Honestly, hats of to teachers who have the guts to get down to earth with the basics; this triggers inventivity and creativity, instead of hanging on high Art Ideals

I love listening to these Barry Harris workshops. It seems to make more sense studying the language of bebop than various scales, but I'm not much of a musician myself. Hearing a bunch of musicians playing these bits is awesome. I'll never hear the language broken down anywhere else.

Nice piece, Sir. Tov me'od! I wish I knew Hebrew better. I know the Aaronic Blessing, Shema, blessings over the wine and the bread and have heard Torah portions read quite a bit. But, I'm lacking in converrtional Hebrew.

I had more fun playing bass in a trad band than I did playing tenor in a straight ahead quartet because the repertoire is so good. After all, Donna Lee is fit over the Back Home Again In Indiana chassis.

I looked this woman up and genuinely stunned that she didn't have a Wikipedia page... Why is she not world famous? This is virtuosity on the level of greats like Hiromi etc (albeit in a different way)

Yes, she is a very fine pianist, coming from a solid classical background but making it very good in a jazz / gospel / contemporary field. Big talent indeed

Prove me wrong: all the kids playing the lines with mistakes and at different tempos sounds like an Art Ensemble of Chicago album.
@AlecKatz6 ай бұрын
It is a workshop, not a concert. They are picking up the lines by ear and learning things on the fly. It does not mean to be perfect at the beginning.

Watching this reminded me of the time I spent with David Baker at Indiana University during a Jamey Abersold summer workshop. David would sit at the piano and work us for 90 minutes nonstop. It was hard work keeping up but what an impact he had on all of us. Dr. Barry Harris is just as inspirational and intense, what a talent!

the C dominant 7th scale is a major scale with a flat 7th, i.e.: c, d, e, f, g, a, b flat
