I switched to open-handed playing about 12 years ago after having played the traditional style for the previous 25 years. I now lead with my left hand with the hats and ride to my left. After several years of having my kit like Bobby Jarzombek's, I switched to the Mike Mangini symmetrical style. It makes the sonic possibilities limitless.

Been listening to DMB since the 90s and next to Neil Peart no one touches the command he calls for when he kicks in and starts to pound!! Favorite drummer of all time and never get tired of taking in his chops!!

I have often wondered if there would be any benefit, for a budding open handed drummer, in watching vision of long term drummer in Muddy Waters' band, Willy "Big Eyes" Smith. He was either left-handed and right footed or completely ambidextrous, but whichever it was, he got the job done!

No disrespect to this withering cover...no cover can approach the mind the piece actually came from, lest we forget...covers are covers...not even in the same galaxy as the original no matter how note for note...

Amusing and fun video....but.....I HAVE a baby kick drum, that IS not much different in size than a typical floor tom. Sound wise, another killer sounding alternative is a jambe. Just got to rig the pedal to suit. I like the sound of a cajon, but I CANNOT stand playing it as a kick with my heel, so it cannot double as my seat.

It was just too gnarly for people to deal with I guess.

Dude, you are really good (and funny). Me and my kids were cracking up! We're kind of all getting into drums now. I got them a little kids five piece and I kinda practice on it, too, since I always wanted a drum set. Carter is epic. How do you drum open hand if you're right handed? Are you right or left handed? Carter is left handed.

If you don't have an agent, a good manager, a good band and music you'll be lucky to make any real money. Most do it for the love of doing it. Yea, Promises come more than money. Especially if you are based in Nashville. And no matter how much you make, we all have a pair of Converse. lol

I have played with the hi hat on the right since I started playing the drums in the 80's. Mainly due to the fact that I didn't know how to set up a drum set. I'm right handed, play the hats with right foot ,and kick with my left foot. Still roll left to right on the toms.

That's cool, just the out of focus camera left me wondering of my glasses were the right strength.. I've been at it for about 10 years.. I wish someone had said earlier there were no rules..!!
