great video ,very different to how I learned to use it in pencak silat, almost every strike was a kill, good to have some less deadly options.

Is Sumbrada mid range ?
@evadetheblade55

Yes, sumbrada can be done in mid range. However, it's more practical, functional, and real in training when it is done in close-quarter range. Great question!

Yeah man. I think I prefer your style. I was watching some other people do their thing... and it’s like... ...the guy was dead a while ago... The guys saying “If he is still standing...” .... I’m sat there like. Bro. You just cut his throat 3 times and hit 3 other major arteries... and they are 100% never using that limb again. There is no way he is getting up. No way. The blood loss from when you literally went to town with the first two cuts... This is just desecration of a corpse now, if they are still upright. 👊 respect. ✌️

That’s well interesting. Going through the flow. Like everything just becomes the opposite, almost. I am seeing the symmetry anyway. The hooks/traps become cuts and the cuts become hooks depending on whether the assailant is striking you with the left or the right. Inconsequential as first and foremost. We first move out of the path or the inside. To the outside, response with our hands, empty or otherwise. Loving this. Great video dude 👊 stay dangerous. (Inconsequential in terms of, what’s a little nick with a blades edge while trapping the thing coming at you. I guess in terms of your own safety. If that makes any sense.) I find the trapping and the rotation? Manipulation? of the blade to redirect the attack. + tendon termination genius. I like your style. Defence and an attack simultaneously. 👌

Good night, i am a martial arts student, tour tecnic whit the kerambit it is one of the Best i saw on video. My question is: How do you fight against another Blade, i asume it is not the same against another kerambit than another kind of knife like a k-bar, could you be so kind to show something like that. Thanks for your time, God bless you.
@evadetheblade55

Hello Luis! Thank you for the question. It is the same against another blade attacker. However, it can be VERY different against another attacker who holds a Karambit. Movements are similar, but the strategy and tactics do change. God bless... be safe, be careful, and be ready.

The concept of staying away from more critical cuts to the torso is the same mindset of a person defending themselves with a gun only shooting at the limbs of their attacker. If I’m using deadly force it’s because I’m facing an imminent deadly force threat. My intent is never to kill the person, my intent is to stop the threat immediately so I have to target areas that will be more likely to stop the threat as they appear first. Just because you’re targeting the limbs (wrist) doesn’t mean the person can’t bleed out and die as a result therefore you will still have the same legal consequences just as you would if you cut his throat and those actions weren’t justified. If the concept of targeting the limbs is for the sport of the art then I understand but if it’s for surviving a deadly force self defense encounter then I think that mindset will get you killed in the real world! So you won’t have to worry about any legal consequences only would you like to be buried or cremated!

Truth is knife attacks are scary things and most of the time you’ll be snuck up on and stabbed and there’s nothing you can do to defend from being snuck up on and stabbed (you’re fucked) but if you’re in a verbal altercation or a fight and it escalates to a knife fight or the aggressor has a weapon (bat, pipe, club, knife) then that’s when you can utilize training and defense systems… NONE of these defense systems of avoiding and blocking blade attacks work 100% of the time you’re going to get cut you’re going to get hurt and trying to pull one of these defense systems off might just get you killed but what matters is that you are alive and the other person either isn’t or is no longer trying to harm you, and almost all of the time if someone is charging you with a knife full force full speed with the intent to kill you you aren’t going to be blocking and pushing their hand away like this, it’s very possible and can be done but you’ll most likely be sustaining many injuries in doing so.

I appreciate ur goal sir is just to dis able the opponent. Yeah, I've seen the other instructors of karambit that they want to kill a person. I think, that's illegal or has just over reacting about the situation. I agree that the main goal is just for self defense and not to kill the other aggressor.

RIP. 🙏 I met his long time colleagues from back in the late 70s to early 80s within couple of blocks of walking distance of me. They used to quietly practice in the park, even right before COVID 19 and I immediately recognized the sumbradas from a distance and went to befriend them. That's when I learned of Guro's ailing health condition before his passing as well as the passing of another former instructor of mine Guro Eddie Hunt RIP 🙏 . I got goosebumps first time I met them because I didn't even realize that the older soft spoken gentlemen right in front of me was once the very young guy that I used to see practicing in Guro Allands many wild & crazy video promotions in the background. Sadly, I no longer see them at all, have tried multiple times to reach out to em but no response since beginning of COVID 19. Time is flying so fast, sometimes difficult to process, so many legends are now no longer with us.

Hello Donnie. Thank you for sharing this experience with me. Yes Mas Guru Greg Allen will truly be missed very much. There is not a day where I do not think of him and his training as I train my students. Every skill and knowledge of the Filipino martial arts is always shared with my students as it was shared with me from him. My condolences to your teacher Guru Hunt. Yes the Legends are slowly fading away. However they will never be forgotten because we pass on what they have passed on to us. Thank you again for sharing this post with me. Be safe and take care 24/7/365.
