Cool video man, hope you’re well. It is very cool being able to get a compact amp solution like toneXone but like you, I prefer the big brother for functions & midi. I’m experimenting with 2 in stereo atm, great fun!

Thank you! I don’t mind mini pedals but for this the small form factor just doesn’t work for me. I know others love it though, the price for the features you get is amazing really.

It’s great that we have options in the Tonex range to suit most people!

Great video. I'm staying with full size unit, simply because of the dedicated buttons display. It's just a little easier to tweak a few things (especially the reverb and depth) then the small one. Also I actually do like to tinker around with quite a few presets so it's nice to have them whenever I want to have them. The Tonex One is a bargain though. A 3rd gen model with delays and modulation would sell like crazy!

Can’t go wrong with either but for me, I like the extra functionality of the big unit.

Thank you! They were all stock amps that come preloaded on the unit, in the playing section you’ll see the preset names on the little pedal cam which again are all stock pre-sets, I tweaked the pre-set to my liking but didn’t change amp or cab.

Question: you bought a used big Tonex.. how does that work with the license for the tones? Did that transfer easily from the previous owner to you?

My only take on the ToneX is that, if I was a high gain type of guy, it would be the go-to. But for using my existing pedal board into a simulator, the UA Dream 65 is the one.

@@PBOD yes i agree. However, for a guy like me that’s used to using a pair of Fenders or Two Rocks, it’s a bit overkill when the Dream 65 can deliver stereo blackface. I had the big ToneX and found it was brilliant for high gain tones but less so if you want to modify those. So… find the presets you like, download them, and you’re good to go. Modifying those… less so. Not knocking it at all, and may still buy the diddy one for backup. Nice video, good points, well presented.

Thank you, my non modelling set up is a deluxe reverb although, I guess technically it is a modelling amp since (😱) it’s a tonemaster (😱) so I can absolutely get by with that sound. I had the dream ‘65 myself for a while, great pedal.

@@PBOD our needs are probably different. For live gigs I play a pair of handwired Princetons or a pair of Two Rock combos for larger venues. However when I’m in the orchestra pit and it’s a silent environment, I’ve found the Dream 65 will let me use my stage pedal board straight to FOH. I’m an old git so I can’t get my head around Helix, QC etc.

I was going to go with the one to run with my hx stomp xl. It’s difficult to run two amps in the stomp without using up most of the dsp. The fact that you can have two amps in the tonex one was exactly what I was looking for but not having midi capabilities was a deal breaker. Idk why they wouldn’t just make it a little bigger to add midi. Either way once I got the full size pedal I was glad. The tonex software is terrible and I would’ve gone mad trying to adjust everything on the tonex one.
@PBOD
@PBOD 4 ай бұрын
I’ve found the software pretty usable myself but I can understand where you are coming from. I do wonder if we’ll see a sort of in between pedal in the future.

aren't you dropping from a stereo capable pedal to mono in and therefore dual mono out by running out to the Tonex?
@williamphillips24
@williamphillips24 4 ай бұрын
The lack of midi control killed the idea for me. If they'd done the pedal in a 125b size, they probably could have included a bunch more features, like a second footswitch and midi.
@PBOD
@PBOD 4 ай бұрын
It’s a features balancing act I suppose, clearly they were targeting getting the modelling tech into the smallest package possible. I wonder if they will bridge the gap with another pedal in the future?

@@PBOD That would make sense when you look at all the features Neunaber were able to fit into the Neuron. Ok, it's not an AI pedal, but cab sim, midi, compressor, gate, 24 presets and two multi function footswitches... The only downside was that it had a really high noisefloor when the gain was high and the compressor running hard (the gate was on the slow side too). But yeah, I'd love to see what they can do in a 125b/1590bb/NS footprint.

Interesting, I have been looking at the Tonex one pedal and your review makes it questionable. To use a midi controller would my main beef otherwise it is quite expensive relatively. I have an FA Axe FX III for the studio, Mooer Prime P1 with 8 preset bluetooth switch pedal all with good software and lots of choices. So what I really want is probably the Mooer s1 which you program the 8 presets and use your phone or iPad with the software to tweak things. With ToneX you need a Mac or Windows machine and therefore I delete it straight away. To make ToneX one interesting the sw needs to be IOS and Android for sure. This is where Boss is and I think superior. If you need capture that is a whole different topic as these are capture players only. 😁😁

I keep considering dipping my toes in this world but..... Even with the bigger version the lack of ins and outs seems really limiting. I have a lot of stereo pedals and rack gear that, to me would be rendered useless. I know it's not the intended market.

when are they going make one that can power a 4x12 cab @ tube head levels? its always some guy with these things who has no drummer seems like your gonna need a head anyway is you want to jam, and if I'm just in a room playing low volume cheap stereo practice amps sound this good now anyway so I'm not getting why I would drop the coin on something like this when theres full on modelers with efx for close to the price.

Probably not the target audience for these products to be honest but it would be cool to see something similar to the Victory amp pedals only the preamp part is all modelling and then they have a power amp in their to drive a cab.
