I got the same rims for my ‘87 d100. I seen your video how have the spacers been holding up? I can’t find hub centric spacers for mine so I’m going with the spacers you got just going 1 1/2

I can’t really answer how they have been holding up because I have yet to drive the truck. Long story. But I have used lug centric spacers on other cars without an issue. If I were to do it over again I would go with 1 1/2” on the front and 2” on the rear. Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

If you just pop the studs out and mill a 1/6 off of the hub with a brake lathe, you can fit most any wheels you want on this truck. I will be posting videos soon.

I just bought a 84 ' Dodge Ram D150. Went to Discount tires and their system says it takes 5x5 bolt pattern. The computer system is wrong. The 84' model bolt pattern is 5x114.3 I hope that helps.
@CarlsonsCustoms
@CarlsonsCustoms 2 жыл бұрын
Hey John, that's interesting...and confusing LOL. For some reason I thought '86 was when Dodge went from the 5x4.5" (5x114.3) to the 5x5.5" (5x139.7). Which would make your remark correct. However, I just looked at a couple of websites and they show it happened in '81 which would match with the body style update. I think Tom Damon might have summed it up best when he said Dodge did unusual things back in the day. Anybody else know for sure???

I ran into a similar problem with hub diameter trying to mount 16" Dodge wheels onto my mid 80s F150. Aluminum wheels are easy to machine. I've done it at home with a straight cut router bit. Steel wheels aren't so easy. A machine shop can do it with a boring bit, but it wouldn't be cheap. Spacers are the way to go, but another option could be too turn down the hub diameter. The rear axle isn't always a problem. But that doesn't take care of back spacing problems.

FYI, Dodge did some unusual things with their wheel/tire combo's back in the day . different series trucks (d150, w150 , d250 , w250 ) all had different wheel/tires . Event in the same series there could be differences depending on weight capacity . Example : towing or camper or plow packages . I , however , am not a fan of wheel adapters . In your case it seem doable . Good luck !

I remember from an earlier vid that you measured from fender back to axle center on the truck chassis (like 22 1/2"?). Curious what dimension you ended up with once the cab mounted? Is the axle center farther aft in the fender? How much farther? Thanks. Keep up the great work!
@CarlsonsCustoms
@CarlsonsCustoms 5 жыл бұрын
Hello neilskiw Sorry for the delay. I will have to measure it again because I cant remember, but I think the front wheel is slightly aft in the fender. However, if I were to move the cab back in order to move the fender back, the radiator support (and all the hoses, etc) will need to be moved back too. Not worth it in my opinion. Once you add on all the sheet metal and everything else that adds weight hence lowering the front, the wheel placement looks pretty close to center.

Just wanted to say you made a great video series, and a sweet looking truck! I’m tearing down an 07 Crown Vic right now, and I’m at the wiring point and having some problems. I thinned down the harness and removed the power seat wiring, power windows, mirrors, etc. Now, I plugged the harness back in, and the engine will crank, but not fire, and the check engine light will blink. Computer doesn’t show any codes though.... Just wondering if you removed the Lighting Control Module and the Restraints Control Module from your harness? I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I’m sure it’s something simple, I probably clipped one too many wires somewhere. Thanks!
@CarlsonsCustoms

Thanks for the kind words Mooosman. Good luck with your project! The situation you are in right now is always my greatest fear when dealing with modern cars electronics. I'm glad you mentioned the Lighting Control Module because I think that may be your culprit. I remember having the same no start / flashing CEL. I plugged the LCM in and it fired back up. I thought it was a fluke because I found it odd that a lighting system would be the smoking cannon. Restraint control module...that doesn't ring a bell, sorry. I hope you have the same result. Please let me know what happens and if I can help more.

Hay everyone, you CAN EASILY use a hole saw without a pilot bit. First get a piece of 3/4 plywood. Drill it out as usual. Mount it above the metal, or wood or whatever, where you want it and the wood creates the guide.

Hey Eric...Have enjoyed all your videos to date, on your build....And you've given me ideas on what to plan on,, as well as what I'll need to try and modify for my future build.... I have been planing on doing a Chassis swap as you have done but with a '73-'79 F-100 swb... I know these Truck cabs are deeper from firewall to backwall for more legroom.. and I'm hoping it'll close up the Gap between the cab back and bed front... The only thing I know I'll be doing differently from your design is,, I want my Bed Floor to be flat,, just like from the factory... So going by what you did,, it looks like I'm going to have to raise the whole body higher off the frame at all mounting points... Congrat's on everything thats been going on there....Post more when you can...

Hi Moe, Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad that my videos have helped you plan your own build. Honestly that was my intention from the beginning. I know I watched some vids and loved what they did, so I put the idea in my pocket. I saw others that made me cringe, and I stashed that image in my "what not to do" container. Hopefully my vids aren't in the latter! Lol As far as your bed dilemma goes, you really need to pick what's most important to you. The CV/GM rear suspension is quite good with its 4-link & watts link. Add in the four wheel disk brakes and EFI fuel system intact and it was an easy decision for me to sacrifice the bed floor. If I did want to keep the bed intact (which would be nice), I would probably just put the CV/GM front suspension on the Effie frame and then get an aftermarket 4-Link system to get the rear end down and handling better. Good luck with your build! Maybe you'll be the guy that comes up with the best of both worlds and have a bunch of us saying "why didn't I think of that" lol
