I was just reading an article about how cacti are carbon scrubbers <3 when they die they don't decay the same as other plants, and the carbon they captured becomes calcite -this is one of the articles i looked at pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16453105/ this makes me want to have more of a yard like yours!

Cut your rainbow cactus to a viable healthy tissue and let it callous over for about a week. Plant it damp soil after the week do not water for a week after the week water well and it should make new roots. I live in texas we have javelina too

Sandy stilts puffer mushroom, something like that for the common name. i can't remember the scientific name, and i could honestly be wong. There aren't many mushrooms that grow in and around the desert, but i think thats what you had. 😊

Hey! I hope you’ve been doing well as heck. And thank you!! Hahaha I’m definitely going to give them a run for their money 😂. Maybe they’ll sponsor me one day lol I love that place. And omg yes. The javelina are driving me crazy. I had to chase like 30 away the other day. They go bananas for the bird seed. It’s been making me refill the feeders a bit less.

Have you considered planting moringa trees? They grow rapidly in Arizona. They will provide ample shade as they mature, and their leaves are considered a superfood.

Nice borrowed landscape you got! Tough choice on removing the dead wood on that tree because mammillaria really do love their nursery trees. I'd say you should probably just remove all the dead wood, relocate the mammillaria, and put something that can handle a bit more direct, hot sun. My inherited opuntia macrodasys does not seem to like to grow upward... When I got it, it had just begun etiolating because its previous owner had it inside, so that might be my problem... but I'm just going to let it ride and see if they act like little kickstands. They also don't seem to enjoy... wind 🤣

In Arizona definitely! Sometimes they don’t even need cover but if it gets below freezing you’ll definitely want to cover them with like you said a bucket or frost cloth. A lot of the variety that fo well here don’t really need it though. It’s the ones from Africa and other places that you have to worry about.

Hello! Yes, lots of space for plants. I can’t wait to turn this place into an oasis. There isn’t really a problem with water. I’ve trained my cacti to be able to wait 2 weeks before being watered in the summer and in the winter season, they don’t need to be watered. To water them though, I use water from a giant rain barrel that filled up over the summer. Thank you for your comment. Hope all is well! -Alexander

@paulbaird205

I don't know what constitutes a "high-clearance" vehicle, but I have had many cars up there. A mustang, Camry, Lincoln, etc. The last 12 miles are rough dirt road. Always has been. It is completely possible to drive a normal car all the way to the lake without striking the bottom of your car on rocks. I once took a 18 foot travel trailer up there. Never again. It rattled the thing so bad. All the cabinets and drawers shook open and there was stuff everywhere.

As of July 2023 the dirt road is so bad it tore up my utility trailer with canoes on top. Only made 5 miles and had to turn around after driving all the way from Tempe. Another couple had the same thing, tearing up a camp trailer. There should be standards for road surfaces and the state and forest service should be held responsible for maintaining to those standards.
@alexanderrestucci3604
@alexanderrestucci3604 Жыл бұрын
Wow. I do not love that for you. That is very unfortunate and I’m sorry about your time wasted and your trailer. The road is super bad. I agree they need to fix them regularly to be more smooth. I saw graders when I was up there so what gives?? Maybe it’s too rocky. There should be a standard kept. The road has probably gotten worse due to the monsoons they’ve been getting over there too. :(

That road shook the light bulbs out of my trailer lights also. I had to drive home with no lights on the trailer.
@alexanderrestucci3604
@alexanderrestucci3604 Жыл бұрын
@@650gringo it’s a shame that that happened to you. Honestly they’ve been getting crazy monsoons this summer so far. They had graders there when I went camping there and they honestly really missed the timing completely to grade the roads. Come back to Mount Graham and the lake in the future though! Sacred mountain indeed!
@TM-ul8ce
@TM-ul8ce Жыл бұрын
Do you think it would still be bad?
@alexanderrestucci3604
@alexanderrestucci3604 Жыл бұрын
@@TM-ul8ce hey! It may still be bad due to how many monsoons they’ve gotten and the fact that Arizona takes literally forever to do anything. So they probably haven’t graded a single inch of that dirt road at the top! But if you have a bigger vehicle with higher clearance and good tires it should be okay!

@alexanderrestucci3604

Technically yes, but I don’t know if I would due to how cold it is. The lake sits at roughly 9,000ft making it a colder climate zone to that of the Canadian Rockies. Also, watch out for fishhooks if swimming cause it’s a well-known fishing spot! Thanks. -Alex
