you want to get a more driven tone, you'll have to use a preamp (or drive pedal) with a bit more gain. Hope this helps 👍

What’s the pedal order with just the recommended pedals in the video? I got a hot rod, angry orange, and had a ds 1 and metal zone in my collection. Tone x last as a cab for the hot rod deluxe?
@PBOD3 күн бұрын
I would go angry orange/metal zone (for fine tuning the eq gain)/Hot Rod / ToneX for cab IR This gives you the best of both worlds. Heavy gains, a cocked type wah sound and a traditional hot rodded plexi style sound. Scott.

Thanks for the video. I wired My ampless rig, with my origin effects revival drive acting as my amp, to have Hx One before or after revival drive. I follow the same page on the manual you were showing up in the video but it seems to do nothing. Maybe because OE revival drive doesn't have an efx loop? Am I wiring them wrong way? Thanks
@PBOD3 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching, you mention you set up per the video but it doesn’t seem to do anything. It would be good to understand if you mean that you get no sound or whether you mean that you don’t hear a difference. It would also be good to understand how you use the revival drive, mostly clean or mostly dirty? Do you use other gain pedals in front of it? If you use the revival drive clean without much dirt and get dirt from other pedals you may not notice a huge difference with wet effects going after the amp sim. You’ll most likely notice the difference more if you are running a lot of drive on the amp sim. Wet effects going into the front of a dirty amp can sound quite messy. It’s still quite a personal taste thing though.

Hello and thanks for this video. If I May, I have a question that’s only partly related, but you seem to know a good deal about this pedal: I want one, but I'm wondering about the looper. Since it is one effect, it makes sense that I cannot use it while I'm using another effect from the pedal at the same time, right ? Now is there some kind of cheat or workaround like injecting an effect on an overdub afterward, or using this kind of method shown in the video? Thanks a lot.
@PBOD6 күн бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching. Due to the nature of the pedal (1 effect at a time), I don’t think what you are trying to achieve is possible, when you have the pedal on the looper effect, there’s no way to bring in any other effect from the unit. I haven’t tried this but it might be possible to record a loop, leave it playing and switch to another effect but I would suspect that this won’t work, the HX one has limited DSP compared to its bigger brothers so I think all the cpu power is diverted to the given effect patch you are in.

This was my first pedal, bought twenty something years ago (second hand from a store that's been long outlived by the pedal, which I still have). Imagine you're a teenager that only has a cheap Cort electric with a cheap Squier 10W bedroom amp with a horrible farty fuzz type one setting drive. Then you get this pedal, and it can decently do AC/DC, it can do Guns N' Roses, it can do Nirvana, it can do Metallica even and other hi gain scooped tones. Hell, it could do Norwegian black metal if that's your thing. Talk about bang for your buck. I later on used it with some early digital multieffects cause it took affordable digital guitar modellers like further 10-15 years for the gain sounds to not sound like sandpaper. If people complain that it doesn't sound exactly like an SD-1 or a DS-1 then they should get those. Even after all those years I still like about the OS-2 that when wanting an overdrive sound, you can widen it with a splash of distortion, and when using distortion you can un-scoop it with a splash of overdrive.

Using the pedals amps with real amp will sound bad since you are using two amps and cabs? This is what I don’t like about these amp pedals
@PBOD9 күн бұрын
The HX One doesn’t have any amp sims in it, it’s only effects. You need to step up to the HX stomp for amp modelling. Amp models can be used with an amplifier but you typically need to have the signal bypassing the amps pre-amp by using the fx return on the amp and then turning off any cab simulation on the amp model. Lots of people use amp sims in this configuration with excellent results.

One of the best aspects of the HILS is the neck. With a little work it can be outstanding. 12-16” radius is perfect, the neck carve is also phenomenal. I bought it because I missed my Strandberg which I sold because the endurneck did not get along with my arthritis (the edges bumped me right where it hurts, which doesn’t happen with a smooth shape). The worst part is the bridge. A pain in the ass to change strings and the tuning ratio is darned low. Despite that, the guitar is now in constant use.

9:05 definitely subjective after playing warrior x body shapes for so long or when laying down I find myself wanting to play at almost 90 degrees lol I like with the hils version the body protects your leg from hitting the bottom of the floating bridge, really other than the neck I feel like the only thing better about the strandberg is the lil cavity for the jack input is cool but at least I can hang the hils one on a hanger :D

personally cant even consider a guitar without a trem, funnily I was searching for something light that I can lay back in a couch with, with a trem and 24 MEDIUM jumbo frets, its almost impossible to find anything other than jumbo frets on everything these days, the only option I could find was strandberg or steinberger, being as how I've never touched either I wasnt willing to spend thousands on something over the internet so I sprung for the cheaper steinberger but quickly realized the trem was nothing like the original trans trem and was so stiff it was basically useless for pantera style pinch dive bombs, after researching many videos I watched a video in korean (with the subtitles) and found out the hils guitars are designed or based on a korean make named hex guitars, this one is the middle version with a slightly more xpensive version with fishman pickups the version in the video here in korea runs for 350 usd and the fishman version 650 usd, anyways found a video with a trem torture test and he abused that thing even showing rhe block from the rear all the way up and all the way down and then another video he even disassembled the guitar, it has paint sheilding and a trimpot potentiometer you can adjust gain in the pickup. etc etc long story short I put in my preorder for metallic orange and I cant wait, they say january but no specific date

Ok, keyboard warrior here. Minor quibble, the DS-1 in the Keeley Angry Orange is not the Waza DS-1, it's the standard DS-1 from 78 (which sounds literally like almost every other DS-1 made).

I dunno. I see that there are differences, but honestly, not enough to justify the massive price difference, in my opinion. Then again, I have yet to get my hands on a strandberg, and I guess it's just one of those things you have to experience to understand. For now I'm fully satisfied with the Hils guitar and dont see much reason to drop 2k on a guitar.
@PBOD18 күн бұрын
And that will be the same experience for a lot of people. Having both guitars, I can confidently say the Strandberg is the one I want to play the most but the difference certainly isn't $2000 worth

I'm getting back into guitar playing after several years and want something I can use without disturbing my family at night. Tonex seems like a great mix of features for the price. I'm waiting for Black Friday sales to see if there will be any deals on Tonex, Tonex One, and/or Tonex Max. I'd rather get into their ecosystem than buy individual plug-ins from other companies. The FX are absolutely appreciated. Still, if they added a block for a drive pedal capture (along with Midi on/off for it) that feeds into the amp capture, that would give them even more over the competition.

Great video, thanks for comparing the two! I was considering the Hils one and there aren't many reviews of it yet. One small stone to through though. The way you place your thumb on the Strandberg is against the whole concept of the EndurNeck and what Ola fought for :D The idea is that your thumb should be pushing against the middle part of the 3 flat surfaces of the back of the neck and going up and down the fretboard it guides your palm position. Now you use the so called banana finger :D
