YOU ARE MESSING UP TELLING PEOPLE IT WILL RUN ON EV for the first 140 miles. IT DONT.............. the gas generator motor runs at all times.
@MikeSmith-lx9jg
@MikeSmith-lx9jg 22 сағат бұрын
ITs usless because your NOT saving any GAS. The gas motor charging the battery always runs and always is using gas. Why not make it so it drives on just EV for 140 miles meaning you can drive 70 miles away from home drive back home 70 miles and use NO gas put it on your home charger and then recharge battery with cheap home electricity NOT USING ANY GAS. BUT still have the ability to use the gas motor on longer trips pulling a trailer or boat. RAM screwed up making it so the truck never uses battery ONLY.

I think its less about ev and more general product stagnation. Old charger and challenger are dead, and hadn't really changed in like 12 years. Just kept adding power. Pacifica is 7 years old. Dodge dart is dead. Dodge hornet is over priced. I'd argue that all jeep products apply a " it's a jeep" adder, making them uncompetitive when Mazda, Honda, Kia are making similar cuvs.

Sad that everything has to be politicized. EVs are just another tool at our disposal. They work best for most use cases, but not all. Plugin hybrids also have a niche to fill, but given their complexity most people should skip them. I think most people will be ready to move to full EV quickly after adopting PHEV and it's a shame they can't make that leap without wasting the time and money on the hybrid. But human psychology is a strange thing.

We absolutely love our plug in hybrid. 1,000 miles to a tank average for commuting and no limits on road trips. Eventually EV infrastructure will replace the need for plugins but it's still a long way off

Mating a Engine to a transmission which shifts introduces a lot of stress on the engines components, increases wear on crankshaft bearings and cylinders. Mating a engine to a generator - increases is lifespan by 3-4X, so that engine should essentially never wear out.
@ROMRreviews
@ROMRreviews 3 күн бұрын
Dunno about "never" but it should dramatically increase longevity for numerous reasons. Ram's real challenge will be power management, battery life, electronics.

@@ROMRreviews the average daily distance driven in a day is about 50 miles. So that will be fully electric 90%+ of the year - so we are looking at running the generator 20-50x a year for those longer trips and towing. (all averages - I know some people are using trucks different) compare this with daily driving - where the engine runs about 300-350x a year. So you are going to use the engine less by giant factor plus in a less taxing way. Sure there will be issues with the electronics - especially in the first year or two. Just saying - the engine should be not the limiting factor of the trucks life anymore - which it is these days.

I have the Chrysler PHEV Pacifica, I regularly get +60mpg most of the year. In the Upstate NY winters the engine runs more to warm the cabin. If my commute was shorter (+60 miles round trip) the mileage would be even higher. We love it, it’s perfect for our needs. I agree the press does not understand the market. Only Toyota (I guess Stellantis too) seems to get it.

I think the auto industry pundits don't understand that most of us are only going to have one vehicle and a PHEV let's us have an EV daily driver that can also travel across county and tow your trailer. I've also been interested in the electrified trailers put out by Bowlus and being developed by Airstream and Pebble. With the tough travel trailer market since Covid, i wonder if the big RV makers are willing to invest $10,000 a trailer in electric propulsion.

Welcome to episode 005. This one was a bit of a mess 😂, multiple recordings that didn't play too nice with editing software and took away to long to complete. Let's see if you can find our errors!

Look forward to it pulling my overland trailer and go camping with it in the foothills of the Rockies here and having access to available power when needed instead of a generator

I don't think it's just a luxury car thing. How much of a difference is there between a fully loaded Camry and the ES350. Does a $1,200 iPhone work that much differently than a good $600 competitor (putting aside OS). Differentiation will probably come down to design and experience both in and out of the car. Thanks for the thoughtful discussion. Cheers.

How about a 1939 Yellow Coach? The manufacturer was an offshoot of Yellow Cab that was bought by GM some time in the early 1940s. We used it as a camper; we bought it from its previous owners, Bill Haley and the Comets. Yes, the legendary Rock 'N' Roll Band! We never met any members of the band. We bought it through their manager, in 1960. I drove it in 1965, a year after I got my driver's license. It was a beast to drive: all shifts had to be double-clutched. No power steering. Powered by a Detroit Diesel 6-71. Acceleration 0-60 took about 2-1/2 minutes! Fuel consumption was 6-8 mpg on the highway, down to 2-3 gallons/mile in the mountains.

The issue you had with the first unit has been occurring a LOT. A user on Reddit dug into it and found that the thermistors are failing. The issue is that the $1 parts are buried in the unit and are not serviceable. It's likely that all units will fail this way with no good or easy repair possible. I'd 100% wait for a generation 2 with serviceable thermistors (like the Dometics have) or just get a cheap fridge and a Ecoflow River 2. Cheaper anyway and likely just as functional and you get LiFe type batteries. This sucks because it's a good size and has the right feature set and the price (at the currently reduced sales price) is reasonable. But if it's just going to fail, which I suspect nearly all of them will until they address the hardware issue, this can't be recommended.

I had the issue and had to return it. If you don't have this fridge, not a bad idea to wait. If you got the space for Anker 55 liter, that things is huge compared to this, I'd say go with that since it includes the battery wheels and lever/table for less than this fridge. The only issue is size. I still prefer this one because of the flexibility and size.

Even when your dash says zero percent you are NOT out of electric motor drive. You always have a minimum of 15% battery to assist the engine. It’s like a Prius at this point and stays that way until you charge again. It’s a very complicated and complex system that most don’t understand properly and I think if Jeep made it more known then sales would increase on the 4xe.
