I am a new subscriber to your channel. I am enjoying your reviews. Keep up the good work. P.S. I ended up buying the "Great Adventure" bible of Jeff Cavins from Ascension Press based solely on your review! I was not planning to do so. I have received it and am happy with it.

I have found some of the "heavier" writing makes me 1)slow down and 2)read passages more than once. For me, when I read easily digestible writing, I tend not to give it the time and focus it might deserve. Although it is a fine line between the two styles. I'm anxious to get a copy in my hands. Your sincere reviews are very much appreciated. I'm glad you shared your thoughts after spending some time reading. I'm praying for you! :)

I hope more quality Bibles are published by Catholic publishers in the coming years. The Protestants have beaten the Catholics and the Orthodox in premium Bible publishing, and sadly their Bibles dont contain the apocrypha except for rare volumes. That should change. Appreciate the your channel. God bless

I just purchased the set of the Gospels & Acts,Letters, Apocalypse. I'm the person who starts to read the Bible and then has so many questions that I just end up leaving it for awhile. When I saw this Bible, with the commentaries, sermons, church father writings and if course all the beautiful art I knew this was perfect for me. So far it hasn't disappointed. My young children love how beautiful the gilding is and enjoy looking at the artwork inside. I know this will be a perfect edition for homeschooling also. :) Blessings to you!

The good thing about new words is that we can look them up and then we know what they mean. Learning new words doesn't just have to be for children.

I think when Bishop Barron used the term "evangelize", he also meant non Catholic Christians who love reading Bible and have some knowledge in scriptures... For ex the word "concupiscence" , "Supersubstantial Bread (our Father)" , "Transubstantiation" etc are used because it reflects more closely to the Word of God as to how it was written and also reflects our rich Tradition... I believe every non catholic who reads will explore it and know the fullness of the Catholic faith.

I will say I think the Ancient Faith Study Bible is a great product with a lot of great commentary that is a great resource for all Christians. It's large but very easy to read both in the text size & font and in the CSB translation. 😊 It's also got a lot of great details in it's design.

It's a beautiful Gospel. I do agree that the problem with having theologians write this kind of book is that they use words that they think are "normal", but the majority of people don't understand. The Bishop should have had a few laypeople that are not academically trained review the book and point out the confusing bits. In any case, great review!

Great review thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about the bible. I have to say I thought about getting one... but...but I'm still not sure. I may hold off until they create the whole bible. I don't much space on my bookshelf 😀😉

I can definitely understand that! I bet the paperback takes up less space 😉 and I'm NOT just saying that because I'd love to see your review on it 😙🎶 The whole Bible won't be out for a while, but the rest of the NT will be out June 2021! A NT set would be awesome to have.

@@catholicbiblereviews5581 oh noooo I'm not a fan of paperback or hardbacks they both feel like a school textbook or a book from the library I believe the bible is to be held at a higher level than that... personally. But...but that's just my opinion.

It's interesting to hear that Americans talk about "reading levels", something you don't hear in other English speaking countries.

I enjoyed your review. I have this Bible in leather. It is a beautiful editions of the Bible...a work of art. I agree that some of the language used is geared to the highly educated...particularly those having background in theology. It is a little frustrating when you just want to sit down and pray with the bible, but have to have a dictionary at your side to look up the terminology he uses.

I have really loved reading this bible. It is beautiful. The presentation is stunning, and really draws you in. Looking forward to reading through each of the volumes as they come out. But what I really wanted the most was the commentary from contemporary and ancient writers. And it bums me out a *little* that it is mostly commentary from Bishop Barron, and less so from others. I would have preferred the balance being tilted more the other direction (though I do enjoy Bishop Barron's commentary, but I've been listening to him for years now so I have usually heard something similar to what he writes - it's more interesting when they pull a piece from Chesterton or Augustine, which I may have even read before but not in that context). I got the hardcover version (because I just do not feel right purchasing most animal products these days due to how animals are treated in modern industrial commercial agriculture), and it is really nicely bound with nice paper. I expect it to hold up really well and remain beautiful to display on my bookshelf for years to come.

The cover design and artwork grabs the attention of the viewer. I am a Bible Collector, and probably would have snapped this right up, except for the fact that it is just the four gospels. Would prefer the entire Bible at once instead of in pieces. Does not mean I won't change mind. 🤓🌴 Honest and excellent Review!

I agree. But it’s time to raise your level of understanding in order to understand God’s word. Get a dictionary (other sources). It’s worth the effort. This publication is not a cure all. It’s a only one tool. Not for an Audience but a tool that should enlighten you to approach others. For some it will be journey to reach this level of intellect. It took time and sacrifice to appreciate his theological interpretation, but worth the effort and divine intervention to access his Godly wisdom
@catholicbiblereviews55814 жыл бұрын
I agree...my father once said "If it's going over your head, raise your head up higher!" I just wanted to make sure people knew that just because it's pitched as a Bible for people who haven't read the Bible before doesn't mean its a good fit for EVERY first time Bible reader. If someone is easily frustrated or struggles with pausing to look up words, there may be better options for them.

Your comments come off quite offensive. How "well educated" do you have to be??
@catholicbiblereviews55814 жыл бұрын
I didn't mean to offend with my phrasing, but the truth is that the writing in the commentary is at a higher reading level than is typically found in most "introductory" Bibles. They pitched it as a Bible for first time Bible readers, but that doesn't mean it's suitable, for example, for a fifth grader who's never been to church before. It's for individuals who can read high school level writing and not be intimidated by new or difficult vocabulary. I apologize for the offense o caused, I hope this better explains what I intended.
@civrn3683 жыл бұрын
Give me a break already with being offended, and to the author why are you apologizing? It is obvious you did not say anything hurt full or say it with malice, but some people like to be offended all the time for attention and no good reason. Not everyone is at the same reading level and It's ok to say so. English is not my first language so I am happy she mentioned reading level.
