Yea yea, good for her and all that, but when she stops, that arthritis and osteoporosis is going to be horrendous. It’s pointless because there’s no reason for her, at her age, to put her body through this abuse.

2 miles could easily be 25-30 minutes of non stop running for an average person. He’s right it can be a lot. Work up to it. Don’t give up

How would you recommend you start? I’m 24 used to be an athlete , haven’t played sport for 3 years and lost all fitness and motivation

Start with walking give it 2-3 weeks until you start jogging again. Do short sprints(no longer than 10 seconds). for every 45 seconds of walking. It's a slow process of getting your knees back up to speed, the main thing here is to prevent injury. And ditch the motivation, it'll only hinder you. Do it because you need to, not because you want to. Being fit is more about discipline than motivation, it definitely does help, though.

Here's what I did - started running again after being hospitalized with a clogged up artery. Started at 103 kg (1.83m). Began with 3 km on an elliptical machine for about a month. Transitioned to 3km light jogging, very slowly. Maybe for another few weeks. Went up to 5 km, then 7, then 10. But I almost always take a break and do one day on the elliptical between those 10k runs. Already lost 10 kg with that strategy. And I try to listen to my body. If it's hurting, I use the elliptical. If all feels fine, I go for a run. I don't try to get faster though, just try to increase distance. And work on form. I started transitioning to shoes with less cushioning and less drop. That made the slight knee pain go away completely but all needs to be done really slowly.

it’s okay to round your back a little bit, but just as long as you’re leaning forward at the catch. your torso should hang from 11:00-1:00
