Aox, your advice has helped me grow healthy lithops and I share your video anytime someone is asking how to pot them up. Question though, how far back can roots be trimmed before there is no hope? I’ve gotten some that were trimmed before I got them and are suuuper short. Still not rooted after months.

Lovely video. I have a Lapidaria Margaretae plant coming in the mail this week. In one of your Lithops video, you moisten the soil before inserting the bare root plant. Does the same logic apply with Lapidaria? Thank you.

You keep them on the fridge only at night?
@AoxTheGardener6 ай бұрын
That's correct! Whenever doing cold treatment, only at night, to get the temp swing from day to night as extreme as possible. We want them to warm up during the day! It's the temp swing that's doing a lot of the work for us, not just the cold.
@noemiegm60316 ай бұрын
But mine are kept inside, I don't know if that changes anything about doing the cold treatment

I’m unable to find timeline information on a harvesting seed pods..I have lithops that bloomed in October and the seed ball is big with dried petals attached. When should I harvest them? The pods appear succulent-like instead of dried and assume they are still maturing?? Please advise.

@CactusQuest Hell yeah dude, hopefully so, the flowers should die off quickly if it took. The make tiny friggin capsules so definitely hit everyone. I’m lookin at one solitary flower out of my bunch so far so this year is lookin poor for opticas, but I’m sitting on so much seed now it’s ridiculous. Until I get my next real world job sorted to pay for all of this I’m a bit in limbo with forward progress in the nursery side of things.

I know it's a common practice in lithops cultivation and you seem very successful with them but why not just let them grow a taproot like they would in the wild?
@AoxTheGardener10 ай бұрын
I do let them grow a taproot! I just force them to grow a new one in my substrate. When the root of lithops is very woody, you need to give them a trim to initiate that new root development process.
@BTiffney7110 ай бұрын
@@AoxTheGardener Ooh I wrongly thought the taproot couldnt regrow or that it should be pruned during every repotting. Thanks for the answer!

How long after treating with a systemic should a plant be kept indoors before moving outside? I don't want to harm bees or butterflies. But I also don't want to let the mealy bugs destroy my plants.
@AoxTheGardener11 ай бұрын
Good question! It's only something to worry about when they're flowering, and I avoid applying after summer, through fall, and I will apply after flowering in fall if the weather permits, and in spring. It takes about three months to work through the plant, as far as I'm aware.
