Can you reuse the wax? Would something like this be a good way to make low volume fiberglass parts? By “low volume” I mean between 1 and 20. Speed wouldn’t be a major issue; the goal is minimal labor input.
@shopbottoolsАй бұрын
Yes! The scrap material from cutting, including the chips made while cutting, can be melted down and reformed into blocks for the next job. Not exactly sure how you are using fiberglass, but if you have a specific need and would like to know if a ShopBot CNC machine is the right choice for you, we can help you figure that out. please call 888680-4466 or email [email protected] - Thanks!!

Hi John. This video is just an example of how to use the moulding tool path in Vectric VCarve to re-create moulding using a ShopBot CNC machine. There are no claims of this method being better than another, however, if you have access to a precise CNC machine like a ShopBot, recreating moulding is a straight forward process. This file was posted from Autodesk Fusion 360 by one of our customers for their machine. I really like the strategy of milling with the bit tilted at a 45 degree angle for those last cuts to prevent the piece from lifting off the vacuum jig.

Good video. Too bad there was no specific info on bits used.
@shopbottools4 ай бұрын
It's been a bit since this video was recorded -- but going through the cuts it looks like we've got a 1/2" straight flute for clearing out the majority of the material in the pocket, followed by a 1/8" straight flute for the corners. Then we switch to a 90 deg V-Bit (1/2 cutter diameter) for the V-Carving toolpath. The cutout at the end is done with a 3/8 Compression (up-down cut) bit.

For this specific cut, the saw is not really necessary -- that width of kerf and speed of cut would be achievable with an end mill. However, the customer that we are working with is interested in making deeper cuts with a narrow kerf -- that wouldn't be possible with a typical end mill -- but will be easy for the chip saw to achieve.
