I see the Southern Baptist Convention starting to struggle with some of the issues that the United Methodist went through. The one big plus that SBC churches have over UMC churches, is that the SBC does not own any of the churches.

There are local licensed pastors who have a degree in a discipline other than a MDiv. Also, many of them at least have an undergrad degree; they're not all just uneducated.

And well you should have left. God will not bless any church that embraces and promotes things He has called an Abomination. The UMC has strayed from the Gospel and the Law. By doing so, they ask Christ to leave and have become a cult! I retired before they completely destroyed themselves!

"False teachers who craftily and industriously hunt for precious life, devouring men by their falsehoods, are as dangerous and detestable as evening wolves. Darkness is their element; deceit is their character; destruction is their end. They pose the greatest threat to our safety when they wear the sheep's skin. Blessed is he who is kept from them, for thousands become the prey of grievous wolves that enter within the fold of the church." - Charles Spurgeon

Love your heart Brother, I left denom. churchianity and did house/small/organic church for 14 years after pastoring for the C&MA for 20 out of seminary. Now retired but not really and working with a congregation in urban Florida who are walking away from the RCA. They will still be independent and have 2 tent making shepherds. I spent 17 years as a counselor for Goodwill stores in my area as well. God bless your role in the Kingdom!

Why are you going bald? The reason I ask is you are teaching about the history of your denomination and your association with it; and the hopes of true Godly spirituality!!! But you are indoors, and for some inexplicable reason you are wearing a hat!!! Why??? Is the divine light of your new preaching so brightened by divine light that you must shelter your head from the light and the heat!!! This new custom of wearing hats indoors I find curious. Part of the good culture we have in America is the idea of good manners. But bad parts of the culture we as Christians have inhereted is the idea of worldly culture telling the church-or more appropriately the Body Of Christ- telling the church how to 'govern' itself. In my observation the modern or contemporary church is plagued by the disease of 'perpetual babyhood'.!!! Many pastors I don't believe have a calling from God, but are rather hired by a group. Wether or not these leaders develop into the biblical 'hireling' depends on the attitude of the individual. If God can succeed in converting the leader to practice God's practices, plan and program then we have a strong growing body , with the people discovering their own diversity of individual personal spiritual gifts, and ministering to their fellow church goers. The body gets knit together in a strong flexible love that is attractive and not repulsive. I enjoyed the discoveries you have shared - learned by giving the long needed funeral for the bricks and mortar mentality of what has grown into the infamous mega churches.

This is going on with our church. UMC requires us to pay $50,000 by September 30 2024 to leave. We barely have enough each month to pay the pastor, the pianist and pay the power and water bill. UMC has made it has difficult as possible. UMC has decided to follow what man wants instead of what the Bible teaches.😢
@GodsWordisTruth-zg1jj4 ай бұрын
Pay the pastor? This is what is wrong with so many churches that they like to mimic the world. One should never be paid a salary for preaching the good news. Freely did they receive they should freely give. Its rules like these that have slowly chipped away the truth of the Bible and the result is that people get greedy like the UMC asking for a fee do be part of their group, etc. A concept never heard of in the Bible. There are so many concepts that have been accepted it is nauseating. People need to let go of these churches and just follow Christ with NO denominational affiliation whatsoever.

Actually we should rejoice that they left a false church. Unless they are saying that they are rejecting the Bible or God we should not assume this to be negative. It's time more people left this wicked group as well as many other groups that put the world before Scripture.

I was raised in the Presbyterian church. By the time that church got around to voting in sin and depravity it had been entrenched in reality for a long time. The Methodists are pretty much the same. They have had open gay clergy and gay marriage for a very long time. The vote was no shock to me at all.

The progressive churches are just making crap up and deciding what they want to believe at this point. I am Episcopal. I got called out and put down by my Priest for insisting that Mary was/is a virgin. When I quoted the Bible, the Nicene Creed, and several of the early church fathers my Priest yelled: you do not have a right to an opinion until you go to seminary. I am not so concerned about a little conservative or liberal leaning. More and more "Christians" are just throwing out the Bible and long established doctrine for whatever. And that is what I am taking umbridge with. And it seems to be in the Mainline Denominations that have gone super progressive that are doing this. Personally, I am sick of being laughed at and am looking into other denominations.

I just watched the video on KZbin about this congregation leaving the UMC 3 years ago. Today is June 8th 2024. I was intrigued by the events as they were unfolded by the Pastor. I was taken back in my life with the UMC in western New York back in the late 80s. My friend and I wrestled with the Dist. Superintendent and Bishop for the same reasons of apportionments and unable to do any missions work, barely able to meet monthly expenses. On Jan 31st, 1990, after a vote was taken to Continue to pay apportionments levied by the Dist., my wife and I and my friend and his wife left that local UMC. We are now in Mesa, AZ and members of the Gateway Fellowship SBC in Gilbert,AZ. The Devil has been persistent in his attack on the UMC and has succeeded in part. BUT KNOW THIS... GOD will prevail in the Hearts of True Believers as HE has in the life of your congregation and church. God Bless you ALL. Ed Greene ([email protected]) 585-721-0099

Been there. Our church - a small congregation in a large building, in a small town, had several meetings to determine whether or not to stay with the UMC. One of the meetings involved the Dist Super., who told us how much money it would cost us to leave. Way more than we could afford. The church, and the property it sits on, are fairly valuable in money considerations. The congregation voted..and I was very surprised when they voted to stay with the UMC. I struggled with that outcome for a while, (still do), but even though I love my church family..I left. The UMC made it all about money. That, to me, is a "worldly" decision instead of what I think a church ought to be. I wish the UMC well, I'm gone.

I was in an independent nondenom church. The building was slated for demolition because of highway construction. The state offered a buyout package; very generous, especially since it was an older, dogeared facility. Leaving out tons of details, the semi-retired founding pastor got it in his head that the congregation owed him a tithe of the buyout money. Our board of elders politely said no, that we needed the funds to start over; so he filed suit against the board. Instead of fighting, our congregation decided to let him have the property. We picked up lock, stock and folding chairs and found a rental facility with which to start over. We literally had folding chairs, an old cranky sound system, plus instruments owned by the musicians themselves and not much else. The founding pastor watched attendance dwindle from 350-400 to less than a dozen in the space of two weeks. Meanwhile, the congregation pulled together, found a permanent facility and continues to prosper.

There is no one who say there are Christ like person. She never compromise the message of God to his son Jesus Christ, our Lord.

I could always tell when one of our pastors came out of Duke. They were very liberal. Lately they began to slip in the gay agenda in our bible study. Most members didn't see it. Now the UMC has gone off the deep end. I was waiting and hoping that it would go away... but it has reached and crossed the final line. I am very sad that finding a new church away from Methodists is overwhelming at my age. Giving up my precious sunday school class will be depressing.

District Superintendents. Book of Discipline. All the talk of money. While maybe it's unfortunate to some that this has happened to the Methodist church, it's not wholly unexpected. You can't pretend to be surprised when you walk hand in hand with the world that your church eventually becomes the word. You people made this happen. You chose the doctrines of men over the word. You chose to structure your church like the world instead of by the scriptures. Now you're paying the price. The Southern Baptists are next.
