Great vid Budge, loved the Cliffy Byro song :D. Another cool one is Wah after drive instead of the 'normal' before, you can get a much more extreme sounding wah effect that way. No prizes for guessing which guitarist I got that trick from :D.

This is another reason why I stick with Fractal Audio. Not only are they the gold standard of digital amp modeling, but specifically - component-level circuit modeling - they also continue to improve their product line with almost monthly free firmware updates. Endless improvements always striving for perfection. Besides, I don't like the idea of a "profile". I'd take a Line 6 over a Kemper, as a model is more elastic, leaves room for parameter movement and natural sound. At the end of the day, the Kemper is just a glorified IR player. That's really all it does, it captures a snapshot with all parameters set in stone. If you profile a JTM45 with the Presence knob at 6, there it is stuck within the profile. You can tweak the EQ to your heart's content, but that's not actually modeling. Furthermore, a bad profile is always going to be a bad profile. Considering the high quality hardware and unrivaled firmware, the Axe FX 3 and the FM9 are worth every penny.
@PBOD
@PBOD 4 күн бұрын
I don’t know if the Profiliers have this tech, but as most amp companies seem to keep their tone stacks similar through their amps, and there really aren’t that many amps on the market, if should be possible to choose the tone stack which suits your profile
@realtruenorth
@realtruenorth Күн бұрын
Kemper has liquid profiling now, so you have all the knobs like the original amp responding as the OG amp would/does. I think Kemper has the most authentic real amp tones, but I'll take Eventide for best effects. Facial bests neither for those 2 categories, but Fractal is probably >90% there in one box, so there is that. I still play real amps for the best possible room tone.

Not a kemper owner but how are the "upgrades" (unlocks) handled? are they by an account? if I upgrade the firmware, is there something that needs to "phone home" to confirm the upgrades? This quickly turns into non transferable upgrades if you buy second hand and ever want to apply and update, or if the librarian/ act of plugin it in requires an account.

updates (like with the firmware) are FREE. Upgrades as in adding new functionality requires a paid upgraded. This was also announced since day one, so I don't understand why everyone is so shocked.
@frjhracing

@@arjanhurkmans9190 the question is for the upgrade. When I do the free firmware update, does it also phone home or check an account when looking at the paid upgrade status of the device. Example - I paid to upgrade and then later sold the device as "fully upgraded", later on the new new owner plugs it in to update. The question is, when the new owner plugs in, does the process to update firmware or access patch settings require an account? If it DOES does that mean it will see the new owner account hasn't bought the upgrade? Will it derate the upgrade? Do you see how this is a real concern? This is how all other SAAS/ DLC works. It's tied to an account.

Putting aside the paid/free update argument, I think from a price point argument its even worse. With the level 3 upgrade puts the Kemper Player at around $1000, which is now in competition with the FM3, Helix LT, Boss GT-1000. All way more capable devices. And now puts basically every other 3 footswitch multi-fx hundreds of dollars cheaper. I really wanted to support Kemper, if the Upgrade was like 30 bucks I wouldn't have been happy but I would be more okay with it.
@PBOD

Line 6 has multiple lines of pedals and while they share alot of the algorithms the processing power varies between them all. The HX one can only do 1 and the next line up can do more but not as much as the next and so on. They cannot release an update to make one processe more then the next. What Kemper has done is make a product purposefully crippled and are offering a service to "unlock" its full potential. Thats like buying a car and having to buy an add on to be able to turn the wheel after the fact. If they would have just baked this cost into the initial launch no one would have batted an eye.

The one other reason not to buy a Strandberg is because it employs a zero fret before the nut. Since the strings constantly contact the zero fret it is inevitable that it will develop grooves in it and need to be replaced. The only exception to that is the recent Essential model that has no zero fret for that exact reason. Also, if you want to level the frets with a fret file the zero fret is in the way and will probably need to be removed.

I’m not sure what the beef is here tbh. The Quad is £1300 and no one is complaining. The full package for the Kemper player with the £300 comes to £900 altogether. The modular nature is similar to the IK multimedia business model. Only difference is they tell you from the outset. Now don’t get me wrong. I think as a company they suck. I’ve been using Virus since the C and they have always been assholes. Just this time it seems pretty straightforward. You get what you pay for. Do t like it. Don’t buy it

It's the fact they purposely crippled the pedal and are selling you a "fix" to "unlock" it's full potential. The quad cortex has its flaws such as making its big promises at launch about plugin integration and just now getting to it. If they would have baked the "upgraded" price into the launch product then noone would be complaining. But they purposely sold a nerfed product. They're selling a solution to a problem they caused essentially
@doofusm
@doofusm 6 күн бұрын
No. This is a feature upgrade not a bug fix. I’m sure bug fixes will be free. Think of it like this. OS updates (bug fixes) free. Additional software (what we are talking about) chargeable. This is the same as buying Photoshop or Cubase for your PC. The only thing Lee is getting upset about is the fact that unlike say Eventide, who did this the entire duration of the H9’s lifecycle, Kemper weren’t upfront about it. I say… you still have the exact same product with the exact same features that you bought… only now you have the option to turn it into the big boy product. Rejoice… options are good!!!

Thank you, unfortunately we don’t have the EQD pedal in the team but if we ever get our hands on one we’ll check it out. However, I know from personal experience that their Aurelius chorus added latency when you used it in the full vibrato mode, I made a video about the pedal on my own channel (@JasonWharton82) and I think it’s down to the way they achieve the vibrato effect, taking out the dry signal from the chorus sound and leaving the pitch modulated and slightly delayed wet sound, I could be wrong and they may be applying a different approach on the aqueduct though.

It's just a pity that they messed up the ins and outs. So when you choose true bypass, it'll take the whole preamp out of the circuit instead of just the pedal. It should have been guitar -> left in -> left out -> amp in -> amp send -> right in -> right out -> amp return, because true bypass will short left in/out and right in/out. The way it's actually wired, it will now connect the guitar to the amp fx return. It still works with AD/DA bypass, but I hope they offer the obviously better wiring in a software update as an alternative option.
