I REALLY appreciate your video! I’m Protestant and begin my OCIA classes next week. Catholicism has tugged at my heart for many, many years….and I bought my Bible back in 2019! Your video was spot on as to how I want to mark in my Bible. I love what little bit I’ve read and now with your perspective I’m super excited to dig in.

I know this is a late comment to an older video but I want to say that this review, as well as the many comments that are against the translation and notes, actually convinced me to purchase a copy. I'm not one who believes every word must be literally taken or seen as "inerrant" and the "liberal" or historic notes are actually a big plus for me as they show things from a more critical perspective rather than a faith first perspective

I really wish they would make a premium version of this bible.

I just got this 80 dollars in 2024 with shipping. I bought the index tabs as well. Absolute a pain to try to put them on do not recommend. I like the Bible and have read some of it every day the tabs are useless.

You lost me on the clunky NAB. There is a reason that the majority of Catholic seminaries still use the revised standard version.

The good thing about new words is that we can look them up and then we know what they mean. Learning new words doesn't just have to be for children.

All the "leathersoft" bibles I've gotten are immitation leather, including from this publisher, and are advertised as such even on amazon. I've had several start crumbling after just 4 or 5 years. In my experience, bonded leather bibles last much longer. It's a pity as many of these bibles only come in immitation leather "leathersoft/trutone etc" and the design on many is otherwise very nice. It's also disturbing that so many "bible publishers" advertise with misleading names like "alpha cowhide" etc.

I understand that printing in color is expensive, but this just doesn't feel like a 60 dollar bible, more like a 40 dollar bible. What I am most disappointed about though, is that there isn't a premium edition with a top-grain leather binding. It's kind of hypocritical too, as Jeff Cavins himself believes a Bible should have a nice leather binding

I bought this Bible for my mother for Christmas to try and help her see the correlation between the early church and my stance on Catholicism, but without giving her an outright Catholic Bible

I'll consider if they release a new edition when NAB fixes the New Testament (last I heard a new, and hopefully faithful, revision to the NT is supposed to be released in 2025). Their time spent revising the NAB would have been better spent unbreaking the NT and Psalms than revising the entire OT while leaving the NT in ruins. I'm glad they fixed issues with inclusive language in the 1991 Psalms obscuring messianic typology ("son of man" replaced with "human being" for example), but there were always bigger fish to fry: The first best time to nix the 1986 NT revision was 1986 (preferably sometime before publishing), and the second best time is now. I'm blessed to have a NAB 1970 edition (basically the complete confraternity edition OT worked on through the 40s-60s with a new NT translation to match the style they adopted after Divino afflante spiritu) which is the only NAB I will ever recommend until they release another where NT no longer contains notes openly hostile to the faith. (Notes on Matt 16, for example, claim that Jesus didn't know about his passion before hand. A steel man argument might have said that they merely meant the specific form in Matthew was developed or glossed, but this defense is shown to be spurious by following this stunning claim with another that it's merely "probable Jesus may have anticipated his ministry would involve suffering and perhaps death, while hoping to eventually be vindicated in some way by God". Paraphrased from memory, but that's substantially accurate.)

About the ribbons.. use a lighter on the ends.. just hit the end briefly to kinda melt the edge.. that’ll stop the fraying

Well, I have the Great Adventure Bible that I use as my daily Bible and use the Didache Bible as my study Bible reading the footnotes from the Didache Bible.

Does this have good commentary in the Book of revelation? Like who the 144,000 are and the fall of Babylon, etc

This is basically a Baptist bible, which it has little about baptism. The ancient church fathers writings are seen through Reformation/Baptist eyes. This is a fundamentalist Anabaptist bible. IMO, this is not a useful bible for Catholics. The Didache Bible has extensive references in the bible and to the Catechism of the Catholic Church is superb.

I am reading The Great Adventure Bible & The Catechism of the Catholic both by Jeff Calvin’s (Asention Press) and love it. Find both interesting amd hooked. Although I should be journaling/ note taking I don’t. But I would do my notes 🗒️ on a seperate notebook 📒 because when I write something it takes up more than margin space. This a nice Bible and love the idea of note taking in the Bible itself. 22:48

I overall think the nrsv is a good bible translation

As for the ribbons fraying, in the sewing section of walmart or any craft store, look for frayblock. It comes in a tube. I use it all the time when I'm sewing something. It's great.

I got mine a couple of months ago. Love the size and zipper. Print is tiny, but I’m able to read. switched out the miraculous medal for a blessed one.

The black Bible she is showing, Oxford Large Print, has very thin paper and ghosting is very distracting. I would go with the Ignatius Bible if no pages are missing.

"Caveat Emptor!" This Study Bible lacks the Deuterocanonical Books which the Fathers of the Church quoted time and again. The contributors to the Ancient Faith Study Bible cherry-pick the Fathers to support their Protestant doctrine. For example, the Fathers wrote plenty on Eucharistic Sacrifice of the Mass, the Marian Dogmas and the Primacy of Peter as the First Pope not to mention about Regenerational Baptism and the other Sacraments, but you will look in vain for serious discussions of these topics in tbe Ancient Faith Study Bible. "Buyer Beware!"

I got the GIANT TYPE catholic book publishing bible, it's hardcover and good for those who want larger font.

I'm waiting on the first two in the series. Coming in July. You are right, Catholic Bibles rarely seem to have the premium covers and bindings that the Protestant Bible have available. I seem to be drawn more to the commentary provided in Study Bibles of late. This series is just what I want to dig through.

Please get some help in making these videos. When you try to show us something, you don't hold the book at a decent viewable angle. At least this video showed the bible upright. the one you did on the LARGE PRINT RSV-CE had the bible at a 90-degree angle from the viewer.
